Chapter 1

1The Proverbs of Solomon son of David, who reigned in Israel;	παροιμίαι Σολομώντος υιόυ Δαυίδ ος εβασίλευσεν εν Ισραήλ
2to know wisdom and instruction, and to perceive words of understanding;	γνώναι σοφίαν και παιδείαν νοήσαί τε λόγους φρονήσεως
3to receive also hard saying, and to understand true justice, and how to direct judgment;	δέξασθαί τε στροφάς λόγων και λύσεις αινιγμάτων νοήσαί τε δικαιοσύνην αληθή και κρίμα κατευθύνειν
4that he might give subtlety to the simple, and to the young man discernment and understanding.	ίνα δω ακάκοις πανουργίαν παιδί δε νέω αίσθησίν τε και έννοιαν
5For by the hearing of these a wise man will be wiser, and man of understanding will gain direction;	των δε γαρ ακούσας σοφός σοφώτερος έσται ο δε νοήμων κυβέρνησιν κτήσεται
6and will understand a parable, and a dark speech; the saying of the wise also, and riddles.	νοήσει τε παραβολήν και σκοτεινόν λόγον ρήσεις τε σοφών και αινίγματα
7The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; and there is good understanding to all that practise it: and piety toward God is the beginning of discernment; but the ungodly will set at nought wisdom and instruction.	αρχή σοφίας φόβος κυρίου σύνεσις δε αγαθή πάσι τοις ποιούσιν αυτήν ευσέβεια δε εις θεόν αρχή αισθήσεως σοφίαν δε και παιδείαν ασεβείς εξουθενήσουσιν
8Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and reject not the rules of thy mother.	άκουε υιέ νόμους πατρός σου και μη απώση θεσμούς μητρός σου
9For thou shalt receive for thine head a crown of graces, and a chain of gold round thy neck.	στέφανον γαρ χαρίτων δέξη ση κορυφή και κλοιόν χρύσεον περί σω τραχήλω
10My son, let not ungodly men lead thee astray, neither consent thou to them.	υιέ μη σε πλανήσωσιν άνδρες ασεβείς μηδέ βουληθής
11If they should exhort thee, saying, Come with us, partake in blood, and let us unjustly hide the just man in the earth:	εάν παρακαλέσωσί σε λέγοντες ελθέ μεθ΄ ημών κοινώνησον αίματος κρύψωμεν δε εις γην άνδρα δίκαιον αδίκως
12and let us swallow him alive, as Hades would, and remove the memorial of him from the earth:	καταπίωμεν δε αυτόν ώσπερ άδης ζώντα και άρωμεν αυτού την μνήμην εκ γης
13let us seize on his valuable property, and let us fill our houses with spoils:	την κτήσιν αυτού την πολυτελή καταλαβώμεθα πλήσωμεν δε οίκους ημετέρους σκύλων
14but do thou cast in thy lot with us, and let us all provide a common purse, and let us have one pouch:	τον δε σον κλήρον βάλε εν ημίν και μαρσίππιον εν γενηθήτω ημίν
15go not in the way with them, but turn aside thy foot from their paths:	μη πορευθής οδούς μετ΄ αυτών έκκλινον τον πόδα σου εκ των τρίβων αυτών
16 For their feet run to do evil, and are swift to shed blood.	οι γαρ πόδες αυτών εις κακίαν τρέχουσι και ταχινοί εισι του εκχέαι αίμα
17for nets are not without cause spread for birds.	ου γαρ αδίκως εκτείνονται δίκτυα πτερωτοίς
18For they that are concerned in murder store up evils for themselves; and the overthrow of transgressors is evil.	αυτοί γαρ οι φόνου μετέχοντες θησαυρίζουσιν εαυτοίς κακά
19These are the ways of all that perform lawless deeds; for by ungodliness they destroy their own life.	αύται αι οδοί εισι πάντων των συντελούντων τα άνομα τη γαρ ασεβεία την εαυτών ψυχήν αφαιρούνται
20Wisdom sings aloud in passages, and in the broad places speaks boldly.	σοφία εν εξόδοις υμνείται εν δε πλατείαις παρρησίαν άγει
21And she makes proclamation on the top of the walls, and sits by the gates of princes; and at the gates of the city boldly says,	επ΄ άκρων δε τειχέων κηρύσσεται επί δε πύλαις πόλεως θαρρούσα λέγει
22So long as the simple cleave to justice, they shall not be ashamed: but the foolish being lovers of haughtiness, having become ungodly have hated knowledge, and are become subject to reproofs.	όσον αν χρόνον άκακοι έχωνται της δικαιοσύνης ουκ αισχυνθήσονται οι δε άφρονες της ύβρεως όντες επιθυμηταί ασεβείς γενόμενοι εμίσησαν αίσθησιν
23Behold, I will bring forth to you the utterance of my breath, and I will instruct you in my speech.	και υπεύθυνοι εγένοντο ελέγχοις ιδού προήσομαι υμίν εμής πνοής ρήσιν διδάξω δε υμάς τον εμόν λόγον
24Since I called, and ye did not hearken; and I spoke at length, and ye gave no heed;	επειδή εκάλουν και ουχ υπηκούσατε και εξέτεινον λόγους και ου προσείχετε
25but ye set at nought my counsels, and disregarded my reproofs;	αλλά ακύρους εποιείτε εμάς βουλάς τοις δε εμοίς ελέγχοις ου προσείχετε
26therefore I also will laugh at your destruction; and I will rejoice against you when ruin comes upon you:	τοιγαρούν καγώ τη υμετέρα απωλεία επιγελάσομαι καταχαρούμαι δε ηνίκα αν έρχηται υμίν όλεθρος
27yea when dismay suddenly comes upon you, and your overthrow shall arrive like a tempest; and when tribulation and distress shall come upon you, or when ruin shall come upon you.	και ως αν αφίκηται υμίν άφνω θόρυβος η δε καταστροφή ομοίως καταιγίδι παρή η όταν έρχηται υμίν θλίψις και πολιορκία
28For it shall be that when ye call upon me, I will not hearken to you: wicked men shall seek me, but shall not find me.	έσται γαρ όταν επικαλέσησθέ με εγώ δε ουκ εισακούσομαι υμών ζητήσουσί με κακοί και ουχ ευρήσουσιν
29For they hated wisdom, and did not choose the word of the Lord:	εμίσησαν γαρ σοφίαν τον δε φόβον κυρίου ου προείλαντο
30neither would they attend to my counsels, but derided my reproofs.	ουδέ ήθελον εμαίς προσέχειν βουλαίς εμυκτήριζον δε εμούς ελέγχους
31Therefore shall they eat the fruits of their own way, and shall be filled with their own ungodliness.	τοιγαρούν έδονται της εαυτών οδού τους καρπούς και της εαυτών ασεβείας πλησθήσονται
32For because they wronged the simple, they shall be slain; and an inquisition shall ruin the ungodly.	ανθ΄ ων ηδίκουν νηπίους φονευθήσονται και εξετασμός ασεβείς ολεί
33But he that hearkens to me shall dwell in confidence, and shall rest securely from all evil.	ο δε εμού ακούων κατασκηνώσει επ΄ ελπίδι και ησυχάσει αφόβως από παντός κακού

Chapter 2

1My son, if thou wilt receive the utterance of my commandment, and hide it with thee;	υιέ εάν δεξάμενος ρήσιν εμής εντολής κρύψης παρά σεαυτώ
2thine ear shall hearken to wisdom; thou shalt also apply thine heart to understanding, and shalt apply it to the instruction of thy son.	υπακούσεται σοφίας το ους σου και παραβαλείς καρδίαν σου εις σύνεσιν παραβαλείς δε αυτήν επί νουθέτησιν τω υιώ σου
3For it thou shalt call to wisdom, and utter thy voice for understanding;	εάν γαρ την σοφίαν επικαλέση και τη συνέσει δως φωνήν σου
4and if thou shalt seek it as silver, and search diligently for it as for treasures;	την δε αίσθησιν ζητήσης μεγάλη τη φωνή και εάν ζητήσης αυτήν ως αργύριον και ως θησαυρούς εξερευνήσης αυτήν
5then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.	τότε συνήσεις φόβον κυρίου και επίγνωσιν θεού ευρήσεις
6For the Lord gives wisdom; and from his presence come knowledge and understanding,	ότι κύριος δίδωσι σοφίαν και από προσώπου αυτού γνώσις και σύνεσις
7and he treasures up salvation for them that walk uprightly: he will protect their way;	και θησαυρίζει τοις κατορθούσι σωτηρίαν υπερασπιεί δε την πορείαν αυτών
8that he may guard the righteous ways: and he will preserve the way of them that fear him.	του φυλάξαι οδόν δικαιωμάτων και οδόν ευλαβουμένων αυτόν διαφυλάξει
9Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment; and shalt direct all thy course aright.	τότε συνήσεις δικαιοσύνην και κρίμα και κατορθώσεις πάντας άξονας αγαθούς
10For if wisdom shall come into thine understanding, and discernment shall seem pleasing to thy soul,	εάν γαρ έλθη η σοφία εις σην διάνοιαν η δε αίσθησις τη ση ψυχή καλή είναι δόξη
11good counsel shall guard thee, and holy understanding shall keep thee;	βουλή καλή φυλάξει σε έννοια δε οσία τηρήσει σε
12to deliver thee from the evil way, and from the man that speaks nothing faithfully.	ίνα ρύσηταί σε από οδού κακής και από ανδρός λαλούντος μηδέν πιστόν
13Alas for those who forsake right paths, to walk in ways of darkness;	ω οι εγκαταλείποντες οδούς ευθείας του πορεύεσθαι εν οδοίς σκότους
14who rejoice in evils, and delight in wicked perverseness;	ω οι ευφραινόμενοι επί κακοίς και χαίροντες επί διαστροφή κακή
15whose paths are crooked, and their courses winding;	ων αι τρίβοι σκολιαί και καμπύλαι αι τροχιαί αυτών
16to remove thee far from the straight way, and to estrange thee from a righteous purpose. My son, let not evil counsel overtake thee,	του μακράν σε ποιήσαι από οδού ευθείας και αλλότριον της δικαίας γνώμης υιέ μη σε καταλάβη κακή βουλή
17of her who has forsaken the instruction of her youth, and forgotten the covenant of God.	η απολιπούσα διδασκαλίαν νεότητος και διαθήκην θείαν επιλελησμένη
18For she has fixed her house near death, and guided her wheels near Hades with the giants.	έθετο γαρ παρά τω θανάτω τον οίκον αυτής και παρά τω άδη μετά των γηγενών τους άξονας αυτής
19None that go by her shall return, neither shall they take hold of right paths, for they are not apprehended of the years of life.	πάντες οι παραπορευόμενοι εν αυτή ουκ αναστρέψουσιν ουδέ καταλάβωσι τρίβους ευθείας ου γαρ καταλαμβάνονται υπό ενιαυτών ζωής
20For had they gone in good paths, they would have found the paths of righteousness easy.	ει γαρ επορεύοντο τρίβους αγαθάς εύροσαν αν τρίβους δικαιοσύνης λείας χρηστοί έσονται οικήτορες γης άκακοι δε υπολειφθήσονται εν αυτή
21For the upright shall dwell in the earth, and the holy shall be left behind in it.	ότι ευθείς κατασκηνώσουσι γην και όσιοι υπολειφθήσονται εν αυτή
22The paths of the ungodly shall perish out of the earth, and transgressors shall be driven away from it.	οδοί δε ασεβών εκ γης ολούνται οι δε παράνομοι εξωσθήσονται απ΄ αυτής

Chapter 3

1My son, forget not my laws; but let thine heart keep my words:	υιέ εμών νομίμων μη επιλανθάνου τα δε ρήματά μου τηρείτω ση καρδία
2for length of existence, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to thee.	μήκος γαρ βίου και έτη ζωής και ειρήνην προσθήσουσί σοι
3Let not mercy and truth forsake thee; but bind them about thy neck:	ελεημοσύναι και πίστεις μη εκλειπέτωσαν σοι άφαψαι δε αυτάς επί σω τραχήλω γράψον αυτάς επί πλακός καρδίας σου
4so shalt thou find favour: and do thou provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.	και ευρήσεις χάριν και προνού καλά ενώπιον κυρίου και ανθρώπων
5Trust in God with all thine heart; and be not exalted in thine own wisdom.	ίσθι πεποιθώς εν όλη καρδία επί θεώ επί δε ση σοφία μη επαίρου
6In all thy ways acquaint thyself with her, that she may rightly direct thy paths.	εν πάσαις οδοίς σου γνώριζε αυτήν ίνα ορθοτομή τας οδούς σου
7Be not wise in thine own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.	μη ίσθι φρόνιμος παρά σεαυτώ φοβού δε τον θεόν και έκκλινε από παντός κακού
8Then shall there be health to thy body, and good keeping to thy bones.	τότε ίασις έσται τω σώματί σου και επιμέλεια τοις οστέοις σου
9Honour the Lord with thy just labours, and give him the first of thy fruits of righteousness:	τίμα τον κύριον από σων δικαίων πόνων και απάρχου αυτώ από σων καρπών δικαιοσύνης
10that thy storehouses may be completely filled with corn, and that thy presses may burst forth with wine.	ίνα πιμπλώνται τα ταμιεία σου πλησμονή σίτου οίνω δε αι ληνοί σου εκβλύζωσιν
11 My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:	υιέ μη ολιγώρει παιδείας κυρίου μηδέ εκλύου υπ΄ αυτού ελεγχόμενος
12for whom the Lord loves, he rebukes, and scourges every son whom he receives.	ον γαρ αγαπά κύριος παιδεύει μαστιγοί δε πάντα υιόν ον παραδέχεται
13Blessed is the man who has found wisdom, and the mortal who knows prudence.	μακάριος άνθρωπος ος εύρε σοφίαν και θνητός ος είδε φρόνησιν
14For it is better to traffic for her, than for treasures of gold and silver.	κρείσσον γαρ αυτήν εμπορεύεσθαι η χρυσίου και αργυρίου θησαυρούς
15And she is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her: she is well known to all that approach her, and no precious thing is equal to her in value.	τιμιωτέρα δε εστι λίθων πολυτελών παν δε τίμιον ουκ άξιον αυτής εστι
16For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.	μήκος γαρ βίου και έτη ζωής εν τη δεξιά αυτής εν δε τη αριστερά αυτής πλούτος και δόξα εκ του στόματος αυτής εκπορεύεται δικαιοσύνη νόμον δε και έλεον επί γλώσσης φορεί
17Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.	αι οδοί αυτής οδοί καλαί και πάσαι αι τρίβοι αυτής εν ειρήνη
18She is a tree of life to all that lay hold upon her; and she is a secure help to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.	ξύλον ζωής εστι πάσι τοις αντεχομένοις αυτής και τοις επερειδομένοις επ΄ αυτήν ως επί κύριον ασφαλής
19God by wisdom founded the earth, and by prudence he prepared the heavens.	ο θεός τη σοφία εθεμελίωσε την γην ητοίμασε δε ουρανούς εν φρονήσει
20By understanding were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.	εν αισθήσει αυτού άβυσσοι ερράγησαν νέφη δε ερρύησαν δρόσους
21My son, let them not pass from thee, but keep my counsel and understanding:	υιέ μη παραρρυής τήρησον δε εμήν βουλήν και έννοιαν
22that thy soul may live, and that there may be grace round thy neck; and it shall be health to thy flesh, and safety to thy bones:	ίνα ζήση η ψυχή σου και χάρις η περί σω τραχήλω εσται δε ίασις ταις σαρξί σου και επιμέλεια τοις σοις οστέοις
23that thou mayest go confidently in peace in all thy ways, and that thy foot may not stumble.	ίνα πορεύη πεποιθώς εν ειρήνη πάσας τας οδούς σου ο δε πους σου ου προσκόψη
24For if thou rest, thou shalt be undismayed; and if thou sleep, thou shalt slumber sweetly.	εάν γαρ κάθη άφοβος έση εάν δε καθεύδης ηδέως υπνώσεις
25And thou shalt not be afraid of alarm coming upon thee, neither of approaching attacks of ungodly men.	και ου φοβηθήση πτόησιν επελθούσαν ουδέ ορμάς ασεβών επερχομένας
26For the Lord shall be over all thy ways, and shall establish thy foot that thou be not moved.	ο γαρ κύριος έσται επί πασών οδών σου και ερείσει σον πόδα ίνα μη σαλευθής
27Forbear not to do good to the poor, whensoever thy hand may have power to help him.	μη απόσχη ευ ποιείν ενδεή ηνίκα αν έχη η χειρ σου βοηθείν
28Say not, Come back another time, to-morrow I will give; while thou art able to do him good: for thou knowest not what the next day will bring forth.	μη είπης επανελθών επάνηκε και αύριον δώσω δυνατού σου όντος ευ ποιείν ου γαρ οίδας τι τέξεται η επιούσα
29Devise not evil against thy friend, living near thee and trusting in thee.	μη τέκταινε επί σον φίλον κακά παροικούντα και πεποιθότα επί σοι
30Be not ready to quarrel with a man without a cause, lest he do thee some harm.	μη φιλεχθρήσης προς άνθρωπον μάτην ίνα μη εις σε εργάσηται κακόν
31Procure not the reproaches of bad men, neither do thou covet their ways.	μη κτήση κακών ανδρών ονείδη μηδέ ζηλώσης τας οδούς αυτών
32For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord; neither does he sit among the righteous.	ακάθαρτος γαρ έναντι κυρίου πας παράνομος εν δε δικαίοις ου συνεδριάζει
33The curse of God is in the houses of the ungodly; but the habitations of the just are blessed.	κατάρα κυρίου εν οίκοις ασεβών επαύλεις δε δικαίων ευλογούνται
34 The Lord resists the proud; but he gives grace to the humble.	κύριος υπερηφάνοις αντιτάσσεται ταπεινοίς δε δίδωσι χάριν
35The wise shall inherit glory; but the ungodly have exalted their own dishonour.	δόξαν σοφοί κληρονομήσουσιν οι δε ασεβείς ύψωσαν ατιμίαν

