school, He was the author of Cases on the Law of Contracts; Summary of Equity Pleading: Cases in Equity Pleading and Elementary Treatise on the Law of Contracts. He died in 1900 in Ithaca, N.Y.

Langdon, Andrew, manufacturer. banker. was born in New Marlboro, Mass. For thirty years he has been engaged in the manufacturing and banking business in Buffalo, N.Y.: and is a director and vice-president of the General railway signal company of Rochester; a director of the Commonwealth trust company of Buffalo; a director of the Buffalo foundry company; and a director and vice-president of the Buffalo general electric company and of various other corporations. He presented the bronze doors for the Buffalo historical society's marble building in Delaware park; is president of the Buffalo historical society; and for several years was park commissioner.

Langdon, Charles C., journalist, statesman, was born Aug. 3, 1806, in Southington, Conn. In 1820 he was engaged in mercantile pursuits in Perry county, Ala.; and in 1834 was editor of the Mobile Observer. In 1839, 1840, 1855, 1861 and 1865 he was a member of the state legislature: and was mayor of Mobile, Ala. In 1965 and 1868 he was a member of the state constitutional conventions. He claimed to have been elected a representative from Alabama to the thirty-ninth congress, but was declined admittance. In 1885-88 he was secretary of the state of Alabama. He died June 8, 1889. in Alabama.

Langdon, Chauncey, lawyer, legislator, congressmen, was born in Vermont. He served seven years in the legislature of the state: and was a state councillor for nine years. He died in 1830 in Vermont.

Langdon, Elisha Bassett, soldier, was born in Ohio. In 1961 he was major in the first regiment Ohio infantry; and in 1865 was brevetted brigadier-general of volunteers. He was honorably mustered out in 1864. He died May 30, 1867.

Langdon, Frank Warren, physician, surgeon, author, was born Dec, 1. 1852, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Since 1980 he has practiced medicine in Cincinnati, Ohio, limited to nervous and mental diseases. He is the author of The Aphasis and Their Medico-Legal Relations.

Langdon, John, merchant, United States senator, governor, was born June 25, 1741, in Portsmouth, N.H. He was engaged in mercantile pursuits; and was prominent in anti-revolutionary affairs. In 1775-76 and 1783 he was a delegate from Vermont to the continental congress; al served several terms as a speaker of the house of representatives, being president in 1783. In 1787 he was a delegate to the federal constitutional convention. In 1788, 1805, 1809 and 1810-1 he was governor of the state of New Hampshire. In 1789-1803 he was a member of the United States senate and was president of that body. He died Sept. 18, 1818, in Portsmouth. N.H

Langdon, Loomis Lyman, soldier, author, was born in 1830 in Bufalo, N.Y. In 1834 he graduated from the United States military academy: and was appointed second lieutenant in the United States artillery. He served through the civil war as captain of the first United States artillery. He was promoted to the coloneley in the first regiment of the United States artillery. In 1891 he was retired from active service as colonel; and in 1984 was advanced to the rank of brigadier general of the United States army. He is the author of Campaigning in the Everglades.

Langdon, Oliver Monroe, surgeon, founder, was born Feb. 2, 1817, in Columbus, Ohio. He joined the fourth regiment of Ohio volunteers, and served as its surgeon till the close of the Mexican war. He was one of the founders of Miami military college. He died June 15., 1878, in Columbus, Ohio.

Langdon, Samuel, clergyman, author, was born Jan. 12, 1723. in Boston, Mass. In 1788 he was a delegate to the New Hampshire convention that adopted the constitution of the United States; often had its debates, and did much to remove prejudice against the constitution, He was the author of Summary of Christian Faith and Practice; and Observations on the Revelations. He died Nov. 24. 1797, in Hampton Falls, N.H.

Langdon, William Chauncey, clergyman, author, was born Aug. 19, 1831, in Burlington Vt. He was an episcopal clergyman of Redford. Pa. He was the author of The Defects of Our Practical Catholicity; Plain Papers for Parish Priests and Peoples; The Catholic Reform Movement in the Italian Church and Conflict of Practice and Principle in the American Church, He died Oct. 28, 1895, in Providence, R.J.

Langdon, Woodbury, jurist, congressman, was born in 1739 in Portsmouth, N.H. In 1779-80 he was a delegate from New Hampshire to the continental congress: was a counselor in 1783-84; and a judge of the supreme court of New Hampshire in 1782 and 1786-90, De died Jan. 13, 1805, in Ports. mouth, N.H

Lange, Alexis Frederick, educator, author, was born April 23, 182, in Layfette county. Mo. He is professor of English and Scandinavian philology and dean of the collegge of letters at the university of California. He is the author of Deloney's Genthe Craft.

Langerfeldt, Theodore Otto, painter and artist, was born March 2. 1811, in Germany. He came to America in 1857; and subsequently studied architecture in Germany and England. He returned to Boston in 1888 and taught for many years at the institute of technology.
