As this is the English wikisource we can't host a work titled in Greek. Is there a PD translation? If so, what is the English title that we can use? Beeswaxcandle (talk) 19:28, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
My suggestion is "Great Theoretikon of Music". There is a complete translation by Katy Romanou, but she is revising it for a second edition (thus hardly PC). But you are welcome to copy and paste my translation, as you find them in the current article Neobyzantine Octoechos. But I suggest to control, if my translation is good enough for Wikisource. - Does "Theoretikon" refer to a person? In which case we would use the word "theoretician". Or does it refer to the structural basis of the music (the modes and scales etc.)? In which case we would use the word "theory".
You're right that we won't be able to host Romanou's translations. But if you're prepared to release your translation then you could post it. The usual way of releasing is to set the translator field in the header to "Wikisource". Beeswaxcandle (talk) 23:45, 25 January 2013 (UTC)
- Definitely not, -on correponds to the Latin -um and is neutrum as grammatical sex... :D I already thought that you might have problems with it. I translated it now as the "Long Treatise of Music Theory", and as far as I am concerned it is also sometimes translated as "Great Music Theory". Chrysanthos already published a short introduction in 1821, which are identical parts of the "Theoretikon mega". The X is the Greek letter which is usually transcribed as Ch. I checked how you handled a similar case as Χρυσόστομος (Mr. Goldmouth), and did the same. I wondered why I had to made the entry in the autor list by hand. Please check, if I did everything in a correct way. By the way, what is the template, if I would like to refer to author {{wikisource|???}}? Platonykiss (talk) 11:05, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
- To refer to the author page from an English sister use [[s:Author:Chrysanthos of Madytos]]. To refer from another language sister use [[s:en:Author:Chrysanthos of Madytos]]. We haven't got around to sorting out a bot to add authors automatically to the lists and so they're still manual. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 18:14, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I have moved a work to User:Platonykiss/Ἔκθεσις τῆς Βασιλείου τάξεως as it is not an English-language work or a published English-language translation. Wikisource:Translations is a good indicator of what goes where, and how we determine what will occur. — billinghurst sDrewth 00:09, 11 October 2019 (UTC)
- As far as I understand the level of this kind of discussions here, I assume the only problem is that the entry was not published under a title in English translation. Is my assumption right?
- In fact the article in English wikipedia has the problem, that the title is not English, but a Latin translation (even misspelled by the way, as one of the reading users mentioned in the discussion!). It is very bizarre, that a title of a Greek work should be represented in an English encyclopedia under a third language, but there are plenty of good articles which could be deleted for this reason and even more in wikisource published under the untranslated (and even untransliterated) title.
- If your question is whether I will clean behind the mess you created here, my answer is: "no!" If you would like to delete this article and its author, it is fine for me, but just do it the proper way without leaving many links leading to nowhere. Thank you very much!
