బ ba, The thirty-eighth letter, and twenty third consonant, in the Telugu alphabet.

బంక banka, s. Gum, glue. 2. Mux, or issue, of matter, adj. Viscous, glutinous, sticky. 2. Figuratively, stingy. నెత్తురుబంక netturubanka, The bloody flux. బంకమన్ను bankamannu, s. Clay. lit. Glutinous earth. బంకలుసాగు bankalusagu, v. n. To be gummy, or sticky. బంగరు, బంగారము, బంగారు bangaru, bangaramu, bangaru, s. Gold. adj. Golden. బంగారునీరు bangaruniru, Gold leaf. lit. Gold water. బంగారుపూత bangaraputa, s. Gilding. బంగారుకడ్డి bangarukaddi, An ingot of gold. బంగారురేకులు bangarurekulu, Plates, or flat pieces, of gold.

బంగారుతీగెలు bangarutigelu, s* A species of pady. lit. Gold-vines.

బంగి bangi, s. The bang, or ganjali, plant ; a species of hemp, Canabis sativa.

బంటి banti, adv. As high as ; up to. It is applied with relation to depth only ; as మొలబంటినీరు molabantiniru, Water, as high as the waist.

బంటు bantu, s. A hero, or warrior. 2. A loot soldier. 3. A peon ; the lowest civil officer. 4. At chess, a pawn. బంటుతనము bantutanamu, s. Heroism, bravery.

బంట్రౌతు banirautu, s. A trooper or horse soldier ; but now generally applied to a peon, vide బంటు bantu, No. 3.

బండ banda, s. A vock or vast stone. 2. A pestle without a ferrule, adj, Worn out. 2. Opprobrious, obscene- 3. Cruel. బండవాండ్లు bandavandlu, s. A certain class of people, who beg with a stone in their hands ; threatening to beat themselves, with it, if alms are not given.

బండరువు baucjaruvu, s. A bag of money.

బండవలము, బండాలము bandavalamu, banclalamn, s. Stock, capital, funds, money. 2. The true extent of one's property, or ability.

బండారుపిచ్చుక bandarupitstsuka, s. A gallinule.

బండి bandi, s. Any wheeled conveyance ; a carriage, a cart, &c. 2. A wheel. బండిమొగ్గరము bandimoggaramu, An army arranged in. the form of a wheel. బండియిఱుసు bandiyirrusu, s. An axle-tree. బండిరిక్క bandirikka, *, The fourth of the lunar mansions, from it's form, like a cart, or wain. బండికల్లు bandikallu, The wheel of any conveyance. Stone wheels are common in many parts of India.

బంతి banti, s. A ball made of flowers, or cloth.

బంతీ banti, s. A row, line, or rank. ఎడబంతి eiabanti, A string, or row, of bullocks.

బందము bandamu, s. A cord, or rope, used to tie together the two legs of any animal, to prevent it's escape. 2. The rope used by the drawers of toddy, to keep their feet together, in climbing high palm trees.

బందలము bandalamu, s* A pot, with a wide mouth.

బంది bandi, s. Imprisonment, confinement. 2. A captive. బందికాడు bandikadu, s. One of a gang of robbers. 2. A prisoner, or captive* బందిపోటు bandipotu, 8. An incursion of robbers.

బందు bandu, s. A hinge. 2. A spe- cies of bird. 3. Restraint, confinement. 4. Stopping, terminating, concluding.

బందుకట్టు bandukattu, s. Conspiracy, league, cabal, plot? plan, scheme. బందుకట్టుకొను bandukattukonu, v n. To conspire, cabal, form a party, or be leagued together.

బందుగుడు bandugudu, s. vide బంధువు bandhuvu.

బందె bande, s. Imprisonment, confinement. 2. A fine for a trespass by cattle.

బందోబస్తు banclobastu, s. Arrangement, settlement, regulation, management.

బంధకము bandhakamu, s. Binding, confinement. 2. Engagement. 3. Servitude. సంసారబంధకము samsarabandhakamn, The yoke of marriage.

బంధన bandhana,s. Paste, gum, glue; any thing sticky, adj. Viscous, glutinous.

బంధనము bandhanamu, s- Binding, tying, imprisoning, confining.

బంధము bandhamu, s, A binding, tie' or fetter. బంధించు bandhintsu, v. a. To tie, bind, or tighten, v. n, To be bound, or stopped, as urine, &c.

బంధుడు bandhudu, s> vide బంధువు bandhuvu.

బంధువు, బంధువుడు bandhuvu, bandhu vuclu, s. A kinsman, or relation ; but especially a distant or cognate kinsman, and subsequent in right of inheritance to the Sahotara. బంధుత్వము bandhutwamu, Belationship, affinity.

బకదారి bakadari,s.A dove, or pigeon.

