9 April (p.3) serpentina, Crotaphytus collaris, and Eumeces obsoletus. Speedometer readng: 81843.5. 10 April Thunderstorm about time we arose (around 6 am). Drove on to Fredonia where gassed up & ate breakfast. Then on to Spring River, 1 mi. N & 3 miles E Crestline, Cherokee Co., Kans. Arrive about 9:30. Enroute, extremely heavy rain thru area south of Cherryvale & lesser am't's on the either side. Warm and muggy at Spring River, eventually considerable am't. of sunshine. I worked mainly north of the road. Many Terrapene carolina wandering around early and a few later. I collected 6. Collected 13 Eumeces fasciatus and 1 E. anthracinus, mainly under rocks and logs on the upper slopes of the valley or on top. Also collected 5 Diadophis punctatus from under rocks, out of the valley. One Rana pipiens collected from pool a bit above the river. General area is one mainly of oaks but with some other trees & shrubs mixed in. Many fallen logs. Numerous herbs in bloom & ferns well up, etc. several trees in bloom (white) and the Redbud is blooming over most of the eastern Kansas area. Saw several mice, presumably Pitymys under logs; runway systems
