Zindel, masculine, ‘light taffeta,’ from the equivalent Middle High German zindâl, zëndâl; from Middle Latin cendalum (Greek σίνδων, ‘fine linen,’ literally ‘Indian stuff’), whence Italian zendado, and zendale.
