ENGELBERT, ĕng'el-bĕrt (c.1250-1331). A Benedictine author. He was educated at Prague and Padua, and became Abbot of Admont in Styria in 1297. He is noted chiefly for his Latin history of the Roman Empire, entitled De Ortu, Progressu et Fine Imperii Romani, which has been frequently republished. Several of his other productions were published in the Thesaurus Anecdotorum Novissimus (1721), and in the Bibliotheca Ascetica Antiquo-nova (1723-25).
