Af. אדלי to lift, suspend. Sot. 34a וכ׳ דמדלי טעונא a

דלל (b. h.) [to be thin, swing, hang,] to bc poor. Lev. R. s. 34 המצות מן דלו they became poor in good deeds. Hif. הדל, הידל 1) to thin, to take of grapes, or take out plants in order to give the remainder more room. Peah III, 3 המדל (Y. ed. המידל) he who thins the vine- yard; Tosef. ib. I, 10. Peah VII, 5; a. fr. -- M. Kat. 4 sq. (a Boraitha quoted by Rabina) וכ׳ לירקות מדלין והתניא (v. דלה) are we not told, you may irrigate the vegetable garden during the festive week, if you intend to use the vegetables during the festive days? Said Rabbah to him [read] שלופי מדלין מאי מיא מדלין מדלין סברת מי you think this m'dallin means you may draw water, it means; to pluck (ref. to Peah VII, 5). - Said Rabina to him; והתניא וכ׳ לירקות מים מדלין But it reads, M'dallin mayim you may sprinkle water &c. -- Part. דלל ch. 1) to lift up (v. דלי). Keth. 72a ידלוניה דידל him who lifts up (his voice in funereal lamentations), they will lift up (praise him athisfuneral); M. Kat. 28b. -- 2) to thin, v. דליל. Ithpa. אידל to lift ons's self up, be proud. Ib. [readv] ידלוניה אידל דלא hin who did not praise himself, they will &c. (Ms. M. 2 דיילוניה לידל לא, read; דיידלוניה, let one not praise himself, in order that they may &c.).
דלם, דלום m. (דלל, with format. מ) diminution, defect (cmp. דופי). Pes. 57a that the workmanship was good ד׳ בהם ואין Ms. M. 1 a. ed. (Ms. M. 2 דליס, Ar. דלוס, דליס, v. Koh. Ar. Compl.) and there was no defect in them; Tosef. Men. XIII, 19 דלום בו נטה שלא ed. Zuck. (ed. כלום). - Tosef. B. Kam. VII, 8 דליס מקבל השמן אין (Var..כלוםס; Mekh. Mishp. N'zikm. s. 13 מכל; Yalk.
