14 Nov. Drove in late afternoon with my mother and father, Tina, and Becky west toward Strauss. Stopped at the edge of valley and walked N, looking for fossil material. Found some scraps of bone & teeth. Also found scattered fragments & whole bones of Recent Vulpes macrotis and Lepus californicus. Collected the skull of both and several other bones of the Vulpes. Returned home about 5 pm. 27 Nov. Left home at mid-morning with Becky & Tina and drove north to Canutillo, then east to West Mt. Franklin County Park. Several picnic areas set up there. Drove north about a mile (to last canyon before road ends) and the girls & I climbed about a mile up canyon. Shot one desert sparrow and saw several wrens. Returned to car and ate lunch at a place nearer end of road. Then returned to same area as before to look at two caves spotted in a side canyon--plainly visible from road. Checked caves at about 20 minutes climb from parking area. In igneous intrusive (?) rock of reddish brown color. Two fellows met near them--one said was inhabited by man 20-30 years ago who kept animals (sheep?) in it. On checking, a top layer of manure (but probably not sheep?), much of which