Chapter 4

1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding.	ακούσατε παίδες παιδείαν πατρός και προσέχετε γνώναι έννοιαν
2For I give you a good gift; forsake ye not my law.	δώρον γαρ αγαθόν δωρούμαι υμίν τον εμόν λόγον μη εγκαταλίπητε
3For I also was a son obedient to my father, and loved in the sight of my mother:	υιός γαρ εγενόμην καγώ πατρί υπήκοος και αγαπώμενος εν προσώπω μητρός
4who spoke and instructed me, saying, Let our speech be fixed in thine heart, keep our commandments, forget them not:	οι έλεγον και εδίδασκόν με ερειδέτω ο ημέτερος λόγος εις σην καρδίαν φύλασσε εντολάς μη επιλάθη
5and do not neglect the speech of my mouth.	κτήσαι σοφίαν κτήσαι σύνεσιν μη επιλάθη μηδέ παρίδης ρήσιν εμού στόματος μηδέ εκκλίνης από ρημάτων στόματός μου
6And forsake it not, and it shall cleave to thee: love it, and it shall keep thee.	μη εγκαταλίπης αυτήν και ανθέξεταί σου εράσθητι αυτής και τηρήσει σε
7 Secure it, and it shall exalt thee: honour it, that it may embrace thee;	αρχή σοφίας κτήσαι σοφίαν και εν πάση κτήσει σου κτήσαι σύνεσιν
8that it may give unto thy head a crown of graces, and may cover thee with a crown of delight.	περιχαράκωσον αυτήν και υψώσει σε τίμησον αυτήν ίνα σε περιλάβη
9Hear, my son, and receive my words; and the years of thy life shall be increased, that the resources of thy life may be many.	ίνα δω τη ση κεφαλή στέφανον χαρίτων στεφάνω δε τρυφής υπερασπίση σε
10For I teach thee the ways of wisdom; and I cause thee to go in right paths.	άκουε υιέ και δέξαι εμούς λόγους και πληθυνθήσεταί σοι έτη ζωής σου ίνα σοι γένωνται πολλαί οδοί βίου
11For when thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not be distressed.	οδούς γαρ σοφίας διδάσκω σε εμβιβάζω δε σε τροχιαίς ορθαίς
12Take hold of my instruction; let it not go, —but keep it for thyself for thy life.	εάν γαρ πορεύη ου συγκλεισθήσεταί σου τα διαβήματα εάν δε τρέχης ου κοπιάσεις
13Go not in the ways of the ungodly, neither covet the ways of transgressors.	επιλαβού εμής παιδείας μη αφής αλλά φύλαξον αυτήν σεαυτώ εις ζωήν σου
14In whatever place they shall pitch their camp, go not thither; but turn from them, and pass away.	οδούς ασεβών μη επέλθης μηδέ ζηλώσης οδούς παρανόμων
15For they cannot sleep, unless they have done evil: their sleep is taken away, and they rest not.	εν ω αν τόπω στρατοπεδεύσωσι μη επέλθης εκεί έκκλινον απ΄ αυτών και παράλλαξον
16For these live upon the bread of ungodliness, and are drunken with wine of transgression.	ου γαρ μη υπνώσωσιν εάν μη κακοποιήσωσιν αφήρηται ύπνος απ΄ αυτών και ου κοιμώνται
17But the ways of the righteous shine like light; they go on and shine, until the day be fully come.	οίδε γαρ σιτούνται σίτα ασεβείας οίνω δε παρανόμω μεθύσκονται
18But the ways of the ungodly are dark; they know not how they stumble.	αι δε οδοί των δικαίων ομοίως φωτί λάμπουσι προπορεύονται και φωτίζουσιν έως αν κατορθώση η ημέρα
19My son, attend to my speech; and apply thine ear to my words:	αι δε οδοί των ασεβών σκοτειναί ουκ οίδασι πως προσκόπτουσιν
20that thy fountains may not fail thee; keep them in thine heart.	υιέ εμή ρήσει πρόσεχε τοις δε εμοίς λόγοις παράβαλλε σον ους
21For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.	όπως μη εκλίπωσί σε αι πηγαί σου φύλασσε αυτάς εν ση καρδία
22Keep thine heart with the utmost care; for out of these are the issues of life.	ζωή γαρ εστι πάσι τοις ευρίσκουσιν αυτάς και πάση σαρκί ίασις
23Remove from thee a froward mouth, and put far away from thee unjust lips.	πάση φυλακή τήρει σην καρδίαν εκ γαρ τούτων έξοδοι ζωής
24Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids assent to just things.	περίελε σεαυτού σκολιόν στόμα και άδικα χείλη μακράν από σου άπωσαι
25Make straight paths for thy feet, and order thy ways aright.	οι οφθαλμοί σου ορθά βλεπέτωσαν τα δε βλέφαρά σου νευέτω δίκαια
26Turn not aside to the right hand nor to the left, but turn away thy foot from an evil way: for God knows the ways on the right hand, but those on the left are crooked: and he will make thy ways straight, and will guide thy steps in peace.	ορθάς τροχιάς ποίει σοις ποσί και τας οδούς σου κατεύθυνε
27	μη εκκλίνης εις τα δεξιά μηδέ εις τα αριστερά απόστρεψον δε σον πόδα από οδού κακής οδούς γαρ τας εκ δεξιών οίδεν ο θεός διεστραμμέναι δε εισιν αι εξ αριστερών αυτός δε ορθάς ποιήσει τας τροχιάς σου τας δε πορείας σου εν ειρήνη προάξει

Chapter 5

1My son, attend to my wisdom, and apply thine ear to my words;	υιέ εμή σοφία πρόσεχε εμοίς δε λόγοις παράβαλλε σον ους
2that thou mayest keep good understanding, and the discretion of my lips gives thee a charge. Give no heed to a worthless woman;	ίνα φυλάξης έννοιαν αγαθήν αίσθησιν δε εμών χειλέων εντέλλομαί σοι μη πρόσεχε φαύλη γυναικί
3for honey drops from the lips of a harlot, who for a season pleases thy palate:	μέλι γαρ αποστάζει από χειλέων γυναικός πόρνης η προς καιρόν λιπαίνει σον φάρυγγα
4but afterwards thou wilt find her more bitter than gall, and sharper than a two-edged sword.	ύστερον μέντοι πικρότερον χολής ευρήσεις και ηκονημένον μάλλον μαχαίρας διστόμου
5For the feet of folly lead those who deal with her down to the grave with death; and her steps are not established.	της γαρ αφροσύνης οι πόδες κατάγουσι τους χρωμένους αυτή μετά θανάτου εις τον άδην τα δε ίχνη αυτής ουκ ερείδεται
6For she goes not upon the paths of life; but her ways are slippery, and not easily known.	οδούς γαρ ζωής ουκ επέρχεται σφαλεραί δε αι τροχιαί αυτής και ουκ εύγνωστοι
7Now then, my son, hear me, and make not my words of none effect.	νυν ουν υιέ άκουέ μου και μη ακύρους ποιήσης εμούς λόγους
8Remove thy way far from her; draw not near to the doors of her house:	μακράν ποίησον απ΄ αυτής σην οδόν μη εγγίσης προς θύραις οίκων αυτής
9lest thou give away thy life to others, and thy substance to the merciless:	ίνα μη πρόη άλλοις ζωήν σου και σον βίον ανελεήμοσιν
10lest strangers be filled with thy strength, and thy labours come into the houses of strangers;	ίνα μη πλησθώσιν αλλότριοι σης ισχύος οι δε σοι πόνοι εις οίκους αλλοτρίους εισέλθωσι
11And thou repent at last, when the flesh of thy body is consumed,	και μεταμεληθήση επ΄ εσχάτων ηνίκα αν κατατριβώσι σάρκες σώματός σου
12and thou shalt say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart avoided reproofs!	και ερείς πως εμίσησα παιδείαν και ελέγχους εξέκλινεν η καρδία μου
13 I heard not the voice of him that instructed me, and taught me, neither did I apply mine ear.	ουκ ήκουον φωνήν παιδεύοντός με και διδάσκοντός με ουδέ παρέβαλλον το ους μου
14I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.	παρ΄ ολίγον εγενόμην εν παντί κακώ εν μέσω εκκλησίας και συναγωγής
15Drink waters out of thine own vessels, and out of thine own springing wells.	υιέ πίνε ύδατα από σων αγγείων και από σων φρεάτων πηγής
16Let not waters out of thy fountain be spilt by thee, but let thy waters go into thy streets.	υπερεκχείσθω σοι τα ύδατα εκ της σης πηγής εις δε σας πλατείας διαπορευέσθω τα σα ύδατα
17Let them be only thine own, and let no stranger partake with thee.	έστω σοι μόνω υπάρχοντα και μηδείς αλλότριος μετασχέτω σοι
18Let thy fountain of water be truly thine own; and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.	η πηγή σου του ύδατος έστω σοι ιδία και συνευφραίνου μετά γυναικός της εκ νεότητός σου
19Let thy loving hart and thy graceful colt company with thee, and let her be considered thine own, and be with thee at all times; for ravished with her love thou shalt be greatly increased.	έλαφος φιλίας και πώλός σου χαρίτων ομιλείτω σοι η δε ιδία ηγείσθω σου και συνέστω σοι εν παντί καιρώ εν γαρ τη ταύτης φιλία συμπεριφερόμενος πολλοστός έση
20Be not intimate with a strange woman, neither fold thyself in the arms of a woman not thine own.	μη πολύς ίσθι προς αλλοτρίαν μηδέ συνέχου αγκάλαις της μη ιδίας
21For the ways of a man are before the eyes of God, and he looks on all his paths.	ενώπιον γαρ εισι των του θεού οφθαλμών οδοί ανδρός εις δε πάσας τας τροχιάς αυτού σκοπεύει
22Iniquities ensnare a man, and every one is bound in the chains of his own sins.	παρανομίαι άνδρα αγρεύουσι σειραίς δε των εαυτού αμαρτιών έκαστος σφίγγεται
23Such a man dies with the uninstructed; and he is cast forth from the abundance of his own substance, and has perished through folly.	ούτος τελευτά μετά απαιδεύτων εκ δε πλήθους της εαυτού βιότητος εξερρίφη και απώλετο δι΄ αφροσύνην

