Identity of author

[edit]

The author is credited as "G. F. Crossthwaite", living at Eldon Villa, George Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight, in the 1940s. I was able to confirm that a George Francis Crossthwaite lived in Ryde at the time, and I think it safe to assume they are the same person.

I also found that a George Francis Crossthwaite served as British Consul in Cologne around this time, or shortly thereafter. Given the fact that the name appears to be relatively uncommon, and the fact that our author is both familiar with and interested in German language, literature, and culture, I think it is also safe to assume they are the same person. —Beleg Tâl (talk) 22:39, 13 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
