Chapter 1

1Now the word of the Lord came to Jonas the son of Amathi, saying,	και εγένετο λόγος κυρίου προς Ιωνάν τον του Αμαθί λέγων
2Rise, and go to Nineve, the great city, and preach in it; for the cry of its wickedness is come up to me.	ανάστηθι και πορεύθητι εις Νινευϊ την πόλιν την μεγάλην και κήρυξον εν αυτή ότι ανέβη η κραυγή της κακίας προς με
3But Jonas rose up to flee to Tharsis from the presence of the Lord. And he went down to Joppa, and found a ship going to Tharsis: and he paid his fare, and went up into it, to sail with them to Tharsis from the presence of the Lord.	και ανέστη Ιωνάς του φυγείν εις Θαρσείς εκ προσώπου κυρίου και κατέβη εις Ιόππην και έυρε πλοίον βαδίζον εις Θαρσείς και έδωκε το ναύλον αυτού και ανέβη εις αυτό του πλεύσαι μετ΄ αυτών εις Θαρσείς εκ προσώπου κυρίου
4And the Lord raised up a wind on the sea; and there was a great storm on the sea, and the ship was in danger of being broken.	και κύριος εξήγειρε πνεύμα επί την θαλάσσαν και εγένετο κλύδων μέγας εν τη θαλάσση και το πλοίον εκινδύνευε του συντριβήναι
5And the sailors were alarmed, and cried every one to his god, and cast out the wares that were in the ship into the sea, that it might be lightened of them. But Jonas was gone down into the hold of the ship, and was asleep, and snored.	και εφοβήθησαν οι ναυτικοί και ανεβόων έκαστος προς τον θεόν αυτού και εκβολήν εποιήσαντο των σκευών των εν τω πλοίω εις την θάλασσαν του κουφισθήναι απ΄ αυτών Ιωνάς δε κατέβη εις την κοίλην του πλοίου και εκάθευδε και έρεγχε
6And the shipmaster came to him, and said to him, Why snorest thou? arise, and call upon thy God, that God may save us, and we perish not.	και προσήλθε προς αυτόν ο πρωρεύς και είπεν αυτώ τι συ ρέγχεις ανάστα επικαλού τον θεόν σου όπως διασώση ο θεός ημάς και ου απολώμεθα
7And each man said to his neighbour, Come, let us cast lots, and find out for whose sake this mischief is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonas.	και είπεν έκαστος προς τον πλησίον αυτού δεύτε βάλωμεν κλήρους και επιγνώμεν τίνος ένεκεν η κακία αύτη έστιν ημίν και έβαλον κλήρους και έπεσεν ο κλήρος επί Ιωνάν
8And they said to him, Tell us what is thine occupation, and whence comest thou, and of what country and what people art thou?	και είπον προς αυτόν απάγγειλον δη τίνος ένεκα η κακία αύτη εστίν εν ημίν τις σου η εργασία εστί και πόθεν έρχη και εκ ποίας χώρας και εκ ποίου λαού ει συ
9And he said to them, I am a servant of the Lord; and I worship the Lord God of heaven, who made the sea, and the dry land.	και είπε προς αυτούς δούλος κυρίου ειμί εγώ και τον θεόν του ουρανού εγώ σέβομαι ος εποίησε την θάλασσαν και την ξηράν
10Then the men feared exceedingly, and said to him, What is this that thou hast done? for the men knew that he was fleeing from the face of the Lord, because he had told them.	και εφοβήθησαν οι άνδρες φόβον μέγαν και είπον προς αυτόν τι τούτο εποίησας διότι έγνωσαν οι άνδρες ότι εκ προσώπου κυρίου ην φεύγων ότι απήγγειλεν αυτοίς
11And they said to him, What shall we do to thee, that the sea may be calm to us? for the sea rose, and lifted its wave exceedingly.	και ειπόν προς αυτόν τι ποιήσομεν σοι και κοπάσει η θάλασσα αφ΄ ήμων ότι η θάλασσα επορεύετο και εξήγειρε μάλλον κλύδωνα
12And Jonas said to them, Take me up, and cast me into the sea, and the sea shall be calm to you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.	και είπεν Ιωνάς προς αυτούς άρατέ με και εμβάλετε εις την θάλασσαν και κοπάσει η θάλασσα αφ΄ υμών διότι έγνωκα εγώ ότι δι΄ εμέ ο κλυδών ο μέγας όυτος εφ΄ υμάς εστί
13And the men tried hard to return to the land, and were not able: for the sea rose and grew more and more tempestuous against them.	και παρεβιάζοντο οι άνδρες του επιστρέψαι προς την γην και ουκ ηδύναντο ότι η θάλασσα επορεύετο και εξηγείρετο μάλλον επ΄ αυτούς
14And they cried to the Lord, and said, Forbid it, Lord: let us not perish for the sake of this man's life, and bring not righteous blood upon us: for thou, Lord, hast done as thou wouldest.	και ανεβόησαν προς κύριον και έιπαν μηδαμώς κύριε μη απολώμεθα ένεκεν της ψυχής του ανθρώπου τούτου και μη δως εφ΄ ήμας αίμα δίκαιον διότι συ κύριε ον τρόπον εβούλου πεποίηκας
15So they took Jonas, and cast him out into the sea: and the sea ceased from its raging.	και έλαβον τον Ιωνάν και εξέβαλον αυτόν εις την θάλασσαν και έστη η θάλασσα εκ του σάλου
16And the men feared the Lord very greatly, and offered a sacrifice to the Lord, and vowed vows.	και εφοβήθησαν οι άνδρες φόβω μεγάλω τον κύριον και έθυσαν θυσίαν τω κυρίω και ηύξαντο τας ευχάς
17	και προσέταξε κύριος κήτει μεγάλω καταπιείν τον Ιωνάν και ην Ιωνάς εν τη κοιλία του κήτους τρείς ημέρας και τρείς νύκτας

