The History of the Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge (1734)
by Thomas Sprat
The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge was established in November 1660. It was granted a Royal Charter by Charles II. Thomas Spratt first published his history of the society in 1667, and this transcription is of the 4th edition of the work, from 1734.
The work is essentially structured in three parts. Part 1 is short and has been transcluded as one item. Part 2 is very long and is interspersed with examples of contributions published in the Philosophical Transactions; it has been divided into a number of subsections and the PT 'papers' separated. Part 3 is long, but of one continuous narrative, so has been transcluded as one item.
