7. A. DÜRER MALUJÍCÍ HLAVU
SPASITELOVU.

1526.

hledám Tebe, zmučený můj Pane,
po světě širém — hledám, nenalézám;
co člověk tady, tygrem jest či hadem,
vždy jedním z zvěře, kterou ďábel pase.

HEAD.

1526.

Thee do I seek for, O my tortured Lord,
Through the wide world, — I seek, but do not find;
Tiger-like, serpent-like is man, and aye,
One of the brood the devil pastureth,

[28] [29]

A přece — ráčíš sídliti-li v světě —
jen duše lidská příbytkem je Tvojím,
jak Luther má ji, boží muž a sluha,
či Melanchton, ta moudrosti Tvé včela.

Můj Pane zmučený, já nejsem hoden,
bys pod střechu mou vešel — — Ty však, Lásko
přec vcházíš mile. V chvílích nejkrásnějších
já cítím, kterak v komnatě mé duše
Ty odpočíváš, okem svým se díváš,
mým dechem tiše oddychovat ráčíš —

a proto smím Tvé nejsvětější hlavě
své tahy dáti, milostný můj Pane!

Apoštolové“ (1911).

Yet, deignest Thou to sojourn in the world,
Only a human soul is Thine abode,
As Luther, man and servitor of God,
Or Melanchthon, who is Thy wisdom's bee.

My tortured Lord, I am not worthy that
Thou shouldest come beneath my roof. But Thou,
O Love, yet graciously approachest. In
Most wondrous moments do I feel that Thou
Dost take Thine ease amid the chamber of
My spirit; with mine eyes Thou gazest. Thou
Vouchsafest gently with my breath to breathe.

Wherefore to Thy most hallowed head I dare
To give my lineaments, most gracious Lord!
