While there are some hard and fast rules to proofreading at Wikisource, generally there is quite a lot of play in how things are done. Refer to the Proofreaders guide (PRG). Beginner proofreaders may err by omission. Advanced wikiers may get quite elaborate.

As a rule, if you change someone's proofreading, refer to the PRG in the edit summary. "Closer to printed image" covers a lot.

Wikifying is a matter of judgement.…

A Project Manager can set standards that over-rule the PRG or specify standards for the work. They will then take responsibility for seeing the final work is consistent.

Transclusion guidelines

Transclusion is the point when all of the works outstanding issues should be resolved.

Some issues may be easiest managed at the end of the work. For example:

Images

Processing and adding images to text is easiest done in a bulk upload to Commons. If all images are marked missing, they are grouped together at category:Pages with missing images.

This would also enable consistency through the text.

This would support volunteers who want to focus on images. This would support new volunteers who are familiar with image processing, enabling them to become familiar with wiki ways generally or Wikisource specifically as they contribute with their current skills.

Links

Where there are multiple references over pages or chapters, superfluous links may be included. These can be rationalised at transclusion. Beginning proofreaders may pass on including links. Efforts should be made to identify and include links to proper Author names and work titles, and Author pages are checked.

The works index page is the appropriate page to note obscure or obsolete terms. These can be added as a transcriber's note at the beginning of the transcluded work, or as an added glossary.

Include:

• All authors and referenced works
• Obscure, obsolete or technical terms; to support understanding where meaning has changed since the work was written. Link to Wiktionary
• Languages other than English without accompanying translation. May have translations in Wikiquote or Wiktionary
• Abbreviations
• Internal links e.g. Chapter links

Section handling

Determining appropriate sections—obvious are ToC, Chapters, Index etc.
