Widespread uncertainty seems to exist about the number and identity of John Ramsay's wives. I believe that he had only two wives. The first was Janet Kennedy, 1480-1543, whom he married on 6 November 1505; the second was Isobel Livingston, 1490-1552, whom he married in about February 1507, and with whom he had at least one son, William, 1510-1569. Also, the comment that he died in 1513 appears to gloss over the fact that he was killed in action at the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.

Alan Ramsay, Adelaide, Australia

Thank you for the comment. The updated version in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography also has him marrying Isabel Cant in 1484. This article here is a copy of the old DNB, text, and not an encyclopedia article as such. The Wikipedia article at w:John Ramsay, 1st Lord Bothwell can be amended in the light of reliable sources; the text here is reference material.
