Showers; educ; privately; entered Welsh Regiment, 1883; entered Indian Army, 1884; became Lt.-Col. 1909; served in the Soudan Expedition and obtained medal with two clasps and bronze star; also in Mekran, 1901; was present at assault and capture of fort Nadi, 1899; Political Agent and Deputy Commissioner, Quetta and Peshawar; Political Agent at Kalats; at Alwar; Resident, Jaipur, 1910; Resident at Nepal since 1912.