Chapter 6

1My son, if thou become surety for thy friend, thou shalt deliver thine hand to an enemy.	υιέ εάν εγγυήση σον φίλον παραδώσεις σην χείρα εχθρώ
2For a man's own lips become a strong snare to him, and he is caught with the lips of his own mouth.	παγίς γαρ ισχυρά ανδρί τα ίδια χείλη και αλίσκεται ρήμασιν ιδίου στόματος
3My son, do what I command thee, and deliver thyself; for on thy friend's account thou art come into the power of evil men: faint not, but stir up even thy friend for whom thou art become surety.	ποίει υιέ α εγώ σοι εντέλλομαι και σώζου ήκεις γαρ εις χείρας κακών διά σον φίλον ίσθι μη εκλυόμενος παρόξυνε δε και τον φίλον σου ον εγεγγυήσω
4Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber with thine eyelids;	μη δως ύπνον σοις όμμασι μηδέ επινυστάξης σοις βλεφάροις
5that thou mayest deliver thyself as a doe out of the toils, and as a bird out of a snare.	ίνα σώζη ώσπερ δορκάς εκ βρόχων και ώσπερ όρνεον εκ παγίδος
6Go to the ant, O sluggard; and see, and emulate his ways, and become wiser than he.	ίθι προς τον μύρμηκα ω οκνηρέ και ζήλωσον ιδών τας οδούς αυτού και γενού εκείνου σοφώτερος
7For whereas he has no husbandry, nor any one to compel him, and is under no master,	εκείνω γαρ γεωργίου μη υπάρχοντος μηδέ τον αναγκάζοντα έχων μηδέ υπό δεσπότην ων
8he prepares food for himself in the summer, and lays by abundant store in harvest. Or go to the bee, and learn how diligent she is, and how earnestly she is engaged in her work; whose labours kings and private men use for health, and she is desired and respected by all: though weak in body, she is advanced by honouring wisdom.	ετοιμάζεται θέρους την τροφήν πολλήν τε εν τω αμητώ ποιείται την παράθεσιν
9How long wilt thou lie, O sluggard? and when wilt thou awake out of sleep?	έως τίνος οκνηρέ κατάκεισαι πότε δε εξ ύπνου εγερθήση
10Thou sleepest a little, and thou restest a little, and thou slumberest a short time, and thou foldest thine arms over thy breast a little.	ολίγον μεν υπνοίς ολίγον δε κάθησαι μικρόν δε νυστάζεις ολίγον δε εναγκαλίζη χερσί στήθη
11Then poverty comes upon thee as an evil traveller, and want as a swift courier: but if thou be diligent, thine harvest shall arrive as a fountain, and poverty shall flee away as a bad courier.	ειτ΄ εμπαραγίνεταί σοι ώσπερ κακός οδοιπόρος η πενία και η ένδεια ώσπερ αγαθός δρομεύς
12A foolish man and a transgressor goes in ways that are not good.	ανήρ άφρων και παράνομος πορεύσεται οδούς ουκ αγαθάς
13And the same winks with the eye, and makes a sign with his foot, and teaches with the beckonings of his fingers.	ο δε αυτός εννεύει οφθαλμώ σημαίνει δε ποδί διδάσκει δε νεύμασι δακτύλων
14His perverse heart devises evils: at all times such a one causes troubles to a city.	διεστραμμένη δε καρδία τεκταίνεται κακά εν παντί καιρώ ο τοιούτος ταραχάς συνίστησι πόλει
15Therefore his destruction shall come suddenly; overthrow and irretrievable ruin.	διά τούτο εξαπίνης έρχεται η απώλεια αυτού διακοπή και συντριβή ανίατος
16For he rejoices in all things which God hates, and he is ruined by reason of impurity of soul.	ότι χαίρει πάσιν οις μισεί ο κύριος συντρίβεται δε δι΄ ακαθαρσίαν ψυχής
17The eye of the haughty, a tongue unjust, hands shedding the blood of the just;	οφθαλμός υβριστού γλώσσα άδικος χείρες εκχέουσαι αίμα δίκαιον
18and a heart devising evil thoughts, and feet hastening to do evil, —are hateful to God.	και καρδία τεκταινομένη λογισμούς κακούς και πόδες επισπεύδοντες κακοποιείν
19An unjust witness kindles falsehoods, and brings on quarrels between brethren.	εκκαίει ψευδή μάρτυς άδικος και επιπέμπει κρίσεις αναμέσον αδελφών
20My son, keep the laws of thy father, and reject not the ordinances of thy mother:	υιέ φύλασσε νόμους πατρός σου και μη απώση θεσμούς μητρός σου
21but bind them upon thy soul continually, and hang them as a chain about thy neck.	άφαψαι δε αυτούς επί ση ψυχή διαπαντός και εγκλοίωσαι περί σω τραχήλω
22Whensoever thou walkest, lead this along and let it be with thee; that it may talk with thee when thou wakest.	ηνίκα αν περιπατής επάγου αυτήν και μετά σου έστω ως δ΄ αν καθεύδης φυλασσέτω σε ίνα εγειρομένω συλλαλή σοι
23For the commandment of the law is a lamp and a light; a way of life; reproof also and correction:	ότι λύχνος εντολή νόμου και φως και οδός ζωής και έλεγχος και παιδεία
24to keep thee continually from a married woman, and from the calumny of a strange tongue.	του διαφυλάσσειν σε από γυναικός υπάνδρου και από διαβολής γλώσσης αλλοτρίας
25Let not the desire of beauty overcome thee, neither be thou caught by thine eyes, neither be captivated with her eyelids.	υιέ μη σε νικήση κάλλους επιθυμία μηδέ αγρευθής σοις οφθαλμοίς μηδέ συναρπασθής από των αυτής βλεφάρων
26For the value of a harlot is as much as of one loaf; and a woman hunts for the precious souls of men.	τιμή γαρ πόρνης όση και ενός άρτου γυνή δε ανδρών τιμίας ψυχάς αγρεύει
27Shall any one bind fire in his bosom, and not burn his garments?	αποδήσει τις πυρ εν κόλπω τα δε ιμάτια ου κατακαύσει
28or will any one walk on coals of fire, and not burn his feet?	η περιπατήσει τις επ΄ ανθράκων πυρός τους δε πόδας ου κατακαύσει
29So is he that goes in to a married woman; he shall not be held guiltless, neither any one that touches her.	ούτως ο εισελθών προς γυναίκα ύπανδρον ουκ αθωωθήσεται ουδέ πας ο απτόμενος αυτής
30It is not to be wondered at if one should be taken stealing, for he steals that when hungry he may satisfy his soul:	ου θαυμαστόν εάν αλώ τις κλέπτων κλέπτει γαρ ίνα εμπλήση ψυχήν πεινώσαν
31but if he should be taken, he shall repay sevenfold, and shall deliver himself by giving all his goods.	εάν δε αλώ αποτίσει επταπλάσια και πάντα τα υπάρχοντα αυτού δους ρύσεταί εαυτόν
32But the adulterer through want of sense procures destruction to his soul.	ο δε μοιχός δι΄ ένδειαν φρενών απώλειαν τη ψυχή αυτού περιποιείται
33He endures both pain and disgrace, and his reproach shall never be wiped off.	οδύνας τε και ατιμίας υποφέρει το δε όνειδος αυτού ουκ εξαλειφθήσεται εις τον αιώνα
34For the soul of her husband is full of jealousy: he will not spare in the day of vengeance.	μεστός γαρ ζήλου θυμός ανδρός αυτής ου φείσεται εν ημέρα κρίσεως
35He will not forego his enmity for any ransom: neither will he be reconciled for many gifts.	ουκ ανταλλάξεται ουδενός λύτρου την έχθραν ουδέ διαλυθή πολλών δώρων

Chapter 7

1My son, keep my words, and hide with thee my commandments. My son, honour the Lord, and thou shalt be strong; and fear none but him:	υιέ φύλασσε εμούς λόγους τας δε εμάς εντολάς κρύψον παρά σεαυτώ
2keep my commandments, and thou shalt live; and keep my words as the pupils of thine eyes.	υιέ τίμα τον κύριον και ισχύσεις πλην δε αυτού μη φοβού άλλον φύλαξον εμάς εντολάς και βιώσεις τους δε εμούς λόγους ώσπερ κόρας ομμάτων
3And bind them on thy fingers, and write them on the table of thine heart.	περίθου αυτούς σοις δακτύλοις επίγραψον δε επί το πλάτος της καρδίας σου
4Say that wisdom is thy sister, and gain prudence as an acquaintance for thyself;	είπον την σοφίαν σην αδελφήν είναι την δε φρόνησιν γνώριμον περιποίησαι σεαυτώ
5that she may keep thee from the strange and wicked woman, if she should assail thee with flattering words.	ίνα σε τηρήση από γυναικός αλλοτρίας και πονηράς εάν σε λόγοις τοις προς χάριν εμβάλληται
6For she looks from a window out of her house into the streets, at one whom she may see of the senseless ones, a young man void of understanding,	από γαρ θυρίδος εκ του οίκου αυτής εις τας πλατείας παρακύπτουσα
7passing by the corner in the passages near her house,	ον αν ίδη των αφρόνων τέκνων νεανίαν ενδεή φρενών
8and speaking, in the dark of the evening,	παραπορευόμενον εν γωνία εν διόδοις οίκων αυτής λαλούντα
9when there happens to be the stillness of night and of darkness:	εν σκότει εσπερινώ ηνίκα αν ησυχία νυκτερινή η και γνοφώδης
10and the woman meets him having the appearance of a harlot, that causes the hearts of young men to flutter.	η δε γυνή συναντά αυτώ είδος έχουσα πορνικόν η ποιεί νέων εξίπτασθαι καρδίας
11And she is fickle, and debauched, and her feet abide not at home.	ανεπτερωμένη δε εστι και άσωτος εν οίκω δε ουχ ησυχάζουσιν οι πόδες αυτής
12For at one time she wanders without, and at another time she lies in wait in the streets, at every corner.	χρόνον γαρ τινα έξω ρέμβεται χρόνον δε εν πλατείαις παρά πάσαν γωνίαν ενεδρεύει
13Then she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said to him,	είτα επιλαβομένη εφίλησεν αυτόν αναιδεί δε προσώπω προσείπεν αυτώ
14I have a peace-offering; today I pay my vows:	θυσία ειρηνική μοι εστί σήμερον αποδίδωμι τας ευχάς μου
15therefore I came forth to meet thee, desiring thy face; and I have found thee.	ένεκα τούτου εξήλθον εις συνάντησίν σου ποθούσα το σον πρόσωπον εύρηκά σε
16I have spread my bed with sheets, and I have covered it with double tapestry from Egypt.	κειρίαις τέτακα την κλίνην μου αμφιτάποις διέστρωσα τοις απ΄ Αιγύπτου
17I have sprinkled my couch with saffron, and my house with cinnamon.	διέρραγκα την κοίτην μου κρόκω τον δε οίκόν μου κινναμώμω
18Come, and let us enjoy love until the morning; come, and let us embrace in love.	ελθέ και απολαύσωμεν φιλίας έως όρθρου δεύρο και εγκυλισθώμεν έρωτι
19For my husband is not at home, but is gone on a long journey,	ου γαρ πάρεστιν ο ανήρ μου εν οίκω πεπόρευται οδόν μακράν
20having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.	ένδεσμον αργυρίου λαβών εν χερσίν αυτού δι΄ ημερών πολλών επανήξει εις τον οίκον αυτού
21So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips forced him from the right path.	απεπλάνησε δε αυτόν πολλή ομιλία βρόχοις τε τοις από χειλέων εξώκειλεν αυτόν
22And he followed her, being gently led on, and that as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow:	ο δε επηκολούθησεν αυτή κεπφωθείς ωσπερ δε βους επί σφαγήν άγεται και ώσπερ κύων επί δεσμούς και ως έλαφος τοξεύματι
23and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for his life.	πεπληγώς εις το ήπαρ σπεύδει δε ώσπερ όρνεον εις παγίδα ουκ ειδώς ότι περί ψυχής τρέχει
24Now then, my son, hearken to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.	νυν ουν υιέ άκουέ μου και πρόσεχε ρήμασι στόματός μου
25Let not thine heart turn aside to her ways :	μη εκκλινάτω εις τας οδούς αυτής η καρδία σου και μη πλανηθής εν ατραποίς αυτής
26for she has wounded and cast down many, and those whom she has slain are innumerable.	πολλούς γαρ τρώσασα καταβέβληκε και αναρίθμητοί εισιν ους πεφόνευκεν
27Her house is the way of hell, leading down to the chambers of death.	οδοί άδου ο οίκος αυτής κατάγουσαι εις τα ταμιεία του θανάτου

Chapter 8

1Thou shalt proclaim wisdom, that understanding may be obedient to thee.	συ την σοφίαν κηρύξεις ίνα φρόνησίς σοι υπακούση
2For she is on lofty eminences, and stands in the midst of the ways.	επί γαρ των υψηλών άκρων εστίν αναμέσον δε των τρίβων έστηκε
3For she sits by the gates of princes, and sings in the entrances, saying,	παρά γαρ πύλαις δυναστών παρεδρεύει εν δε εισόδοις υμνείται
4You, O men, I exhort; and utter my voice to the sons of men.	υμάς ω άνθρωποι παρακαλώ και προϊεμαι εμήν φωνήν υιοίς ανθρώπων
5O ye simple, understand subtlety, and ye that are untaught, imbibe knowledge.	νοήσατε άκακοι πανουργίαν οι δε απαίδευτοι ένθεσθε καρδίαν
6Hearken to me; for I will speak solemn truths; and will produce right sayings from my lips.	εισακούσατέ μου σεμνά γαρ ερώ και ανοίσω από χειλέων ορθά
7For my throat shall meditate truth; and false lips are an abomination before me.	ότι αλήθειαν μελετήσει ο λάρυγξ μου εβδελυγμένα δε εναντίον εμού χείλη ψευδή
8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing in them wrong or perverse.	μετά δικαιοσύνης πάντα τα ρήματα του στόματός μου ουδέν εν αυτοίς σκολιόν ουδέ στραγγαλιώδες
9They are all evident to those that understand, and right to those that find knowledge.	πάντα ενώπια τοις συνιούσι και ορθά τοις ευρίσκουσι γνώσιν
10Receive instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than tried gold.	λάβετε παιδείαν και μη αργύριον και γνώσιν υπέρ χρυσίον δεδοκιμασμένον
11For wisdom is better than precious stones; and no valuable substance is of equal worth with it.	κρείσσων γαρ σοφία λίθων πολυτέλων παν δε τίμιον ουκ άξιον αυτής εστιν
12I wisdom have dwelt with counsel and knowledge, and I have called upon understanding.	εγώ η σοφία κατεσκήνωσα βουλήν και γνώσιν και έννοιαν εγώ επεκαλεσάμην
13The fear of the Lord hates unrighteousness, and insolence, and pride, and the ways of wicked men; and I hate the perverse ways of bad men.	φόβος κυρίου μισεί αδικίαν ύβριν τε και υπερηφανίαν και οδούς πονηρών μεμίσηκα δε εγώ διεστραμμένας οδούς κακών
14Counsel and safety are mine; prudence is mine, and strength is mine.	εμή βουλή και ασφάλεια εμή φρόνησις εμή δε ισχύς
15By me kings reign, and princes decree justice.	δι΄ εμού βασιλείς βασιλεύουσι και οι δυνάσται γράφουσι δικαιοσύνην
16By me nobles become great, and monarchs by me rule over the earth.	δι΄ εμού μεγιστάνες μεγαλύνονται και τύραννοι δι΄ εμού κρατούσι γης
17I love those that love me; and they that seek me shall find me.	εγώ τους εμέ φιλούντας αγαπώ οι δε εμέ ζητούντες ευρήσουσι χάριν
18Wealth and glory belong to me; yea, abundant possessions and righteousness.	πλούτος και δόξα εμοί υπάρχει και κτήσις πολλών και δικαιοσύνη
19It is better to have my fruit than to have gold and precious stones; and my produce is better than choice silver.	βέλτιον εμέ καρπίζεσθαι υπέρ χρυσίον και λίθον τίμιον τα δε εμά γεννήματα κρείσσον αργυρίου εκλεκτου
20I walk in ways of righteousness, and am conversant with the paths of judgment;	εν οδοίς δικαιοσύνης περιπατώ και αναμέσον τρίβων δικαιώματος αναστρέφομαι
21that I may divide substance to them that love me, and may fill their treasures with good things. If I declare to you the things that daily happen, I will remember also to recount the things of old.	ίνα μερίσω τοις εμέ αγαπώσιν ύπαρξιν και τους θησαυρούς αυτών εμπλήσω αγαθών εάν αναγγείλω υμίν τα καθ΄ ημέραν γινόμενα μνημονεύσω τα εξ αιώνος αριθμήσαι
22The Lord made me the beginning of his ways for his works.	κύριος έκτισέ με αρχήν οδών αυτού εις έργα αυτού
23He established me before time was in the beginning, before he made the earth:	προ του αιώνος εθεμελίωσέ με εν αρχή προ του την γην ποιήσαι
24even before he made the depths; before the fountains of water came forth:	και προ του τας αβύσσους ποιήσαι προ του προελθείν τας πηγάς των υδάτων
25before the mountains were settled, and before all hills, he begets me.	προ του όρη εδρασθήναι προ δε πάντων βουνών γεννά με
26The Lord made countries and uninhabited tracks, and the highest inhabited parts of the world.	κύριος εποίησε χώρας και αοικήτους και άκρα οικούμενα της υπ΄ ουρανών
27When he prepared the heaven, I was present with him; and when he prepared his throne upon the winds:	ηνίκα ητοίμαζε τον ουρανόν συμπαρήμην αυτώ και ότε αφώριζε τον εαυτού θρόνον επ΄ ανέμων
28and when he strengthened the clouds above; and when he secured the fountains of the earth:	ηνίκα ισχυρά εποίει τα άνω νέφη και ως ασφαλείς ετίθει πηγάς της υπ΄ ουρανόν
29 decree. and when he strengthened the foundations of the earth:	εν τω τιθέναι τη θαλάσση ακριβασμόν αυτού και ύδατα ου παρελεύσονται στόματος αυτού και ως ισχυρά εποίει τα θεμέλια της γης
30I was by him, suiting myself to him, I was that wherein he took delight; and daily I rejoiced in his presence continually.	ήμην παρ΄ αυτώ αρμόζουσα εγώ ήμην η προσέχαιρε καθ΄ ημέραν δε ευφραινόμην εν προσώπω αυτού εν παντί καιρώ
31For he rejoiced when he had completed the world, and rejoiced among the children of men.	ότε ενευφραίνετο την οικουμένην συντέλεσας και ενευφραίνετο εν υιοίς ανθρώπων
32Now then, my son, hear me: blessed is the man who shall hearken to me, and the mortal who shall keep my ways;	νυν ουν υιέ άκουέ μου και μακάριοι οι οδούς μου φυλάσσοντες
33 Hear wisdom and be wise, and be not strangers to it.	ακούσατε σοφίαν και σοφίσθητε και μη αποσφραγήτε μακάριος ανήρ ος εισακούσεταί μου και άνθρωπος ος τας εμάς οδούς φυλάξει
34watching daily at my doors, waiting at the posts of my entrances.	αγρυπνών επ΄ εμαίς θύραις καθ΄ ημέραν τηρών σταθμούς εμών εισόδων
35For my outgoings are the outgoings of life, and in them is prepared favour from the Lord.	αι γαρ έξοδοί μου έξοδοι ζωής και ετοιμάζεται θέλησις παρά κυρίου
36But they that sin against me act wickedly against their own souls: and they that hate me love death.	οι δε αμαρτάνοντες εις εμέ ασεβούσιν εις τας εαυτών ψυχάς και οι μισούντές με αγαπώσι θάνατον

