1965 AHH Journal

27 Nov. (p.2) of a shrub whose name escapes me Ptelea angustifolia: fruit a tripalmate leaf. Agave perryi? Many examples of a large composite (Baccharis?). Gopher sign along the arroyo bottoms and some fresh sign on lower slopes among the lechuguilla. Possible rock-squirrel seen. 30 Nov. Got some McAbee gopher traps this evening and set one pair about 8 pm. Had a Geomys arenarius within 1/2 hour. Burrow quite deep-about 1' in sand. Burrow lateral quite long, making it difficult to reach the main tunnel, which was just barely large enough to reach into. Scrounge, our cat, had caught a pocket gopher during the day-time a few days ago and Anita has seen at the mouth of a burrow. 2 Dec. In afternoon set out 9 museum special traps in the igneous rock SW of Holiday Hall, Texas Western College Campus, El Paso, El Paso Co., Texas. Vegetation very scanty, consisting mostly of very scattered creosote bush. Very small am't's of stunted cats-claw, a very little Ephedra, a few composites.

Loose rocks and a few small areas of rock slide present. Some holes into rock outcrops. Area apparently well beat-up by college students.

3 Dec. Checked traps this morning. 2 Peromysuc eremicus, both from among rocks, one on a N slope