Chapter 2

1Now the Lord had commanded a great whale to swallow up Jonas: and Jonas was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights.	και προσηύξατο Ιωνάς προς κύριον τον θεόν αυτού εκ της κοιλίας του κήτους
2And Jonas prayed to the Lord his God out of the belly of the whale,	και είπεν εβόησα εν θλίψει μου προς κύριον τον θεόν μου και εισήκουσέ μου εκ κοιλίας άδου κραυγής μου ήκουσας φωνής μου
3and said, I cried in my affliction to the Lord my God, and he hearkened to me, even to my cry out of the belly of hell: thou heardest my voice.	απέρριψάς με εις βάθη καρδίας θαλάσσης και ποταμοί εκύκλωσάν με πάντες οι μετεωρισμοί σου και τα κύματά σου επ΄ εμέ διήλθον
4Thou didst cast me into the depths of the heart of the sea, and the floods compassed me: all thy billows and thy waves have passed upon me.	και εγώ είπα απώσμαι εξ οφθαλμών σου άρα προσθήσω του επιβλέψαι προς ναόν τον αγιόν σου
5And I said, I am cast out of thy presence: shall I indeed look again toward thy holy temple?	περιεχύθη μοι ύδωρ έως ψυχής άβυσσος εκύκλωσέ με εσχάτη έδυ η κεφαλή μου
6Water was poured around me to the soul: the lowest deep compassed me, my head went down	εις σχισμάς ορέων κατέβην εις γην ης οι μοχλοί αυτής κάτοχοι αιώνιοι και αναβήτω εκ φθοράς η ζωή μου κύριε ο θεός μου
7to the clefts of the mountains; I went down into the earth, whose bars are the everlasting barriers: yet, O Lord my God, let my ruined life be restored.	εν τω εκλείπειν απ΄ εμού την ψυχήν μου του κυρίου εμνήσθην και έλθοι προς σε η προσευχή μου προς ναόν τον αγιόν σου
8When my soul was failing me, I remembered the Lord; and may my prayer come to thee into thy holy temple.	φυλασσόμενοι μάταια και ψευδή έλεον αυτών εγκατέλιπον
9They that observe vanities and lies have forsaken their own mercy.	εγώ δε μετά φωνής αινέσεως και εξομολογήσεως θύσω σοι όσα ηυξάμην αποδώσω σοι εις σωτηρίαν μου τω κυρίω
10But I will sacrifice to thee with the voice of praise and thanksgiving: all that I have vowed I will pay to thee, the Lord of my salvation.	και προσετάγη από κυρίου τω κήτει και εξέβαλε τον Ιωνάν επί την ξηράν
11And the whale was commanded by the Lord, and it cast up Jonas on the dry land.