Chapter 9

1Wisdom has built a house for herself, and set up seven pillars.	η σοφία ωκοδόμησεν εαυτή οίκον και υπήρεισε στύλους επτά
2She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine in a bowl, and prepared her table.	έσφαξε τα εαυτής θύματα εκέρασεν εις κρατήρα τον εαυτής οίνον και ητοιμάσατο την εαυτής τράπεζαν
3She has sent forth her servants, calling with a loud proclamation to the feast, saying,	απέστειλε τους εαυτής δούλους συγκαλούσα μετά υψηλού κηρύγματος επί κρατήρα λέγουσα
4Whoso is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says,	ος εστιν άφρων εκκλινάτω προς με και τοις ενδεέσι φρενών είπεν
5Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you.	έλθατε φάγετε των εμών άρτών και πίετε οίνον ον εκέρασα υμίν
6Leave folly, that ye may reign for ever; and seek wisdom, and improve understanding by knowledge.	απολείπετε αφροσύνην και ζήσεσθε και ζητήσατε φρόνησιν ίνα βιώσητε και κατορθώσατε εν γνώσει σύνεσιν
7He that reproves evil men shall get dishonour to himself; and he that rebukes an ungodly man shall disgrace himself.	ο παιδεύων κακούς λήψεται εαυτώ ατιμίαν ελέγχων δε τον ασεβή μωμήσεται εαυτόν
8Rebuke not evil men, lest they should hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.	μη έλεγχε κακους ίνα μη μισήσωσί σε έλεγχε σοφόν και αγαπήσει σε
9Give an opportunity to a wise man, and he will be wiser: instruct a just man, and he will receive more instruction.	δίδου σοφώ αφορμήν και σοφώτερος έσται γνώριζε δικαίω και προσθήσει του δέχεσθαι
10The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the counsel of saints is understanding: for to know the law is the character of a sound mind.	αρχή σοφίας φόβος κυρίου και βουλή αγίων σύνεσις το γαρ γνώναι νόμον διανοίας εστίν αγαθής
11For in this way thou shalt live long, and years of thy life shall be added to thee.	τούτω γαρ τω τρόπω πολύν ζήσεις χρόνον και προστεθήσεταί σοι έτη ζωής
12Son, if thou be wise for thyself, thou shalt also be wise for thy neighbours; and if thou shouldest prove wicked, thou alone wilt bear the evil. He that stays himself upon falsehoods, attempts to rule the winds, and the same will pursue birds in their fight: for he has forsaken the ways of his own vineyard, and he has caused the axles of his own husbandry to go astray; and he goes through a dry desert, and a land appointed to drought, and he gathers barrenness with his hands.	υιέ εάν σοφός γένη σεαυτώ σοφός έση εάν δε κακός αποβής μόνος αν αντλήσεις κακά
13A foolish and bold woman, who knows not modesty, comes to want a morsel.	γυνή άφρων και θρασεία ενδεής ψωμού γίνεται η ουκ επίσταται αισχύνην
14She sits at the doors of her house, on a seat openly in the streets,	εκάθισεν επί θύραις του εαυτής οίκου επί δίφρου εμφανώς εν πλατείαις
15calling to passers by, and to those that are going right on their ways;	προσκαλουμένη τους παριόντας οδόν και κατευθύνοντας εν ταις οδοίς αυτών
16saying, Whoso is most senseless of you, let him turn aside to me; and I exhort those that want prudence, saying,	ος εστιν υμών αφρονέστατος εκκλινάτω προς με και τοις ενδεέσι φρονήσεως παρακελεύομαι λέγουσα
17Take and enjoy secret bread, and the sweet water of theft.	άρτων κρυφίων ηδέως άψασθε και ύδατος κλοπής γλυκερού πίετε
18But he knows that mighty men die by her, and he falls in with a snare of hell. But hasten away, delay not in the place, neither fix thine eye upon her: for thus shalt thou go through strange water; but do thou abstain from strange water, and drink not of a strange fountain, that thou mayest live long, and years of life may be added to thee.	ο δε ουκ οίδεν ότι γηγενείς παρ΄ αυτή όλλυνται και επί πέταυρον άδου συναντά

Chapter 10

1A wise son makes his father glad: but a foolish son is a grief to his mother.	υιός σοφός ευφραίνει πατέρα υιός δε άφρων λύπη τη μητρί
2Treasures shall not profit the lawless: but righteousness shall deliver from death.	ουκ ωφελήσουσι θησαυροί ανόμους δικαιοσύνη δε ρύσεται εκ θανάτου
3The Lord will not famish a righteous soul: but he will overthrow the life of the ungodly.	ου λιμοκτονήσει κύριος ψυχήν δικαίαν ζωήν δε ασεβών ανατρέψει
4Poverty brings a man low: but the hands of the vigorous make rich. A son who is instructed shall be wise, and shall use the fool for a servant.	πενία άνδρα ταπεινοί χείρες δε ανδρείων πλουτίζουσιν υιός πεπαιδευμένος σοφός έσται τω δε άφρονι διακόνω χρήσεται
5A wise son is saved from heat: but a lawless son is blighted of the winds in harvest.	διεσώθη από καύματος υιός νοήμων ανεμόφθορος δε γίνεται εν αμητώ υιός παράνομος
6The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the just: but untimely grief shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.	ευλογιά κυρίου επί κεφαλήν δικαίου στόμα δε ασεβών καλύψει πένθος άωρον
7The memory of the just is praised; but the name of the ungodly man is extinguished.	μνήμη δικαίου μετ΄ εγκωμίου όνομα δε ασεβούς σβέννυται
8A wise man in heart will receive commandments; but he that is unguarded in his lips shall be overthrown in his perverseness.	σοφός καρδία δέξεται εντολάς ο δε άστεγος χείλεσι σκολιάζων υποσκελισθήσεται
9He that walks simply, walks confidently; but he that perverts his ways shall be known.	ος πορεύεται απλώς πορεύεται πεποιθώς ο δε διαστρέφων τας οδούς αυτού γνωσθήσεται
10He that winks with his eyes deceitfully, procures griefs for men; but he that reproves boldly is a peacemaker.	ο εννεύων οφθαλμόν μετά δόλου συνάγει ανδράσι λύπας ο δε ελέγχων μετά παρρησίας ειρηνοποιεί
11There is a fountain of life in the hand of a righteous man; but destruction shall cover the mouth of the ungodly.	πηγή ζωής εν χειρί δικαίου στόμα δε ασεβούς καλύψει απώλεια
12Hatred stirs up strife; but affection covers all that do not love strife.	μίσος εγειρεί νείκος πάντας δε τους μη φιλονεικούντας καλύπψει φιλία
13He that brings forth wisdom from his lips smites the fool with a rod.	ος εκ χειλέων προφέρει σοφίαν ράβδω τύπτει άνδρα ακάρδιον
14The wise will hide discretion; but the mouth of the hasty draws near to ruin.	σοφοί κρύψουσιν αίσθησιν στόμα δε προπετούς εγγίζει συντριβή
15The wealth of rich men is a strong city; but poverty is the ruin of the ungodly.	κτήσις πλουσίων πόλις οχυρά συντριβή δε ασεβών πενία
16The works of the righteous produce life; but the fruits of the ungodly produce sins.	έργα δικαίων ζωήν ποιεί καρπός δε ασεβών αμαρτίας
17Instruction keeps the right ways of life; but instruction unchastened goes astray.	οδούς ζωής φυλάσσει παιδεία παιδεία δε ανεξέλεγκτος πλανάται
18Righteous lips cover enmity; but they that utter railings are most foolish.	καλύπτουσιν έχθραν χείλη δίκαια οι δε εκφέροντες λοιδορίας αφρονέστατοί εισιν
19By a multitude of words thou shalt not escape sin; but if thou refrain thy lips thou wilt be prudent.	εκ πολυλογίας ουκ εκφεύξη αμαρτίαν φειδόμενος δε χειλέων νοήμων έση
20The tongue of the just is tried silver; but the heart of the ungodly shall fail.	άργυρος πεπυρωμένος γλώσσα δικαίου καρδία δε ασεβούς εκλείψει
21The lips of the righteous know sublime truths: but the foolish die in want.	χείλη δικαίων επίσταται υψηλά οι δε άφρονες εν ενδεία τελευτώσιν
22The blessing of the Lord is upon the head of the righteous; it enriches him, and grief of heart shall not be added to it.	ευλογία κυρίου επί κεφαλήν δικαίου αύτη πλουτίζει και ου προστεθή αυτή λύπη εν καρδία
23A fool does mischief in sport; but wisdom brings forth prudence for a man.	εν γέλωτι άφρων πράσσει κακά η δε σοφία ανδρί τίκτει φρόνησιν
24The ungodly is engulphed in destruction; but the desire of the righteous is acceptable.	εν απωλεία ασεβής περιφέρεται επιθυμία δε δικαίου δεκτή
25When the storm passes by, the ungodly vanishes away; but the righteous turns aside and escapes for ever.	παραπορευομένης καταιγίδος αφανίζεται ο ασεβής δίκαιος δε εκκλίνας σώζεται εις τον αιώνα
26As a sour grape is hurtful to the teeth, and smoke to the eyes, so iniquity hurts those that practise it.	ώσπερ όμφαξ οδούσι βλαβερόν και καπνός όμμασιν ούτως παρανομία τοις χρωμένοις αυτή
27The fear of the Lord adds length of days: but the years of the ungodly shall be shortened.	φόβος κυρίου προστίθησιν ημέρας έτη δε ασεβών ολιγωθήσεται
28Joy rests long with the righteous: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.	εγχρονίζει δικαίοις ευφροσύνη ελπίς δε ασεβών όλλυται
29The fear of the Lord is a strong hold of the saints: but ruin comes to them that work wickedness.	οχύρωμα οσίου φόβος κυρίου συντριβή δε τοις εργαζομένοις κακά
30The righteous shall never fail: but the ungodly shall not dwell in the earth.	δίκαιος εις τον αιώνα ουκ ενδώσει ασεβείς δε ουκ οικήσουσι γην
31The mouth of the righteous drops wisdom: but the tongue of the unjust shall perish.	στόμα δικαίου αποστάζει σοφίαν γλώσσα δε αδίκου εξολείται
32The lips of just men drop grace: but the mouth of the ungodly is perverse.	χείλη ανδρών δικαίων αποστάζει χάριτας στόμα δε ασεβών αποστρέφεται

