Template:Nop/doc

This forces a standard paragraph space for pages transcluded from the Page: namespace when viewed in the main namespace.

Usage

[edit]

Used at the end of a paragraph in the PAGE: namespace where the paragraph terminates the page.

Note: At the end of the terminating paragraph, add a new line, as the template needs to start a new line to have full functionality (such as use of the "previous page nop" gadget).

... paragraph terminating a page.
{{nop}}

There are no optional parameters.

Previously this template was used when a table stretches over multiple pages. It is no longer the case and is deprecated for that usage; please use {{nopt}} instead.

{{nopt}}

Technical

[edit]

Mediawiki software collapses terminating blank lines, i.e. when they occur at the end of a page. When pages are transcluded from one namespace to another, this can mean the loss of a new paragraph mark rather than its necessary preservation. This template when used appropriately will allow clear designation of the end of a paragraph, and hence the clear start of the next.

The template itself has no effect on the underlying text, however, the strategic placement of this template prevents blank lines from being collapsed, effectively preserving end of paragraph marker

Gadget

[edit]

The NopInserter gadget can be enabled via your preferences. It adds a sidebar link to check for and insert a paragraph-breaking {{nop}} at the end of the previous page.
