2 Nov. (p.2) by the Rio Grande. She also thought she saw a sharp-tailed sparrow. 7 Nov. In mid afternoon, walked north along Rio Grande, hunting for birds. Numerous meadowlarks in the short grasses along the river (the valley between the levees has been cleared of salt cedar and all but an occasional cottonwood--salt cedar present are only a few inches high). Blackbirds, apparently Brewer's, bathing in the water. One flock of small shorebirds seen. A number of pipits along the edge of the water--collected one, a water pipit (Anthus spinoletta) at approx. locality of Rio Grande, ca. 1/2 mi. N El Paso city limits, El Paso Co., Texas. One Killdeer seen. Inca doves around the house at 803 Mamie Rd. In last few days, Red-winged Blackbirds, Yellow-headed Blackbirds, House Finches, Salmon-shafted Flicker all seen in vicinity of home. Many trees now noticeably yellow though others have not yet begun to turn. 6 Nov. On 6 Nov., drove my mother and father to Hunt's Hole then Kilbourne Hole. Between the two, saw a large flock of, apparently, lark buntings. Also, ca. 3 mi. E Lamarck, Dona Ana Co., N. Mex., picked up a DOR Crotalus viridis.
