Herringshaw, William Franklin,

soldier,

was born Feb. 12, 1871, in Clevelund, Ohio; and is the son of the late George Hugh Herringshaw. He was educated in the public and private schools of Cleveland, Ohio. In 1898 he became u second lieutenant in the fifth regiment Ohio infantry in the Spanish-American war; and in 1899 was promoted to first lieutenant in the fortyIn 1901 6i.xth regiment volunteer infantry. he became first lieutenant in the thirteenth I nited States cavalry.

Herrmann, Richard, civil engineer, manuwas born March 10, 1849, Ciiemnit/, Saxony. He has filled positions from section hand to civil engineer. In 1877-1908 he was secretary, treasurer and president of the Dubuque Cabinet Makers' Association; and is now head of the firm of Herrmann and Sons, manufacturfncturer, author,

He is known as a student of geology, archiEoloi^y and ethnology; is the founder of the Herrmann museum of natural history of Dubuque; and he was one of the promoters and builders of the monument to Julien Dubuque, founder of the city. He has a large private collection ot geological specimens; is secretary in charge of the Iowa institute of arts and sciences; and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He is the author of Life and Adventures of Julien Dubuque; Mound Builders of the Mississippi Valley; and numerous scientific papers.

Herron, Francis, clergyman, college president was born .Jun«' 28. 1774, in Shippensburg. Pa. In 1827 he was moderator of the general ass»'mbly. He was influential in securing the location of the Western theological seminary at Allegheny City, Pa.; and was its president in 1827-60. He died Dec. 0. IfidO. in Pennsylvania. He was interested in the shipping business, owning shares in forty vessels. He built the South Shore railrv^ad between Rraintree and Cohasset and was its first president; was one of the original owners and directors of the Boston and