Chapter 3

1And the word of the Lord came to Jonas the second time, saying,	και εγένετο λόγος κυρίου προς Ιωνάν εκ δευτέρου λέγων
2Rise, go to Nineve, the great city, and preach in it according to the former preaching which I spoke to thee of.	ανάστηθι πορεύθητι εις Νινευϊ την πόλιν την μεγάλην και κήρυξον εν αυτή κατά το κήρυγμα το έμπροσθεν ο εγώ ελάλησα προς σε
3And Jonas arose, and went to Nineve, as the Lord had spoken. Now Nineve was an exceeding great city, of about three days' journey.	και ανέστη Ιωνάς και επορεύθη εις Νινευϊ καθά ελάλησε κύριος η δε Νινευϊ ην πόλις μεγάλη τω θεώ ωσεί πορείας οδού τριών ημερών
4And Jonas began to enter into the city about a day's journey, and he proclaimed, and said, Yet three days, and Nineve shall be overthrown.	και ήρξατο Ιωνάς του επορεύεσθαι εις την πόλιν ωσεί πορείαν ημέρας μιάς και εκήρυξε και είπεν έτι τρείς ημέραι και Νινευϊ καταστραφήσεται
5And the men of Nineve believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloths, from the greatest of them to the least of them.	και επίστευσαν οι άνδρες Νινευϊ τω θεώ και εκήρυξαν νηστείαν και ενεδύσαντο σάκκους από μεγάλου αυτών έως μικρού αυτών
6And the word reached the king of Nineve, and he arose from off his throne, and took off his raiment from him, and put on sackcloth, and sat on ashes.	και ήγγισεν ο λόγος προς τον βασιλέα Νινευϊ και εξανέστη από του θρόνου αυτού και περιείλατο την στολήν αυτού αφ΄ εαυτού και περιεβάλετο σάκκον και εκάθισεν επί σποδού
7And proclamation was made, and it was commanded in Nineve by the king an by his great men, saying, Let not men, or cattle, or oxen, or sheep, taste any thing, nor feed, nor drink water.	και εκηρύχθη και ερρέθη εν τη Νινευϊ παρά του βασιλέως και παρά των μεγιστάνων αυτού λεγόντων οι άνθρωποι και τα κτήνη και οι βόες και τα πρόβατα μη γευσάσθωσαν μηδέ νεμέσθωσαν και ύδωρ μη πιέτωσαν
8So men and cattle were clothed with sackcloths, and cried earnestly to God; and they turned every one from their evil way, and from the iniquity that was in their hands, saying,	και περιεβάλλοντο σάκκους οι άνθρωποι και τα κτήνη και ανεβόησαν προς τον θεόν εκτενώς και απέστρεψαν έκαστος από της οδού αυτών της πονηράς και από της αδικίας της εν χερσίν αυτών λέγοντες
9Who knows if God will repent, and turn from his fierce anger, and so we shall not perish?	τις οίδεν ει μετανοήσει ο θεός και αποστρέψει εξ οργής θυμού αυτού και ου απολώμεθα
10And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil ways; and God repented of the evil which he had said he would do to them; and he did it not.	και είδεν ο θεός τα έργα αυτών ότι απέστρεψαν από των οδών αυτών των πονηρών και μετενόησεν ο θεός επί τη κακία η ελάλησε του ποιήσαι αυτοίς και ουκ εποίησε