Chapter 11

1False balances are an abomination before the Lord: but a just weight is acceptable unto him.	ζυγοί δόλιοι βδέλυγμα ενώπιον κυρίου στάθμιον δε δίκαιον δεκτόν αυτώ
2Wherever pride enters, there will be also disgrace: but the mouth of the lowly meditates wisdom.	ου εάν εισέλθη ύβρις εκεί και ατιμία στόμα δε ταπεινών μελετά σοφίαν
3 When a just man dies he leaves regret: but the destruction of the ungodly is speedy, and causes joy.	αποθανών δίκαιος έλιπε μετάμελον πρόχειρος δε γίνεται και επίχαρτος ασεβών απώλεια
4 Possessions will not profit in a day of wrath, but righteousness will deliver from death.	τελειότης ευθειών οδηγήσει αυτούς και υποσκελισμός αθετούντων προνομεύσει αυτούς ουκ ωφελήσει υπάρχοντα εν ημέρα θυμού και δικαιοσύνη ρύσεται από θανάτου
5Righteousness traces out blameless paths: but ungodliness encounters unjust dealing.	δικαιοσύνη αμώμου ορθοτομει οδούς ασέβεια δε περιπίπτει αδικία
6The righteousness of upright men delivers them: but transgressors are caught in their own destruction.	δικαιοσύνη ανδρών ορθών ρύσεται αυτούς τη δε αβουλία αλίσκονται παράνομοι
7At the death of a just man his hope does not perish: but the boast of the ungodly perishes.	τελευτήσαντος ανδρός δικαίου ουκ όλλυται ελπίς το δε καύχημα των ασεβών όλλυται
8A righteous man escapes from a snare, and the ungodly man is delivered up in his place.	δίκαιος εκ θήρας εκδύνει αντ΄ αυτού δε παραδίδοται ο ασεβής
9In the mouth of ungodly men is a snare to citizens: but the understanding of righteous men is prosperous.	εν στόματι ασεβών παγίς πολίταις αίσθησις δε δικαίων εύοδος
10In the prosperity of righteous men a city prospers: but by the mouth of ungodly men it is overthrown.	εν αγαθοίς δικαίων κατώρθωσε πόλις και εν απωλεία ασεβών αγαλλίαμα
11 At the blessing of the upright a city shall be exalted.	εν ευλογία ευθείων υψωθήσεται πόλις στόμασι δε ασεβών κατεσκαφήσεται
12A man void of understanding sneers at his fellow citizens: but a sensible man is quiet.	μυκτηρίζει πολίτας ενδεής φρενών ανήρ δε φρόνιμος ησυχίαν άγει
13A double-tongued man discloses the secret counsels of an assembly: but he that is faithful in spirit conceals matters.	ανήρ δίγλωσσος αποκαλύπτει βουλάς εν συνεδρίω πιστός δε πνοή κρύπτει πράγματα
14They that have no guidance fall like leaves: but in much counsel there is safety.	οις μη υπάρχει κυβέρνησις πίπτουσιν ώσπερ φύλλα σωτηρία δε υπάρχει εν πολλή βουλή
15A bad man does harm wherever he meets a just man: and he hates the sound of safety.	πονηρός κακοποιεί όταν συμμίξη δικαίω μισεί δε ήχον ασφαλείας
16A gracious wife brings glory to her husband: but a woman hating righteousness is a theme of dishonour. The slothful come to want: but the diligent support themselves with wealth.	γυνή ευχάριστος εγείρει ανδρί δόξαν θρόνος δε ατιμίας γυνή μισούσα δίκαια πλούτου οκνηροί ενδεείς γίνονται οι δε ανδρείοι ερείδονται πλούτω
17A merciful man does good to his own soul: but the merciless destroys his own body.	τη ψυχή αυτού αγαθόν ποιεί ανήρ ελεήμων εξολλύει δε αυτού σώμα ο ανελεήμων
18An ungodly man performs unrighteous works: but the seed of the righteous is a reward of truth.	ασεβής ποιεί έργα άδικα σπέρμα δε δικαίων μισθός αληθείας
19A righteous son is born for life: but the persecution of the ungodly ends in death.	υιός δίκαιος γεννάται εις ζωήν διωγμός δε ασεβούς εις θάνατον
20Perverse ways are an abomination to the Lord: but all they that are blameless in their ways are acceptable to him.	βδέλυγμα κυρίω διεστραμμέναι οδοί προσδεκτοί δε αυτώ πάντες άμωμοι εν οδώ
21He that unjustly strikes hands shall not be unpunished: but he that sows righteousness he shall receive a faithful reward.	χειρί χείρας εμβαλών αδίκως ουκ ατιμώρητος έσται κακών ο δε σπείρων δικαιοσύνην λήψεται μισθόν πιστόν
22As an ornament in a swine's snout, so is beauty to an ill-minded women.	ώσπερ ενώτιον χρυσούν εν ρινί υός ούτω γυναικί κακόφρονι κάλλος
23All the desire of the righteous is good: but the hope of the ungodly shall perish.	επιθυμία δικαίων πάσα αγαθή ελπίς δε ασεβών απολείται
24There are some who scatter their own, and make it more: and there are some also who gather, yet have less.	εισίν οι τα ίδια σπείροντες πλείονα ποιούσιν εισί δε και οι συνάγοντες ελαττονούνται
25Every sincere soul is blessed: but a passionate man is not graceful.	ψυχή ευλογουμένη πάσα απλή ανήρ δε θυμώδης ουκ ευσχήμων
26May he that hoards corn leave it to the nation: but blessing be on the head of him that gives it.	ο συνέχων σίτον υπολείποιτο αυτόν τοις έθνεσιν ευλογία δε εις κεφαλήν του μεταδιδόντος
27He that devises good counsels seeks good favour: but as for him that seeks after evil, evil shall overtake him.	τεκταινόμενος αγαθά ζητεί χάριν αγαθήν εκζητούντα δε κακά καταλήψεται αυτόν
28He that trusts in wealth shall fall; but he that helps righteous men shall rise.	ο πεποιθώς επί πλούτω εαυτού ούτος πεσείται ο δε αντιλαμβανόμενος δικαίων ανατελεί
29He that deals not graciously with his own house shall inherit the wind; and the fool shall be servant to the wise man.	ο μη συμπεριφερόμενος τω εαυτού οίκω κληρονομήσει άνεμον δουλεύσει δε άφρων φρονίμω
30Out of the fruit of righteousness grows a tree of life; but the souls of transgressors are cut off before their time.	εκ καρπού δικαιοσύνης φύεται δένδρον ζωής αφαιρούνται δε άωροι ψυχαί παρανόμων
31 If the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?	ει ο μεν δίκαιος μόλις σώζεται ο ασεβής και αμαρτωλός που φανείται

Chapter 12

1He that loves instruction loves sense, but he that hates reproofs is a fool.	ο αγαπών παιδείαν αγαπά αίσθησιν ο δε μισών ελέγχους άφρων
2 He that has found favour with the Lord is made better; but a transgressor shall be passed over in silence.	κρείσσων ο ευρών χάριν παρά κυρίω ανήρ δε παράνομος παρασιωπηθήσεται
3A man shall not prosper by wickedness; but the roots of the righteous shall not be taken up.	ου κατορθώσει άνθρωπος εξ ανόμου αι δε ρίζαι των δικαίων ουκ εξαρθήσονται
4A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; but as a worm in wood, so a bad woman destroys her husband.	γυνή ανδρεία στέφανος τω ανδρί αυτής ώσπερ δε εν ξύλω σκώληξ ούτως άνδρα απόλλυσι γυνή κακοποιός
5The thoughts of the righteous are true judgments; but ungodly men devise deceits.	λογισμοί δικαίων κρίματα κυβερνώσι δε ασεβείς δόλους
6The words of ungodly men are crafty; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.	λόγοι ασεβών δόλιοι εις αίμα στόμα δε ορθών ρύσεται αυτούς
7When the ungodly is overthrown, he vanishes away; but the houses of the just remain.	ου εάν στραφή ο ασεβής αφανίζεται οίκοι δε δικαίων παραμενούσι
8The mouth of an understanding man is praised by a man; but he that is dull of heart is had in derision.	στόμα συνετού εγκωμιάζεται υπό ανδρός νωθροκάρδιος δε μυκτηρίζεται
9Better is a man in dishonour serving himself, than one honouring himself and wanting bread.	κρείσσων ανήρ εν ατιμία δουλεύων εαυτώ η τιμήν εαυτώ περιτιθείς και προσδεόμενος άρτου
10A righteous man has pity for the lives of his cattle; but the bowels of the ungodly are unmerciful.	δίκαιος οικτείρει ψυχάς κτηνών αυτού τα δε σπλάγχνα των ασεβών ανελεήμονα
11He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread; but they that pursue vanities are void of understanding. He that enjoys himself in banquets of wine, shall leave dishonour in his own strong holds.	ο εργαζόμενος την εαυτού γην εμπλησθήσεται άρτων οι δε διώκοντες μάταια ενδεείς φρενών ος εστιν ηδύς εν οίνων διατριβαίς εν τοις εαυτού οχυρώμασι καταλείψει ατιμίαν
12The desires of the ungodly are evil; but the roots of the godly are firmly set.	επιθυμίαι ασεβών κακαί αι δε ρίζαι των ευσεβών εν οχυρώμασι
13For the sin of his lips a sinner falls into snare; but a righteous man escapes from them. He whose looks are gentle shall be pitied, but he that contends in the gates will afflict souls.	διά αμαρτίαν χειλέων εμπίπτει εις παγίδας αμαρτωλός εκφεύγει δε εξ αυτών δίκαιος
14The soul of a man shall be filled with good from the fruits of his mouth; and the recompence of his lips shall be given to him.	από καρπών στόματος ψυχή ανδρός πλησθήσεται αγαθών ανταπόδομα δε χειλέων αυτού αποδοθήσεται αυτώ
15The ways of fools are right in their own eyes; but a wise man hearkens to counsels.	οδοί αφρόνων ορθαί ενώπιον αυτών εισακούει δε συμβουλίας σοφός
16A fool declares his wrath the same day; but a prudent man hides his own disgrace.	άφρων αυθήμερον εξαγγέλλει οργήν αυτού κρύπτει δε την εαυτού ατιμίαν πανούργος
17A righteous man declares the open truth; but an unjust witness is deceitful.	επιδεικνυμένην πίστιν απαγγέλλει δίκαιος ο δε μάρτυς των αδίκων δόλιος
18Some wound as they speak, like swords; but the tongues of the wise heal.	εισίν οι λέγοντες τιτρώσκουσιν ως μάχαιρα γλώσσαι δε σοφών ιώνται
19True lips establish testimony; but a hasty witness has an unjust tongue.	χείλη αληθινά κατορθοί μαρτυρίαν μάρτυς δε ταχύς γλώσσαν έχει άδικον
20There is deceit in the heart of him that imagines evil; but they that love peace shall rejoice.	δόλος εν καρδία τεκταινομένου κακά οι δε βουλόμενοι ειρήνην ευφρανθήσονται
21No injustice will please a just man; but the ungodly will be filled with mischief.	ουκ αρέσει τω δικαίω ουδέν άδικον οι δε ασεβείς πλησθήσονται κακών
22Lying lips are a abomination to the Lord; but he that deals faithfully is accepted with him.	βδέλυγμα κυρίω χείλη ψευδή ο δε ποιών πίστεις δεκτός παρ΄ αυτώ
23An understanding man is a throne of wisdom; but the heart of fools shall meet with curses.	ανήρ συνετός θρόνος αισθήσεως καρδία δε αφρόνων συναντήσεται αραίς
24The hand of chosen men shall easily obtain rule; but the deceitful shall be for a prey.	χειρ εκλεκτών κρατήσει ευχερώς δόλιοι δε έσονται εις προνομήν
25A terrible word troubles the heart of a righteous man; but a good message rejoices him.	φοβερός λόγος καρδίαν ταράσσει ανδρός αγγελία δε αγαθή ευφραίνει αυτόν
26A just arbitrator shall be his own friend; but mischief shall pursue sinners; and the way of ungodly men shall lead them astray.	επιγνώμων δίκαιος εαυτού φίλος έσται αμαρτάνοντας δε καταδιώξεται κακά η δε οδός των ασεβών πλανήσει αυτούς
27A deceitful man shall catch no game; but a blameless man is a precious possession.	ουκ επιτεύξεται δόλιος θήρας κτήμα δε τίμιον ανήρ καθαρός
28In the ways of righteousness is life; but the ways of those that remember injuries lead to death.	εν οδοίς δικαιοσύνης ζωή οδοί δε μνησικάκων εις θάνατον

Chapter 13

1A wise son is obedient to his father: but a disobedient son will be destroyed.	υιός πανούργος υπήκοος πατρί υιός δε ανήκοος εν απωλεία
2A good man shall eat of the fruits of righteousness: but the lives of transgressors shall perish before their time.	από καρπών δικαιοσύνης φάγεται αγαθός ψυχαί δε παρανόμων ολούνται άωροι
3He that keeps his own mouth keeps his own life: but he that is hasty with his lips shall bring terror upon himself.	ος φυλάσσει το εαυτού στόμα τηρεί την εαυτού ψυχήν ο δε προπετής χείλεσι πτοήσει εαυτόν
4Every slothful man desires, but the hands of the active are diligent.	εν επιθυμίαις εστί πας αεργός χείρες δε ανδρείων εν επιμελεία
5A righteous man hates an unjust word: but an ungodly man is ashamed, and will have no confidence.	λόγον άδικον μισεί δίκαιος ασεβής δε αισχύνεται και ουκ έξει παρρησίαν
6There are some who, having nothing, enrich themselves: and there are some who bring themselves down in the midst of much wealth.	δικαιοσύνη φυλάσσει ακάκους οδώ τους δε ασεβείς φαύλους ποιεί αμαρτία
7A man's own wealth is the ransom of his life: but the poor endures not threatening.	εισίν οι πλουτίζοντες εαυτούς μηδέν έχοντες και εισίν οι ταπεινούντες εαυτούς εν πολλώ πλούτω
8The righteous always have light: but the light of the ungodly is quenched. Crafty souls go astray in sins: but just men pity, and are merciful.	λύτρον ανδρός ψυχής ο ίδιος πλούτος πτωχός δε ουχ υφίσταται απειλήν
9A bad man does evil with insolence: but they that are judges of themselves are wise.	φως δικαίοις διαπαντός φως ασεβών σβέννυται
10Wealth gotten hastily with iniquity is diminished: but he that gathers for himself with godliness shall be increased. The righteous is merciful, and lends.	κακός μεθ΄ ύβρεως πράσσει κακά οι δε αυτών επιγνώμονες σοφοί
11Better is he that begins to help heartily, than he that promises and leads another to hope: for a good desire is a tree of life.	ύπαρξις επισπουδαζομένη μετά ανομίας ελάσσων γίνεται ο δε συνάγων εαυτώ μετ΄ ευσεβείας πληθυνθήσεται δίκαιος οικτείρει και κιχρά
12He that slights a matter shall be slighted of it: but he that fears the commandment has health of soul. To a crafty son there shall be nothing good: but a wise servant shall have prosperous doings, and his way shall be directed aright.	κρείσσων εναρχόμενος βοηθών καρδία του επαγγελλομένου και εις ελπίδα άγοντος δένδρον γαρ ζωής επιθυμία αγαθή
13The law of the wise is fountain of life: but the man void of understanding shall die by a snare.	ος καταφρονεί πράγματος καταφρονηθήσεται εξ αυτού ο δε φοβούμενος εντολήν ούτος υγιαίνει υιώ δολίω ουδέν έσται αγαθόν οικέτη δε σοφώ εύοδοι έσονται πράξεις και κατευθυνθήσεται η οδός αυτού
14Sound discretion gives favour, and to know the law is the part of a sound understanding: but the ways of scorners tend to destruction.	νόμος σοφού πηγή ζωής ο δε ανούς υπό παγίδος θανείται
15Every prudent man acts with knowledge: but the fool displays his own mischief.	σύνεσις αγαθή δίδωσι χάριν το δε γνώναι νόμον διανοίας εστίν αγαθής οδοί δε καταφρονούντων εν απωλεία
16A rash king shall fall into mischief: but a wise messenger shall deliver him.	πας πανούργος πράσσει μετά γνώσεως ο δε άφρων εξεπέτασεν εαυτού κακίαν
17Instruction removes poverty and disgrace: but he that attends to reproofs shall be honoured.	βασιλεύς θρασύς πεσείται εις κακά άγγελος δε σοφός ρύσεται αυτόν
18The desires of the godly gladden the soul, but the works of the ungodly are far from knowledge.	πενίαν και ατιμίαν αφαιρείται παιδεία ο δε φυλάσσων ελέγχους δοξασθήσεται
19If thou walkest with wise men thou shalt be wise: but he that walks with fools shall be known.	επιθυμίαι ασεβών ηδύνουσι ψυχήν έργα δε ασεβών μακράν από γνώσεως
20Evil shall pursue sinners; but good shall overtake the righteous.	συμπορευόμενος σοφοίς σοφος εση ο δε συμπορευόμενος άφροσι γνωσθήσεται
21A good man shall inherit children's children; and the wealth of ungodly men is laid up for the just.	αμαρτάνοντας καταδιώξεται κακά τους δε δικαίους καταλήψεται αγαθά
22The righteous shall spend many years in wealth: but the unrighteous shall perish suddenly.	αγαθός ανήρ κληρονομήσει υιούς υιών θησαυρίζεται δε δικαίοις πλούτος ασεβών
23He that spares the rod hates his son: but he that loves, carefully chastens him.	δίκαιοι ποιήσουσιν εν πλούτω έτη πολλά άδικοι δε απολούνται συντόμως
24A just man eats and satisfies his soul: but the souls of the ungodly are in want.	ος φείδεται της βακτηρίας μισεί τον υιόν αυτού ο δε αγαπών επιμελώς παιδεύει
25	δίκαιος έσθων εμπιπλάται την ψυχήν αυτού ψυχαί δε ασεβών ενδεείς

