לתא f. (לות, denom. of לות, to join, attach, v. P. Sm. 1920) 1) fellowship, comhpany. Yeb. 29a דידה ׳ אהותהמשום בזירה they made her sister subject to Halitsah (v. חליצה) on account of her associate in the case t. e. her sister). -- 2) that which clings t0 d person, fate, luck. B. Mets. 20bמששום פקע דידי לתאי the cedar column burst in my luck (to avenge the wrong done me). Ib. 106a הוא לתאך משום (דידך לתן) it happened in tthy (bad) uck; לתאי משום in my bad luck.
לתיתה f. (לתת) moistening the grain before grinding. Pes, 36a בוידדן ליתה ל׳ the moistening is not done by careful persons (priests). Ib. 40a ל׳ בלא לנקייה אפשר אי Ms. M. (ed. נקייה) white flour cannot be produced with- out moistening. Ib. וכ׳ ל׳ דבעי לא אי if it required no moistening what is the guard for? (v. שימור).

לתת (cmp. לוש a. Arab. latta) to stir, mix, esp. to stir the grain in water for the purpose of moistening it before grinding, in gen. to wash or moisten grain. Tosef. B. Kam. X, 9 לתתן ולא and the miller omitted to moisten it. Tosef. Makhsh. III, 2 וכ׳ בטל ללותתן to have them washed in the dew or rain. Pes. 36a וכ׳ לותתין אין mustu not be washed before grinding; a. fr.