బక్క bakka, adj. Thin, lean, meagre.

బగ్గి baggi, s. Ashes, dust.

బగ్గుండీ baggundi, s. A red powder, which the Hindoos throw at each other, during the Holi feast.

బచ్చు, బచ్చువాడు batstsu, batstsuvadu, 8. A banker, money-changer, or shroff.

బచ్చెన bachchena,s. Paint, cpldxir.adj. Painted. బచ్చెనబొమ్మ bachclienabomma, A painted doll, or puppet.

బజంత్రీలు bajantrilu, ,v. flu. Musical instruments. 2. Musicians. బజాఱు badzarru, s. A range of shops; a bazaar.

బజీతి, బజీతు bajiti, bajitu, s. vide ఫజీతి phajiti.

బజ్జి bajji, s. A dish made of brinjal, the eg& plant, or solanum melongena.

బటానీలు bataniln, s. plu. Peas, Pisum sativum.

బటాసాలు batasalu, s. plu. A sort of baked cake.

బటువు batuvu, adj. Round, circular, spherical, s. A circle, or sphere. 2. A plain gold hoop ring.

బట్ట batta, s- Cloth. 2. Clothes, adj. Bald. బట్టావు battavu, A cow spotted white.

బట్టబయిలు battabayilu, s. An open plain ; a champaign country, ac?;. Clear, open, evident. బట్టబయిలవు battabayilavu, v. n. To be dis- covered, or disclosed.

బట్టు-బట్టువాడు, బట్రాజు battu-battuvadu, batradzu, s. A bard; a chaunter of praise, and titles.

బట్టుగాడు battugadu, s. The bird termed, in India, the myna.

బడబానలము, బడబాముఖము badabanalamu, badabamukbamu, s. Submarine fire. 2- A being consisting of flame, but with a mare's head, sprung from the thighs of Oorva, and who was received by the ocean.

బడలు, బడలుపడు badalu, badalupadu, v.a.To be fatigued, tired, wearied, or harassed. బడలిక badalika, s. Fatigue, tiresomeness. బడలించుbadaiintsu, v. a. To fatigue, &c. బడలికదీర్చుకొనుbadalikadirtsuko- nu, To rest one's self.

బడాయి, బడాయీ badayi, badayf, 5. Pride, arrogance, ostentation.

బడి badi, 8. A school, ady. As much ? used in composition only; thus. ఇబ్బడి ibbadi, Twice as much. ముబ్బడి mubbadi, Thrice as much.

బడితె, బడియ badite, badiya, s. A large thick stick.

బడిబడి badibadi, acZu. Repeatedly; one after another.

బడియు badiyu, v. a- To perform any r ceremony, in order to obviate, or prevent, bad effects from an evil eye. This is done generally, by mixing turmerick and fine lime in water, placing the whole in an open vessel, and moving it, with a circular motion, all over the head and body.

బణ్నము bannamu, s. A heap, or quantity, of new brass pots.

బతిమాలు batimalu, v. a. To pray, supplicate, beg, or importune.

బతుకు batuku, v. til To live, or subsist, viae బ్రతుకు bratuku, s. Subsistence, mode of life, trade, or profession. బత్తళిక battalika, s, A quiver.

బత్తుడు battudu, s. A worshipper, a servant.

బత్తెము battemu, 5. Batta, a daily al. lowance in money, or food, for subsistence.

బదనామి, బదలామి badanami, badal£mi, 5. Infamy, disgrace. 2. Blame, defamation.

బదులు badulu, 5. Exchange, substitution, stead, lieu, retaliation, adj. Substituted, exchanged. 2. Other. adv. In lieu ; In exchange. బదులువుత్తరము baduluvuttaramu, A verbal or written answer. బదులుమాట badulumata, A verbal reply. 2. A contradiction- బదలాయించు, బదిలించు badalayintsu, badilintsu, v. a. To change, exchange, or substitute.

బద్ద badda, s. A slit, split, or opening. 2. Apiece, or slice. 3. Split pulse.4. Split wood. బద్దలవు baddalavu, To be broken to pieces.

బద్దకము baddakamu, s. Laziness, indolence.

బద్దించు baddintsu, v. a. To re-measure.

బద్దు, బద్దుర baddu, baddura, s. A lie, or falsehood, ac?/. False-

బద్దె badde, 5. The end, or selvage, of a web.

బద్రము badrama, .5. ficfe s. భద్రము bhadramu,

బన్నము bannamu, *. Interruption prevention. 2. Fraud. 3. Disgrace, dishonor. 4. Evil, misfortune, bad treatment.

బన్నసరము bannasaramu, s. A necklace, of coral and gold beads, alternately.

బమ్మరిల్లు bammarillu, v. n. To be confused, or confounded.