Chapter 14

1Wise women build houses: but a foolish one digs hers down with her hands.	σοφαί γυναίκες ωκοδόμησαν οίκους η δε άφρων κατέσκαψε ταις χερσίν αυτής
2He that walks uprightly fears the Lord; but he that is perverse in his ways shall be dishonoured.	ο πορευόμενος ορθώς φοβείται τον κύριον ο δε σκολιάζων ταις οδοίς αυτού ατιμασθήσεται
3Out of the mouth of fools comes a rod of pride; but the lips of the wise preserve them.	εκ στόματος αφρόνων βακτηρία ύβρεως χείλη δε σοφών φυλάσσει αυτούς
4Where no oxen are, the cribs are clean; but where there is abundant produce, the strength of the ox is apparent.	ου μη εισί βόες φάτναι καθαραί ου δε πολλά γεννήματα φανερά βοός ισχύς
5A faithful witness does not lie; but an unjust witness kindles falsehoods.	μάρτυς πιστός ου ψεύδεται εκκαίει δε ψευδή μάρτυς άδικος
6Thou shalt seek wisdom with bad men, and shalt not find it; but discretion is easily available with the prudent.	ζητήσεις σοφίαν παρά κακοίς και ουχ ευρήσεις αίσθησις δε παρά φρονίμοις ευχερής
7All things are adverse to a foolish man; but wise lips are the weapons of discretion.	πάντα εναντία ανδρί άφρονι όπλα δε αισθήσεως χείλη σοφά
8The wisdom of the prudent will understand their ways; but the folly of fools leads astray.	σοφία πανούργων επιγνώσεται τας οδούς αυτών άνοια δε αφρόνων εν πλάνη
9The houses of transgressors will need purification; but the houses of the just are acceptable.	οικίαι παρανόμων οφειλήσουσι καθαρισμόν οικίαι δε δικαίων δεκταί
10If a man's mind is intelligent, his soul is sorrowful; and when he rejoices, he has no fellowship with pride.	καρδία ανδρός αισθητική λυπηρά ψυχή αυτού όταν δε ευφραίνηται ουκ επιμίγνυται ύβρει
11The houses of ungodly men shall be utterly destroyed; but the tabernacles of them that walk uprightly shall stand.	οικίαι ασεβών αφανισθήσονται σκηναί δε κατορθούντων στήσονται
12There is a way which seems to be right with men, but the ends of it reach to the depths of hell.	έστιν οδός η δοκεί ορθή είναι παρά ανθρώποις τα δε τελευταία αυτής έρχεται εις πυθμένα άδου
13Grief mingles not with mirth; and joy in the end comes to grief.	εν ευφροσύναις ου προσμίγνυται λύπη τελευταία δε χαράς εις πένθος έρχεται
14A stout-hearted man shall be filled with his own ways; and a good man with his own thoughts.	των εαυτού οδών πλησθήσεται θρασυκάρδιος από δε των διανοημάτων αυτού ανήρ αγαθός
15The simple believes every word: but the prudent man betakes himself to after-thought.	άκακος πιστεύει παντί λόγω πανούργος δε έρχεται εις μετάνοιαν
16A wise man fears, and departs from evil; but the fool trusts in himself, and joins himself with the transgressor.	σοφός φοβηθείς εξέκλινεν από κακού ο δε άφρων εαυτώ πεποιθώς μίγνυται ανόμω
17A passionate man acts inconsiderately; but a sensible man bears up under many things.	οξύθυμος πράσσει μετά αβουλίας ανήρ δε φρόνιμος πολλά υποφέρει
18Fools shall have mischief for their portion; but the prudent shall take fast hold of understanding.	μεριούνται άφρονες κακίαν οι δε πανούργοι κρατήσουσιν αισθήσεως
19Evil men shall fall before the good; and the ungodly shall attend at the gates of the righteous.	ολισθήσουσι κακοί έναντι αγαθών και ασεβείς θεραπεύσουσι θύρας δικαίων
20Friends will hate poor friends; but the friends of the rich are many.	φίλοι μισήσουσι φίλους πτωχούς φίλοι δε πλουσίων πολλοί
21He that dishonours the needy sins: but he that has pity on the poor is most blessed.	ο ατιμάζων πένητας αμαρτάνει ελεών δε πτωχούς μακαριστός
22They that go astray devise evils: but the good devise mercy and truth. The framers of evil do not understand mercy and truth: but compassion and faithfulness are with the framers of good.	πλανώμενοι τεκταίνουσι κακά έλεον δε και αλήθειαν τεκταίνουσιν αγαθοί ουκ επίστανται έλεον και πίστιν τέκτονες κακών ελεημοσύναι δε και πίστεις παρά τέκτοσιν αγαθοίς
23With every one who is careful there is abundance: but the pleasure-taking and indolent shall be in want.	εν παντί μεριμνώντι ένεστι περισσόν ο δε ηδύς και ανάλγητος εν ενδεία έσται
24A prudent man is the crown of the wise: but the occupation of fools is evil.	στέφανος σοφών πλούτος αυτών η δε διατριβή αφρόνων κακή
25A faithful witness shall deliver a soul from evil: but a deceitful man kindles falsehoods.	ρύσεται κακών ψυχήν μάρτυς πιστός εκκαίει δε ψευδή δόλιος
26In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence: and he leaves his children a support.	εν φόβω κυρίου ελπίς ισχύος τοις δε τέκνοις αυτού καταλείπει έρεισμα
27The commandment of the Lord is a fountain of life; and it causes men to turn aside from the snare of death.	πρόσταγμα κυρίου πηγή ζωής ποιεί δε εκκλίνειν εκ παγίδος θανάτου
28In a populous nation is the glory of a king: but in the failure of people is the ruin of a prince.	εν πολλώ έθνει δόξα βασιλέως εν δε εκλείψει λαού συντριβή δυνάστου
29A man slow to wrath abounds in wisdom: but a man of impatient spirit is very foolish.	μακρόθυμος ανήρ πολύς εν φρονήσει ο δε ολιγόψυχος ισχυρώς άφρων
30A meek-spirited man is a healer of the heart: but a sensitive heart is a corruption of the bones.	πραύθυμος ανήρ καρδίας ιατρός σης δε οστέων καρδία αισθητική
31He that oppresses the needy provokes his Maker: but he that honours him has pity upon the poor.	ο συκοφαντών πένητα παροξύνει τον ποιήσαντα αυτόν ο δε τιμών αυτόν ελεεί πτωχόν
32The ungodly shall be driven away in his wickedness: but he who is secure in his own holiness is just.	εν κακία αυτού απωσθήσεται ασεβής ο πεποιθώς τη εαυτού οσιότητι δίκαιος
33There is wisdom in the good heart of a man: but in the heart of fools it is not discerned.	εν καρδία αγαθή ανδρός αναπαύσεται σοφία εν δε καρδία αφρόνων ου διαγινώσκεται
34Righteousness exalts a nation: but sins diminish tribes.	δικαιοσύνη υψοί έθνος ελασσονούσι δε φυλάς αμαρτίαι
35An understanding servant is acceptable to a king; and by his good behaviour he removes disgrace.	δεκτός βασιλεί υπηρέτης νοήμων τη δε εαυτού ευστροφία αφαιρείται ατιμίαν

Chapter 15

1Anger slays even wise men; yet a submissive answer turns away wrath: but a grievous word stirs up anger.	οργή απόλλυσι και φρονίμους απόκρισις δε υποπίπτουσα αποστρέφει θυμόν λόγος δε λυπηρός εγείρει οργάς
2The tongue of the wise knows what is good: but the mouth of the foolish tells out evil things.	γλώσσα σοφών καλά επίσταται στόμα δε αφρόνων αναγγέλλει κακά
3The eyes of the Lord behold both the evil and the good in every place.	εν παντί τόπω οφθαλμοί κυρίου σκοπεύουσι κακούς τε και αγαθούς
4 The wholesome tongue is a tree of life, and he that keeps it shall be filled with understanding.	ίασις γλώσσης δένδρον ζωής ο δε συντηρών αυτήν πλησθήσεται πνεύματος
5A fool scorns his father's instruction; but he that keeps his commandments is more prudent. In abounding righteousness is great strength: but the ungodly shall utterly perish from the earth.	άφρων μυκτηρίζει παιδείαν πατρός ο δε φυλάσσων εντολάς πανουργότερος εν πλεοναζούση δικαιοσύνη ισχύς πολλή οι δε ασεβείς ολόρριζοι εκ γης απολούνται
6In the houses of the righteous is much strength: but the fruits of the ungodly shall perish.	οίκοις δικαίων ισχύς πολλή καρποί δε ασεβών ολούνται
7The lips of the wise are bound by discretion: but the hearts of the foolish are not safe.	χείλη σοφών δέδεται αισθήσει καρδίαι δε αφρόνων ουκ ασφαλείς
8The sacrifices of the ungodly are an abomination to the Lord; but the prayers of them that walk honestly are acceptable with him.	θυσίαι ασεβών βδέλυγμα κυρίω ευχαί δε κατευθυνόντων δεκταί παρ΄ αυτώ
9The ways of an ungodly man are an abomination to the Lord; but he loves those that follow after righteousness.	βδέλυγμα κυρίω οδοί ασεβούς διώκοντας δικαιοσύνην αγαπά
10The instruction of the simple is known by them that pass by; but they that hate reproofs die disgracefully.	παιδεία ακάκου γνωρίζεται υπό των παριόντων οι δε μισούντες ελέγχους τελευτώσιν αισχρώς
11Hell and destruction are manifest to the Lord; how shall not also be the hearts of men?	άδης και απώλεια φανερά παρά κυρίω πως ουχί και αι καρδίαι των ανθρώπων
12An uninstructed person will not love those that reprove him; neither will he associate with the wise.	ουκ αγαπήσει απαίδευτος τους ελέγχοντας αυτόν μετά δε σοφών ουχ ομιλήσει
13When the heart rejoices the countenance is cheerful; but when it is in sorrow, the countenance is sad.	καρδίας ευφραινομένης πρόσωπον θάλλει εν δε λύπαις ούσης σκυθρωπάζει
14An upright heart seeks discretion; but the mouth of the uninstructed will experience evils.	καρδία ορθή ζητεί αίσθησιν στόμα απαιδεύτων γνώσεται κακά
15The eyes of the wicked are always looking for evil things; but the good are always quiet.	πάντα τον χρόνον οι οφθαλμοί των κακών προσδέχονται κακά οι δε αγαθοί ησυχάζουσι διαπαντός
16Better is a small portion with the fear of the Lord, than great treasures without the fear of the Lord.	κρείσσον μικρά μερίς μετά φόβου κυρίου η θησαυροί μεγάλοι μετά αφοβίας
17Better is an entertainment of herbs with friendliness and kindness, than a feast of calves, with enmity.	κρείσσων ξενισμός λαχάνων προς φιλίαν και χάριν η παράθεσις μόσχων μετά έχθρας
18A passionate man stirs up strife; but he that is slow to anger appeases even a rising one. A man slow to anger will extinguish quarrels; but an ungodly man rather stirs them up.	ανήρ θυμώδης παρασκευάζει μάχας μακρόθυμος δε και την μέλλουσαν καταπραύνει μακρόθυμος ανήρ κατασβέσει κρίσεις ο δε ασεβής εγείρει μάλλον
19The ways of sluggards are strewn with thorns; but those of the diligent are made smooth.	οδοί αεργών εστρωμέναι ακάνθαις αι δε των ανδρείων τετριμμέναι
20A wise son gladdens his father; but a foolish son sneers at his mother.	υιός σοφός ευφραίνει πατέρα υιός δε άφρων μυκτηρίζει μητέρα αυτού
21The ways of a foolish man are void of sense; but a wise man proceeds on his way aright.	ανοήτου τρίβοι ενδεείς φρενών ανήρ δε φρόνιμος κατευθύνων πορεύεται
22They that honour not councils put off deliberation; but counsel abides in the hearts of counsellors.	υπερτίθενται λογισμούς οι μη τιμώντες συνέδρια εν δε καρδίαις βουλευομένων μένει βουλή
23A bad man will by no means attend to counsel; neither will he say anything seasonable, or good for the common weal.	ου υπακούση ο κακός αυτή ουδε είπη καίριόν τι και καλόν τω κοινώ
24The thoughts of the wise are ways of life, that he may turn aside and escape from hell.	οδοί ζωής διανοήματα συνετού ίνα εκκλίνας εκ του άδου σωθή
25The Lord pulls down the houses of scorners; but he establishes the border of the widow.	οίκους υβριστών κατασπά κύριος εστήρισε δε όριον χήρας
26An unrighteous thought is abomination to the Lord; but the sayings of the pure are held in honour.	βδέλυγμα κυρίω λογισμός άδικος αγνών δε ρήσεις σεμναί
27A receiver of bribes destroys himself; but he that hates the receiving of bribes is safe. By alms and by faithful dealings sins are purged away; but by the fear of the Lord every one departs from evil.	εξόλλυσιν εαυτόν ο δωρολήπτης ο δε μισών δώρων λήψεις σώζεται ελεημοσύναις και πίστεσιν αποκαθαίρονται αμαρτίαι τω δε φόβω κυρίου εκκλίνει πας από κακού
28The hearts of the righteous meditate faithfulness; but the mouth of the ungodly answers evil things. The ways of righteous men are acceptable with the Lord; and through them even enemies become friends.	καρδίαι δικαίων μελετώσι πίστεις στόμα δε ασεβών αποκρίνεται κακά δεκταί παρά κυρίω οδοί ανδρών δικαίων διά δε αυτών και οι εχθροί φίλοι γίνονται
29God is far from the ungodly; but he hearkens to the prayers of the righteous. Better are small receipts with righteousness, than abundant fruits with unrighteousness. Let the heart of a man think justly, that his steps may be rightly ordered of God. The eye that sees rightly rejoices the heart; and a good report fattens the bones.	μακράν απέχει ο θεός από ασεβών ευχαίς δε δικαίων επακούει κρείσσων ολίγη λήψις μετά δικαιοσύνης η πολλά γεννήματα μετά αδικίας
30He that rejects instruction hates himself; but he that mind reproofs loves his soul.	θεωρών οφθαλμός καλά ευφραίνει καρδίαν φήμη δε αγαθή πιαίνει οστά
31The fear of the Lord is instruction and wisdom; and the highest honour will correspond therewith.	ο εισάκουων ελέγχους ζωής εν μεσω σοφών αυλισθησέται
32	ος απωθείται παιδείαν μισεί εαυτόν ο δε τηρών ελέγχους αγαπά ψυχήν αυτού
33	φόβος κυρίου παιδεία και σοφία και αρχή δόξης αποκριθήσεται αυτή προπορεύεται δε ταπεινοίς δόξα

