required. Ib. אחר דבר ע״י ל׳ an indirect taking (with lov-
ed hand, by a string &c.). Ib. 11b וכ׳ ל׳ ל׳ יליף he com-
pares the expression לקח (in Ex. XII, 22 a. Lev. l. c.); a.
fr. -- 2) purchase, acguisition. Ex. R. s. 28, beg. (ref. to
Ps. LXVIII, 19) לו נתנה בל׳ he gave the Law to him as an

to intimate that one of the two must have been legally

לקיט m. (לקט) gleaner, asort of client, retainer. Shebu. 46b מאי זלקיטו שכידו how about his hired laborer or his client (may they take the oath) - Y. Erub. VI, 23c top ולקיטו שמשו his (the gentile's) attendant or client. Keth. 54a בל׳ וחילופה (Ar. בלקוט) and the reverse is the law (as to deducting from his wages the outlay for his garments) concerning the client; בל׳ וכן the same is the law &c.

לקיטה f. (לקט) picking, collecting, harvesting. Peah I, 4 כאחת ולקיטתו and such fruits as are harvested all at once (not singly as they become ripe). R. Hash. 14b בשעת עישורו לקיטתו the duty of giving tithes begins when it is being cut. Ib. 15a; Tosef. Shebi. IV, 21 למעשר לקיטתו אחר after it is harvested begins the duty &c.; Succ. 40a אחר לקיטה (בת). IX, 3 מלקת שהיא מפני (ed. Dehr. מלקה) because it (the weasel) laps (lets the water drip back out of its mouth).
לקש (b. h.) to e slow, late. Hif. הלקיש 1) to retard. Num. R. s. 1, beg. (ref. to מאפליה, Jer. II, 31; cmp. אפיל) אותה והלקשתי. . . . מא did I ever promise . . . and retard it?; Tanh.
