English-language translations of
Hej, Slovania (Hey, Slavs)  (1834)
by Samo Tomášik

Slovak Lutheran pastor Samo Tomášik originally called the song Hej, Slováci (Hey, Slovaks), referring only to his own nation, but later changed it to include all Slavs. This rewritten version became popular among other Slavic peoples too, becoming the anthem of the Pan-Slavic movement, the organizational anthem of the Sokol movement, and the national anthem of the Yugoslavia and Serbia and Montenegro. The original version was used as an anthem of the First Slovak Republic.