బయిట bayita, adv. This is the inflected irregular ablative oi బయిలు bayiiu, q. v.. And it deuotes-Out, outside, abroad. బయిటవుండు bayitavundu, lit. To be out- To be menstruous; because Hindoo females, in that state, are deemed unclean, and are removed from the usual dwelling part of the house. బయిటపోవు bayitapovu, To go out ; to go abroad. బయిటవేయు bayitaveyu, To disclose, or reveal. బయిటబడు bayitabadu, v. n. To be disclosed ; to become public.

బయిటి bayiti, adj. Outer, outside, exterior. 2. Strange, foreign.

బయిరవాసము bayiravasamu» s. ride అంగవస్త్రము aDgavastramu.

బయిలు bayiiu, s. Making in the inflex. Sing. బయిటి bayiti, A plain, an open field, an empty space of ground. 2. An esplanade. 3. The outside, the exterior, 4. The air, or atmosphere. 5. Publicity, adj. Clear, evident. బయిలువెళ్లు, బయిలు-దేరు, దేలు bayiluvellu, bayilu-deru, delu, v. n. To go abroad, to go out. 2. To set off, or start. 3. To be shed. బయిలుపఱచు bayilupa- rratsu, To make known ; to reveal, or disclose. బయిలుపడు bayilupadu, To be discovered, or disclosed. బయిటికిపోవు bayitikipovu, To go out, to aDSwer the calls of nature.

బరకము barakamu, 5. A load, or bale, of cotton. .

బరడు baradu, s. The bark of the tamarind tree, &c.

బరతరపు baratarapu, adj. Discharged, dismissed. తరపుచేయు taraphuche- yu, To dismiss.

బరపటాలు barapatalu, 5. A sort of grain.

బరమా barama, s. An auger •, an instrument with which carpenters bore holes.

బరాతము baratamu, s. An assignment ; a written order.

బరాబరి barabari, s. Equality. 2. Good order, or arrangement, adj. Right, just, proper.

బరి bari, s. A school. 2. The side. 3. A line or boundary, adj. Bare, naked.

బరికట్టె barikatte, s. A spear without point,

బరిచీ barichi, s. A spear.

బరుకు baruku, v. a. To scratch ; to lacerate.

బరువసము baruvasamu, s. Confidence. courage, vide భరవసము bharavasamu.

బరువు baravu, 5. And. adj- vide బలువు baluvu.

బరుసు barusu, s. Roughness. 2. Rudeness, adj. Rough, coarse. 2. Rude' brutal, brusque.

బఱ్ఱె barre, s. A female buffalo.

బలగము balagamu, s. A number, or company, of relations, or kinsmen.

బలపము balapamu, s. The soft white clay substance, or crayon, like slate pencil, used in writing upon a black board, &c.

బలము balamu, s. Strength, might, force. 2. Power, virtue, influence. 3. An army, forces. 4. Rigour, severity, adj. Strong, powerful, stout, robust. 2. Efficacious. చతురంగబలము chaturangabalamu, The four kinds of Indian forces, viz. Infantry, chariots, elephants and horses, hence చదరంగబలము tsada- rangabalamu? Chessmen.

బలి bali, 5. A king and Daitya. % Tax, royal revenue. 3. An oblation, a victim, a religious offering in general. 4. Presentation of food, &c. To all created beings ; one of the five great sacraments of the Hindoo religion. 5. The sacrifice of an animal, or raw flesh, to the goddess Durga. 6. Fragments of food, left at an oblation, or meal.

బలిజెవారు, బల్జెవారు balijevaru, baljevaru, s. flu. A very numerous caste, among the Sudras of Telingana. The Balaja caste బలిజెరికము balijerikamu, The profession of that caste.

బలిమి balimi, s. Strength, power, force.

బలియు baliyu, v. n. To become corpulent ; to grow fat, big, or thick. 2. To increase, multiply, or be augmented. బలిపించు balipintsu, v. #. To fatten, or strengthen. బలుసుకొను balusukonu, v. Comp. To grow of itself fat, big, or thick.

బలు bain, adj. Much, great, exceeding, very. 2. Mortal.

బలుగుత్తులు baluguttulu, s. plu. A sort of paddy.

బలుపు balupu, s. Bigness, corpulence.

బలువిడి baluvidi, adv. Much, excessive. 2. Impetuously, vehemently. 3. Severely, strongly.

బసివి basivi, s. A female dedicated to Siva, whose profession is prostitution.

బహుమానము bahumanamu, s. A gift by a superior to an inferior. % Recompense, reward. 3. Honor, adj. Honorable ; in public estimation ; creditable, respectable.

బహుళము bahulama, s. The dark lunar fortnight; that of the moon's decrease, adj. Much, or many.

బహువచనము bahuvachanamu, s. In grammar, The plural number.
