XLVII.

And although the particular Congregations be diftinct and feverall Bodies, every one as a compact and knit Citie in it felfe; yet are they all to walk by one and the fame Rule, and by all meanes convenient to have the counfell and help one of another in all needfull affaires of the Church, as members of one body in the common faith under Chritt their onely head.

XLVIII.

That a civill Magiftracie is an ordinance of God fet up by God for the punishment of evill doers, and for the praife of them that doe well; and that in all law full things commanded by them, fubjection ought to be given by us in the Lord: and that we are to make fupplication and prayer for Kings, and all that are in authority, that under them we may live a peaceable and quiet life in all godlines and honefty.

The fupreme Magiftracie of this Kingdome we beleeve to be the King and Parliament freely chofen by the Kingdome,and that in all thofe civill Lawes which have been acted by them, or for the prefent is or fhall be ordained, we are bound to yeeld fubjection and obedience unto in the Lord, as conceiving our felves bound to defend both the perfons of thofe thus chofen, and all civill Lawes made by them,with our perfons,liberties,and eftates,with all that is called ours, although we fhould fuffer never fo much from them in not actively fubmitting to fome Ecclefiafticall Lawes,which might be conceived by them to
