17 Aug (p.2) of road includes creosote bush, Morotonia, tar bush, sotol, Agave lechuguilla, Yucca elata. In afternoon, went bird hunting in N. M. for Cochiti Project. Drove to Anapra, then north on 273, by Country Club road jct., to a dirt road heading west. Drove W on this, hunting at several places. Two Lepus californicus seen-- little else except for a few (probable) desert sparrows. Returned home: milage about 30 miles. On return, had message that registered letter at TWC post office—went in and picked it up. From Stew Peckham (Cochiti Proj.). Milage 20. Citellus spilosoma seen at jct. US 85 & Country Club Rd.--apparently used to the traffic—sat by corner and watched while ate, etc. 2 Sept. Drove west in evening on Country Club to N. M. 273, then north about 1 mi. to dirt road leading west. Drove west about ½ mi. and hunted in this area for birds for Cochiti Proj. Mainly mesquite and yucca. Shot 3 birds at dusk (1 shot) from upper portion large mesquite hummock—apparently Ageliaus phoeniceus (female and/or immature). Two Lepus californicus seen. 5 Sept. Drove with Anita and girls to the Sacramento Mts. east of Alamogordo, N. M. Drove thru Cloudcroft and a short distance east, then