Chapter 16

1All the works of the humble man are manifest with God; but the ungodly shall perish in an evil day.	καρδία ανδρός λογιζέσθω δίκαια ίνα υπό του θεού διορθωθή τα διαβήματα αυτού πάντα τα έργα του ταπεινού φανερά παρά τω θεώ οι δε ασεβείς εν ημέρα κακή ολούνται
2Every one that is proud in heart is unclean before God, and he that unjustly strikes hands with hand shall not be held guiltless. The beginning of a good way is to do justly; and it is more acceptable with God than to offer sacrifices. He that seeks the Lord shall find knowledge with righteousness: and they that rightly seek him shall find peace. All of the works of the Lord are done with righteousness; and the ungodly man is kept for the evil day.	ακάθαρτος παρά θεώ πας υψηλοκάρδιος χειρί δε χείρας εμβαλών αδίκως ουκ αθωωθήσεται αρχή οδού αγαθής το ποιείν τα δίκαια δεκτά δε παρά θεώ μάλλον η θύειν θυσίας ο ζητών τον κύριον ευρήσει γνώσιν μετά δικαιοσύνης οι δε ορθώς ζητούντες αυτόν ευρήσουσιν ειρήνην πάντα τα έργα του κυρίου μετά δικαιοσύνης φυλάσσεται δε ο ασεβής εις ημέραν κακήν
3There is an oracle upon the lips of a king; and his mouth shall not err in judgment.	μαντείον επί χείλεσι βασιλέως εν δε κρίσει ου πλανηθή το στόμα αυτού
4The poise of the balance is righteousness with the Lord; and his works are righteous measures.	ροπή ζυγού δικαιοσύνη παρά θεώ τα δε έργα αυτού στάθμια δίκαια
5An evil-doer is an abomination to a king; for the throne of rule is established by righteousness.	βδέλυγμα βασιλεί ο ποιών κακά μετά γαρ δικαιοσύνης ετοιμάζεται θρόνος αρχής
6Righteous lips are acceptable to a king; and he loves right words.	δεκτά βασιλεί χείλη δίκαια λόγους δε ορθούς αγαπά ο κύριος
7The anger of a king is a messenger of death; but a wise man will pacify him.	θυμός βασιλέως άγγελος θανάτου ανήρ δε σοφός εξιλάσεται αυτόν
8The son of a king is in the light of life; and they that are in favour with him are as a cloud of latter rain.	εν φωτί ζωής υιός βασιλέως οι δε προσδεκτοί αυτώ ώσπερ νέφος όψιμον
9The brood of wisdom is more to be chosen than gold, and the brood of prudence more to be chosen than silver.	νοσσιαί σοφίας αιρετώτεραι χρυσίου νοσσιαί δε φρονήσεως αιρετώτεραι υπέρ αργύριον
10The paths of life turn aside from evil; and the ways of righteousness are length of life. He that receives instruction shall be in prosperity; and he that regards reproofs shall be made wise. He that keeps his ways, preserves his own soul; and he that loves his life will spare his mouth.	τρίβοι ζωής εκκλίνουσιν από κακών μήκος δε βίου οδοί δικαιοσύνης ο δεχόμενος παιδείαν εν αγαθοίς έσται ο δε φυλάσσων ελέγχους σοφισθήσεται ος φυλάσσει τας εαυτού οδούς τηρεί την εαυτού ψυχήν αγαπών δε ζωήν αυτού φείσεται στόματος αυτού
11Pride goes before destruction, and folly before a fall.	προ συντριβής ηγείται ύβρις προ δε πτώματος κακοφροσύνη
12Better is a meek-spirited man with lowliness, than one who divides spoils with the proud.	κρείσσων πραύθυμος μετά ταπεινώσεως η ος διαιρείται σκύλα μετά υβριστών
13He who is skillful in business finds good: but he that trusts in God is most blessed.	συνετός εν πράγμασιν ευρετής αγαθών πεποιθώς δε επί θεώ μακαριστός
14Men call the wise and understanding evil: but they that are pleasing in speech shall hear more.	τους σοφούς και συνετούς φαύλους καλούσιν οι δε γλυκείς εν λόγω πλείονα ακούσονται
15Understanding is a fountain of life to its possessors; but the instruction of fools is evil.	πηγή ζωής έννοια τοις κεκτημένοις παιδεία δε αφρόνων κακή
16The heart of the wise will discern the things which proceed from his own mouth; and on his lips he will wear knowledge.	καρδία σοφού νοήσει τα από του ιδίου στόματος επί δε χείλεσι φορέσει επιγνωμοσύνην
17Good words are honeycombs, and the sweetness thereof is a healing of the soul.	κηρία μέλιτος λόγοι καλοί γλύκασμα δε αυτών ίασις ψυχής
18There are ways that seem to be right to a man, but the end of them looks to the depth of hell.	εισίν οδοί δοκούσαι ορθαί είναι ανδρί τα μέντοι τελευταία αυτών βλέπει εις πυθμένα άδου
19A man who labours, labours for himself, and drives from him his own ruin.	ανήρ εν πόνοις πονεί εαυτώ και εκβιάζεται αυτού την απώλειαν
20But the perverse bears destruction upon his own mouth: a foolish man digs up evil for himself, and treasures fire on his own lips.	ο μέντοι σκολιός επί τω εαυτού στόματι φορεί την απώλειαν ανήρ άφρων ορύσσει εαυτώ κακά επί δε των εαυτού χειλέων θησαυρίζει πυρ
21A perverse man spreads mischief, and will kindle a torch of deceit with mischiefs; and he separates friends.	ανήρ σκολιός διαπέμπεται κακά και λαμπτήρα δόλου πυρσεύσει κακοίς και διαχωρίζει φίλους
22A transgressor tries to ensnare friends, and leads them in ways that are not good.	ανήρ παράνομος αποπειράται φίλων και απάγει αυτούς οδούς ουκ αγαθάς
23And the man that fixes his eyes devises perverse things, and marks out with his lips all evil: he is a furnace of wickedness.	στηρίζων οφθαλμούς αυτού λογίζεται διεστραμμένα ορίζει δε τοις χείλεσιν αυτού πάντα τα κακά ούτος κάμινός εστι κακίας
24Old age is a crown of honour, but it is found in the ways of righteousness.	στέφανος καυχήσεως γήρας εν δε οδοίς δικαιοσύνης ευρίσκεται
25A man slow to anger is better than a strong man; and he that governs his temper better than he that takes a city.	κρείσσων ανήρ μακρόθυμος ισχυρού και ανήρ φρόνησιν έχων γεωργίου μεγάλου ο δε κρατών οργής κρείσσων καταλαμβανομένου πόλιν
26All evils come upon the ungodly into their bosoms; but all righteous things come of the Lord.	εις κόλπους επέρχεται πάντα τοις αδικοις παρά δε κυρίου πάντα τα δίκαια

Chapter 17

1Better is a morsel with pleasure in peace, than a house full of many good things and unjust sacrifices, with strife.	κρείσσων ψωμός μεθ΄ ηδονής εν ειρήνη η οίκος πλήρης πολλών αγαθών και αδίκων θυμάτων μετά μάχης
2A wise servant shall have rule over foolish masters, and shall divide portions among brethren.	οικέτης νοήμων κρατήσει δεσποτών αφρόνων εν δε αδελφοίς διελείται μέρη
3As silver and gold are tried in a furnace, so are choice hearts with the Lord.	ώσπερ δοκιμάζεται εν καμίνω άργυρος και χρυσός ούτως εκλεκταί καρδίαι παρά κυρίω
4A bad man hearkens to the tongue of transgressors: but a righteous man attends not to false lips.	κακός υπακούει γλώσσης παρανόμων άδικος δε προσέχει χείλεσι ψεύδεσιν
5He that laughs at the poor provokes him that made him; and he that rejoices at the destruction of another shall not be held guiltless: but he that has compassion shall find mercy.	ο καταγελών πτωχού παροξύνει τον ποιήσαντα αυτόν ο δε επιχαίρων απολλυμένω ουκ αθωωθήσεται ο δε επισπλαγχνιζόμενος ελεηθήσεται
6Children's children are the crown of old men; and their fathers are the glory of children. The faithful has the whole world full of wealth; but the faithless not even a farthing.	στέφανος γερόντων τέκνα τέκνων καύχημα δε τέκνων πατέρες αυτών του πιστού όλος ο κόσμος των χρημάτων του δε απίστου ουδέ οβολός
7Faithful lips will not suit a fool; nor lying lips a just man.	ουχ αρμόσει άφρονι χείλη πιστά ουδέ δικαίω χείλη ψευδή
8Instruction is to them that use it a gracious reward; and whithersoever it may turn, it shall prosper.	μισθός χαρίτων παιδεία τοις χρωμένοις ου δ΄ αν επιστρέψη ευοδωθήσεται
9He that conceals injuries seeks love; but he that hates to hide them separates friends and kindred.	ος κρύπτει αδικήματα ζητεί φιλίαν ος δε μισεί κρύπτειν διϊστησι φίλους και οικείους
10A threat breaks down the heart of a wise man; but a fool, though scourged, understands not.	συντρίβει απειλή καρδίαν φρονίμου άφρων δε μαστιγωθείς ουκ αισθάνεται
11Every bad man stirs up strifes: but the Lord will send out against him an unmerciful messenger.	αντιλογίας εγείρει πας κακός ο δε κύριος άγγελον ανελεήμονα εκπέμψει αυτώ
12Care may befall a man of understanding; but fools will meditate evils.	εμπεσείται μέριμνα ανδρί νοήμονι οι δε άφρονες διαλογιούνται κακά
13Whoso rewards evil for good, evil shall not be removed from his house.	ος αποδίδωσι κακά αντί αγαθών ου κινηθήσεται κακά εκ του οίκου αυτού
14Rightful rule gives power to words; but sedition and strife precede poverty.	εξουσίαν δίδωσι λόγοις αρχή δικαιοσύνης προηγείται δε της ενδείας στάσις και μάχη
15He that pronounces the unjust just, and the just unjust, is unclean and abominable with God.	ος δίκαιον κρίνει τον άδικον άδικον δε τον δίκαιον ακάθαρτος και βδελυκτός παρά θεώ
16Why has the fool wealth? for a senseless man will not be able to purchase wisdom. He that exalts his own house seeks ruin; and he that turns aside from instruction shall fall into mischief.	ινατί υπήρξε χρήματα άφρονι κτήσασθαι γαρ σοφίαν ακάρδιος ου δυνήσεται ος υψηλόν ποιεί τον εαυτού οίκον ζητεί συντριβήν ο δε σκολιάζων του μαθείν εμπεσείται εις κακά
17Have thou a friend for every time, and let brethren be useful in distress; for on this account are they born.	εις πάντα καιρόν ο φίλος υπαρχέτω σοι αδελφοί εν ανάγκαις χρήσιμοι έστωσαν τούτου γαρ χάριν γεννώνται
18A foolish man applauds and rejoices over himself, as he also that becomes surety would make himself responsible for his own friends.	ανήρ άφρων επικροτεί και επιχαίρει εαυτώ ως και ο εγγυώμενος εγγύη τον εαυτού φίλον
19A lover of sin rejoices in strifes;	φιλαμαρτήμων χαίρει μάχαις
20and the hard-hearted man comes not in for good. A man of a changeful tongue will fall into mischiefs;	ο δε σκληροκάρδιος ου συναντά αγαθοίς ανήρ ευμετάβολος γλώσση εμπεσείται εις κακά
21and the heart of a fool is grief to its possessor. A father rejoices not over an uninstructed son; but a wise son gladdens his mother.	καρδία δε άφρονος οδύνη τω κεκτημένω αυτήν ουκ ευφραίνεται πατήρ εφ΄ υιώ απαιδεύτω υιός δε φρόνιμος ευφραίνει μητέρα αυτού
22A glad heart promotes health; but the bones of a sorrowful man dry up.	καρδία ευφραινομένη ευεκτείν ποιεί ανδρός δε λυπηρού ξηραίνεται τα οστά
23The ways of a man who unjustly receives gifts in his bosom do not prosper; and an ungodly man perverts the ways of righteousness.	λαμβάνοντος δώρα εν κόλποις αδίκως ου κατευοδούνται αι οδοί ασεβής δε εκκλίνει οδούς δικαιοσύνης
24The countenance of a wise man is sensible; but the eyes of a fool go to the ends of the earth.	πρόσωπον συνετόν ανδρός σοφού οι δε οφθαλμοί του άφρονος επ΄ άκρα γης
25A foolish son is a cause of anger to his father, and grief to her that bore him.	οργή πατρί υιός άφρων και οδύνη τη τεκούση αυτού
26It is not right to punish a righteous man, nor is it holy to plot against righteous princes.	ζημιούν άνδρα δίκαιον ου καλόν ουδέ όσιον επιβούλευειν δυνάσταις δικαίοις
27He that forbears to utter a hard word is discreet, and a patient man is wise.	ος φείδεται ρήμα προέσθαι σκληρόν επιγνώμων μακρόθυμος δε ανήρ φρόνιμος
28Wisdom shall be imputed to a fool who asks after wisdom: and he who holds his peace shall seem to be sensible.	ανοήτω επερωτήσαντι σοφία λογισθήσεται ενεόν δε τις εαυτόν ποιήσας δόξει φρόνιμος είναι