Chapter 4

1But Jonas was very deeply grieved, and he was confounded.	και ελυπήθη Ιωνάς λύπην μεγάλην και συνεχύθη
2And he prayed to the Lord, and said, O Lord, were not these my words when I was yet in my land? therefore I made haste to flee to Tharsis; because I knew that thou are merciful and compassionate, long-suffering, and abundant in kindness, and repentest of evil.	και προσεύξατο προς κύριον και είπεν ω κύριε όυχ όυτοι οι λόγοι μου έτι όντος μου εν τη γη μου διά τούτο προέφθασα του φυγείν εις Θαρσείς διότι έγνων ότι συ ελεήμων και οικτίρμων μακρόθυμος και πολυέλεος και μετανοών επί ταις κακίαις
3And now, Lord God, take my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.	και νυν δέσποτα κύριε λάβε την ψυχήν μου απ΄ εμού ότι καλόν το αποθανείν με η ζην
4And the Lord said to Jonas, Art thou very much grieved?	και ειπέ κύριος ει σφόδρα λελύπησαι συ
5And Jonas went out from the city, and sat over against the city; and he made for himself there a booth, and he sat under it, until he should perceive what would become of the city.	και εξήλθεν Ιωνάς εκ της πόλεως και εκάθισεν απέναντι της πόλεως και εποίησεν αύτω εκεί σκηνήν και εκάθητο υποκάτω αυτής έως ου απίδη τι έσται τη πόλει
6And the Lord God commanded a gourd, and it came up over the head of Jonas, to be a shadow over his head, to shade him from his calamities: and Jonas rejoiced with great joy for the gourd.	και προσέταξε κύριος ο θεός κολοκύνθη και ανέβη υπέρ κεφαλής Ιωνά του είναι σκιάν υπεράνω της κεφαλής αυτού του σκιάζειν αυτώ από των κακών αυτού και εχάρη Ιωνάς επί τη κολοκύνθη χαράν μεγάλην
7And God commanded a worm the next morning, and it smote the gourd, and it withered away.	και προσέταξεν ο θεός σκώληκι εωθινή τη επαύριον και επάταξε την κολόκυνθαν και εξηράνθη
8And it came to pass at the rising of the sun, that God commanded a burning east wind; and the sun smote on the head of Jonas, and he fainted, and despaired of his life, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.	και εγενέτο άμα τω ανατείλαι τον ήλιον και προσέταξεν ο θεός πνεύματι καύσωνι συγκαίοντι και επάταξεν ο ήλιος επί την κεφαλήν Ιωνά και ωλιγοψύχει και απελέγετο την ψυχήν αυτού και είπε καλόν μοι το αποθανείν η ζην
9And God said to Jonas, Art thou very much grieved for the gourd? And he said, I am very much grieved, even to death.	και είπεν ο θεός προς Ιωνάν ει σφόδρα λελύπησαι συ επί τη κολοκύνθη και είπε σφόδρα λελύπημαι εγώ έως θανάτου
10And the Lord said, Thou hadst pity on the gourd, for which thou has not suffered, neither didst thou rear it; which came up before night, and perished before another night:	και είπε κύριος συ μεν εφείσω υπέρ της κολοκύνθης υπέρ ης ουκ εκακοπάθησας επ΄ αυτή ουδέ εξέθρεψας αυτήν η εγενήθη υπό νύκτα και υπό νύκτα απώλετο
11and shall not I spare Nineve, the great city, in which dwell more than twelve myriads of human beings, who do not know their right hand or their left hand; and also much cattle?	εγώ δε ου φείσομαι υπέρ Νινευϊ της πόλεως της μεγάλης εν η κατοικούσι εν αυτή πλείους η δώδεκα μυριάδες ανθρώπων οίτινες ουκ έγνωσαν δεξιάν αυτών η αριστεράν και κτήνη πολλά
