Idar, Ruling Chief of; Maharaja Dhiraj Maharajaji Shri Dowlat Sinhji Sahib Bahadur; b. at Jodhpur, 1878; educ: Mayo College, Ajmere; received miltary training in the Imperial Service Cavalry, Jodhpur and was Sqadron Commandant and Adjutant in the same Corps for some years; was Military Secretary and Member of Jodhpur State Council; was adopted by Maharaja Sir Pratap Singhji Bahadur of Idar; installed on the gadi, consequent on the Meharaja’s appointment as Regent of the state of Jodhpur, 1911; accompanied his father to England for the Coronation of late King-Emperor when he was made A.D.C. to Prince of Wales (now Emperor George V.); again visited England for the Coronation of Emperor George V; served in the Mohamad Expedition with an escort of Jodhpur Lancers; joined the Tirah expedition as A.D.C. to General Sir W. Lockhart; area of the State, 1669 square miles; population, about 170,000; revenue, 6 lakhs; entitled to a salute of 15 guns. Address: Idar, Bombay Presidency, India.

Iftikhar-ud-Din, Fakir Saiyad, C.I.E. (1911), Settlement Collector; entered Government Service, 1886; appointed Extra-Assistant Commissionr, 1901; Revenue Member of Council, Tonk State, 1903; on special duty with the Amir of Afghanistan; British Agent at Kabul, 1907; Settlement Collector, 1910. Address: Tonk, Rajputana, India.

Ilaiyarasanandal, Zamindar of; Sri Ravilla Venkataranga Appa-Swami Nayudu Garu; claims descent from an ancient family said to have emigrated from modern Vellore, Chittoor District in the Madras Presidency, during the time of Krishna Raya, the greatest of the Vijayanagar Kings (1509-1580 A.D.); s. of Kasturi Ranga Appasawmi Nayudu; b. 1847; educ: Hindu College, Tinnevelly; knows English, Tamil and Sanskrit; assumed management, 1900; Member. District and Taluk Boards, Tinnevelly; maintains a choultry at Koilpatti. Recreation: Music. Address: Ilaiyarasanandal, via, Koilpatti, Tinnevelly District, Madras Presy., India.

Ilbert, Sir Courtenay Peregrine, C.I.E (1882), C.S.I (1885), K.C.S.I. (1899), G.C.B. (1911); b. 1841; s. of Rev. Peregrine Arthur Ilbert; educ: Marlborough and Balliol College, Oxford; Hertford, Ireland, Craven and Edin Scholar; called to Bar (Lincolns Inn), 1869; Legal Member, Surepme Council, India, 1882-6: introduced what has come to be known as the “Ilbert Bill”, which raised considerable opposition from Anglo-Indians; Vice-Chancellor, Calcutta University, 1885-6; Parliamentary Assistant Counsel and Counsel of the Treasury, 1886-1901; Clerk to the House of Commons, 1901.
