Do I want to put this at the bottom of every page? Or maybe not the pages at the end of chapters? Xaxafrad (talk) 08:44, 16 September 2012 (UTC)
- Just on the bottom of pages when a paragraph finishes on that page. The software assumes that paragraphs continue on the next page unless the nop is there. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 08:49, 16 September 2012 (UTC)

- No, if a paragraph ends at the end of a page, then you do use {{nop}}. Otherwise, the next page will be presented as if it continues the same paragraph. If the paragraph does continue onto the next page, then you do not use an {{nop}}, and the text of the two pages will continue seamlessly when they are transcluded. --EncycloPetey (talk) 04:31, 17 September 2012 (UTC)
- The nop is a placeholder. In this situation it stops the wiki from collapsing (gobbling) whitespace, so in this case we use it on a new line to hold and force the linefeed at the end of a page. So we use it on a terminating paragraph on a page when the next page continues the text. If the page is the end of a chapter, the next chapter usually starts the page, so it is becomes redundant. — billinghurst sDrewth 04:45, 17 September 2012 (UTC)

How to add double white line[edit]
Hi, in Dutch WS, the document nl:MAX HAVELAAR uses a double white line after each paragraph. However, NOP only inserts one. I tried adding one or two empty paragraphs before the NOP, but then the whitespace is too big. Does anybody see how to get this right? TIA, Hamaryns (talk) 19:26, 7 April 2024 (UTC)
