Notes: Publishing history: This paper was published as Warwick Business School Research Paper No. 42 (ISSN 0265-5976) in January 1992. With revisions and additions it was published as Cause, Effect, Efficiency and Soft Systems Models in Journal of the Operational Research Society (1993) 44 (4), pp 149-168.

In order to avoid any possibility of global copyright infringement one of the figures has been changed before upload to Wikisource. This has also required some very minor changes in the text.

In the Introduction section, O.R. is mentioned. Does this refer to Wikipedia:Operations research?

More or less, Operations Research is the term used in the USA while Operational Research is the term used in the UK. Some however, would argue that Operational Research has a wider scope. Soft Systems is part of Soft OR, and Soft OR is not well known in the USA. Thanks for your interest.--Logicalgregory (talk) 07:25, 18 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
