10 April (p.4) dam. Water to about 2 1/2' deep, separated from the reservoir by a dike or old road bed. Most prominent was Hyla versicolor, but also Rana pipiens and Acris crepitans. First time I've heard latter--a metallic sound, almost like a small hammer hitting an anvil. Repeated in rapid succession (several times thought with increasing rapidity). Also collected a Rana catesbiana. One of the fellows collected a Natrix. One R. catesbiana collected was approximately 6-8” snout-vent length--released. Locality estimated as 2 mi. S Riverton, Cherokee Co., Kans. Also a Bufo americanus picked up on road. Returned to camp, arriving approximately 10:30 pm. Catalogued to about midnight and then retired. 11 April Awakened by rain approximately 3:30 am. Rain with fair intensity for a while, then dissipated. We arose between 6:30 & 7 am and left campat about 7:25 am. Ate breakfast and gassed up at Independence and gas again a Marion (?). Arrived Hays shortly before 3 pm. Windy all the way from camp; clear at camp, extreme haze (dust?) further west, then increasing clouds--a few light showers south of Hays. Members of class: Glenn Sekavec, Ken Andersen, Larry Olson, John Farney, Sexson, Tom Kinder. Walsh didn't accompany us.