Chapter 18

1A man who wishes to separate from friends seeks excuses; but at all times he will be liable to reproach.	προφάσεις ζητεί ανήρ βουλόμενος χωρίζεσθαι από φίλων εν παντί δε καιρώ επονείδιστος έσται
2A senseless man feels no need of wisdom, for he is rather led by folly.	ου χρείαν έχει σοφίας ενδεής φρενών μάλλον γαρ άγεται αφροσύνη
3When an ungodly man comes into a depth of evils, he despises them; but dishonour and reproach come upon him.	όταν έλθη ασεβής εις βάθος κακών καταφρονεί επέρχεται δε αυτώ ατιμία και όνειδος
4A word in the heart of a man is a deep water, and a river and fountain of life spring forth.	ύδωρ βαθύ λόγος εν καρδία ανδρός ποταμός δε αναπηδύει και πηγή ζωής
5It is not good to accept the person of the ungodly, nor is it holy to pervert justice in judgment.	θαυμάσαι πρόσωπον ασεβούς ου καλόν ουδέ όσιον εκκλίνειν το δίκαιον εν κρίσει
6The lips of a fool bring him into troubles, and his bold mouth calls for death.	χείλη άφρονος άγουσιν αυτόν εις κακά το δε στόμα αυτού το θρασύ θάνατον επικαλείται
7A fool's mouth is ruin to him, and his lips are a snare to his soul.	στόμα άφρονος συντριβή αυτώ τα δε χείλη αυτού παγίς τη ψυχή αυτού
8Fear casts down the slothful; and the souls of the effeminate shall hunger.	οκνηρούς καταβάλλει φόβος ψυχαί δε ανδρογύνων πεινάσουσιν
9A man who helps not himself by his labour is brother of him that ruins himself.	ο μη ιώμενος εαυτόν εν τοις έργοις αυτού αδελφός εστι του λυμαινομένου εαυτόν
10The name of the Lord is of great strength; and the righteous running to it are exalted.	εκ μεγαλωσύνης ισχύος όνομα κυρίου αυτώ δε προσδραμόντες δίκαιοι υψούνται
11The wealth of a rich man is a strong city; and its glory casts a broad shadow.	ύπαρξις πλουσίου ανδρός πόλις οχυρά η δε δόξα αυτής μέγα επισκιάζει
12Before ruin a man's heart is exalted, and before honour it is humble.	προ συντριβής υψούται καρδία ανδρός και προ δόξης ταπεινούται
13Whoso answers a word before he hears a cause, it is folly and reproach to him.	ος αποκρίνεται λόγον πριν ακούσαι αφροσύνη αυτώ εστι και όνειδος
14A wise servant calms a man's anger; but who can endure a faint-hearted man?	θυμόν ανδρός πραϋνει θεράπων φρόνιμος ολιγόψυχον δε άνδρα τις υποίσει
15The heart of the sensible man purchases discretion; and the ears of the wise seek understanding.	καρδία φρονίμου κτάται αίσθησιν ώτα δε σοφών ζητεί έννοιαν
16A man's gift enlarges him, and seats him among princes.	δόμα ανθρώπου εμπλατύνει αυτόν και παρά δυνάσταις καθιζάνει αυτόν
17A righteous man accuses himself at the beginning of his speech, but when he has entered upon the attack, the adversary is reproved.	δίκαιος εαυτού κατήγορος εν πρωτολογία ως δ΄ αν επιβάλη ο αντίδικος ελέγχεται
18A silent man quells strifes, and determines between great powers.	αντιλογίας παύει κλήρος εν δε δυνάσταις ορίζει
19A brother helped by a brother is as a strong and high city; and is as strong as a well-founded palace.	αδελφός υπό αδελφού βοηθούμενος ως πόλις οχυρά και υψηλή ισχύει δε ώσπερ τεθεμελιωμένον βασίλειον
20A man fills his belly with the fruits of his mouth; and he shall be satisfied with the fruits of his lips.	από καρπών στόματος ανήρ πίμπλησι κοιλίαν αυτού από δε καρπών χειλέων αυτού εμπλησθήσεται
21Life and death are in the power of the tongue; and they that rule it shall eat the fruits thereof.	θάνατος και ζωή εν χειρί γλώσσης οι δε κρατούντες αυτής έδονται τους καρπούς αυτής
22He that has found a good wife has found favours, and has received gladness from God. He that puts away a good wife, puts away a good thing, and he that keeps an adulteress is foolish and ungodly.	ος εύρε γυναίκα αγαθήν εύρε χάριτας έλαβε δε παρά κυρίου ιλαρότητα ος εκβάλλει γυναίκα αγαθήν εκβάλλει τα αγαθά ο δε κατέχων μοιχαλίδα άφρων και ασεβής
23	δεήσεις φθέγγεται πένης ο δε πλούσιος αποκρίνεται σκληρά
24	ανήρ εταίρων προς εταιρίαν και έστι φίλος προσκολληθείς υπέρ αδελφόν

Chapter 19

1The folly of a man spoils his ways: and he blames God in his heart.	κρείσσων εστί πτωχός πορευόμενος εν απλότητι αυτού η στρεβλός τοις χείλεσιν αυτού και αυτός ανόητος
2Wealth acquires many friends; but the poor is deserted even of the friend he has.	και γε χωρίς επιστήμης ψυχή ουκ αγαθή και ο σπεύδων τοις ποσίν αμαρτάνει
3A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that accuses unjustly shall not escape.	αφροσύνη ανδρός λυμαίνεται τας οδούς αυτού τον δε θεόν αιτιάται τη καρδία αυτού
4Many court the favour of kings; but every bad man becomes a reproach to another man.	πλούτος προστίθησι φίλους πολλούς ο δε πτωχός και από του υπάρχοντος φίλου λείπεται
5Every one who hates his poor brother shall also be far from friendship. Good understanding will draw near to them that know it, and a sensible man will find it. He that does much harm perfects mischief; and he that used provoking words shall not escape.	μάρτυς ψευδής ουκ ατιμώρητος έσται ο δε εγκαλών αδίκως ου διαφεύξεται
6He that procures wisdom loves himself; and he that keeps wisdom shall find good.	πολλοί θεραπεύουσι πρόσωπα βασιλέως πας δε ο κακός γίνεται όνειδος ανδρί
7A false witness shall not be unpunished; and whosoever shall kindle mischief shall perish by it.	πας ος αδελφόν πτωχόν μισεί και φιλίας μακράν έσται έννοια αγαθή τοις ειδόσιν αυτήν εγγιεί ανήρ δε φρόνιμος ευρήσει αυτήν ο πολλά κακοποιών τελεσιουργεί κακίας ος δε ερεθίζει λόγοις ου σωθήσεται
8Delight does not suit a fool, nor is it seemly if a servant should begin to rule with haughtiness.	ο κτώμενος φρόνησιν αγαπά εαυτόν ος δε φυλάσσει φρόνησιν ευρήσει αγαθά
9A merciful man is long-suffering; and his triumph overtakes transgressors.	μάρτυς ψευδής ουκ ατιμώρητος έσται ος δ΄ αν εκκαύσει κακίαν απολείται υπ΄ αυτής
10The threatening of a king is like the roaring of a lion; but as dew on the grass, so is his favour.	ου συμφέρει άφρονι τρυφή και εάν οικέτης άρξηται μεθ΄ ύβρεως δυναστεύειν
11A foolish son is a disgrace to his father: vows paid out of the hire of a harlot are not pure.	ελεήμων ανήρ μακροθυμεί το δε καύχημα αυτού επέρχεται παρανόμοις
12Fathers divide house and substance to their children: but a wife is suited to a man by the Lord.	βασιλέως απειλή ομοία βρυγμώ λέοντος ώσπερ δε δρόσος επί χόρτω ούτως το ιλαρόν αυτού
13 Cowardice possesses the effeminate man; and the soul of the sluggard shall hunger.	αισχύνη πατρί υιός άφρων και ουχ αγναί ευχαί από μισθώματος εταίρας
14He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall perish.	οίκον και ύπαρξιν μερίζουσι πατέρες παισί παρά δε κυρίου αρμόζεται γυνή ανδρί
15He that has pity on the poor lends to the Lord; and he will recompense to him according to his gift.	δειλία κατέχει ανδρόγυνον ψυχή δε αεργού πεινάσει
16Chasten thy son, for so he shall be hopeful; and be not exalted in thy soul to haughtiness.	ος φυλάσσει εντολήν τηρεί την εαυτού ψυχήν ο δε καταφρονών των εαυτού οδών απολείται
17A malicious man shall be severely punished, and if he commit injury, he shall also lose his life.	δανείζει θεώ ο ελεών πτωχόν κατά δε το δόμα αυτού ανταποδώσει αυτώ
18Hear, son, the instruction of thy father, that thou mayest be wise at thy latter end.	παίδευε υιόν σου ούτω γαρ έσται εύελπις εις δε ύβριν μη επαίρου τη ψυχή
19There are many thoughts in a man's heart; but the counsel of the Lord abides for ever.	κακόφρων ανήρ πολλά ζημιωθήσεται εάν δε λοιμεύηται και την ψυχήν αυτού προσθήσει
20Mercy is a fruit to a man: and a poor man is better than a rich liar.	άκουε υιέ παιδείαν πατρός σου ίνα σοφός γένη επ΄ εσχάτων σου
21The fear of the Lord is life to a man: and he shall lodge without fear in places where knowledge is not seen.	πολλοί λογισμοί εν καρδία ανδρός η δε βουλή του κυρίου εις τον αιώνα μένει
22He that unjustly hides his hands in his bosom, will not even bring them up to his mouth.	καρπός ανδρί ελεημοσύνη κρείσσων δε πτωχός δίκαιος η πλούσιος ψεύστης
23When a pestilent character is scourged, a simple man is made wiser: and if thou reprove a wise man, he will understand discretion.	φόβος κυρίου εις ζωήν ανδρί ο δε άφοβος αυλισθήσεται εν τόποις ου ουκ επισκοπείται γνώσις
24He that dishonours his father, and drives away his mother, shall be disgraced and shall be exposed to reproach.	ο εγκρύπτων εις τον κόλπον αυτού χείρας αδίκως ουδέ τω στόματι ου προσαγάγη αυτάς
25A son who ceases to attend to the instruction of a father will cherish evil designs.	λοιμού μαστιγουμένου άφρων πανουργότερος έσται εάν δε ελέγχης άνδρα φρόνιμον νοήσει αίσθησιν
26He that becomes surety for a foolish child will despise the ordinance: and the mouth of ungodly men shall drink down judgment.	ο ατιμάζων πατέρα και απωθούμενος μητέρα αυτού καταισχυνθήσεται και επονείδιστος έσται
27Scourges are preparing for the intemperate, and punishments likewise for fools.	υιός απολειπόμενος φυλάξαι παιδείαν πατρός μελετήσει ρήσεις κακάς
28	ο εγγυώμενος παίδα άφρονα καθυβρίσει δικαίωμα στόμα δε ασεβών καταπίεται κρίσεις
29	ετοιμάζονται ακολάστοις μάστιγες και τιμωρίαι ομοίως άφροσιν

Chapter 20

1Wine is an intemperate thing, and strong drink full of violence: but every fool is entangled with them.	ακόλαστον οίνος και υβριστικόν μέθη πας δε ο λυμαινόμενος ουκ έσται σοφός
2The threat of a king differs not from the rage of a lion; and he that provokes him sins against his own soul.	ου διαφέρει απειλή βασιλέως θυμού λέοντος ο δε παροξύνων αυτόν και επιμιγνύμενος αμαρτάνει εις την εαυτού ψυχήν
3It is a glory to a man to turn aside from railing; but every fool is entangled with such matters.	δόξα ανδρί αποστρέφεσθαι λοιδορίας πας δε άφρων τοιούτοις συμπλέκεται
4A sluggard when reproached is not ashamed: so also he who borrows corn in harvest.	ονειδιζόμενος οκνηρός ουκ αισχύνεται ωσαύτως και ο δανειζόμενος σίτον εν αμητώ
5Counsel in a man's heart is deep water; but a prudent man will draw it out.	ύδωρ βαθύ βουλή εν καρδία ανδρός ανήρ δε φρόνιμος εξαντλήσει αυτήν
6A man is valuable, and a merciful man precious: but it is hard to find a faithful man.	μέγα άνθρωπος και τίμιον ανήρ ελεήμων άνδρα δε πιστόν έργον ευρείν
7He that walks blameless in justice, shall leave his children blessed.	ος αναστρέφεται άμωμος εν δικαιοσύνη μακαρίους τους παίδας αυτού καταλείψει
8Whenever a righteous king sits on the throne, no evil thing can stand before his presence.	όταν βασιλεύς δίκαιος καθίση επί θρόνου ουκ εναντιούται εν οφθαλμοίς αυτού παν πονηρόν
9Who will boast that he has a pure heart? or who will boldly say that he is pure from sins?	τις καυχήσεται αγνήν έχειν την καρδίαν η τις παρρήσιασεται καθαρός είναι από αμαρτιών
10A large and small weight, and divers measures, are even both of them unclean before the Lord; and so is he that makes them.	στάθμιον μέγα και μικρόν και μέτρα δισσά ακάθαρτα ενώπιον κυρίου και αμφότερα και ο ποιών αυτά
11A youth when in company with a godly man, will be restrained in his devices, and then his way will be straight.	εν τοις επιτηδεύμασι αυτού συμποδισθήσεται νεανίσκος μετά οσίου και ευθεία η οδός αυτού
12The ear hears, and the eye sees: even both of them are the Lord's work.	ους ακούει και οφθαλμός ορά κυρίου έργα και αμφότερα
13Love not to speak ill, lest thou be cut off: open thine eyes, and be filled with bread.	μη αγάπα καταλαλείν ίνα μη εξαρθής διάνοιξον δε τους οφθαλμούς σου και εμπλήσθητι άρτων
14The lamp of him that reviles father or mother shall be put out, and his eyeballs shall see darkness.	κακόν κακόν λέγει ο αγοράζων και ως απέλθη τότε καυχήσεται
15A portion hastily gotten at first shall not be blessed in the end.	εστι χρυσός και πλήθος λίθων πολυτελών και σκεύη έντιμα χείλη συνέσεως
16Say not, I will avenge myself on my enemy; but wait on the Lord, that he may help thee.	αφελού το ιμάτιον του εγγυώντος αντί αλλοτρίου και αντί αλλοτρίας λάβε ενέχυρον παρ΄ αυτού
17A double weight is an abomination to the Lord; and a deceitful balance is not good in his sight.	ηδύς ανθρώπω άρτος ψεύδους και έπειτα εμπλησθήσεται το στόμα αυτού χαλίκων
18A man's goings are directed of the Lord: how then can a mortal understand his ways?	διαλογισμοί εν βουλή στερεώνται κυβερνήσεσι δε γίνεται πόλεμος
19It is a snare to a man hastily to consecrate some of his own property: for in that case repentance comes after vowing.	ο ανακαλύπτων βουλάς εν συνεδρίω πορεύεται δίγλωσσος και μετά πλαντύνοντος τα εαυτού μη μίχθητι χείλη
20A wise king utterly crushes the ungodly, and will bring a wheel upon them.	κακολογούντος πατέρα η μητέρα σβεσθήσεται λαμπτήρ αι δε κόραι των οφθαλμών αυτού όψονται σκότος
21The spirit of man is a light of the Lord, who searches the inmost parts of the belly.	μερίς επισπουδαζομένη εν πρώτοις εν τοις τελευταίοις ουκ ευλογηθήσεται
22Mercy and truth are a guard to a king, and will surround his throne with righteousness.	μη είπης τίσομαι τον εχθρόν αλλ΄ υπόμεινον τον κύριον ίνα σοι βοηθήση
23Wisdom is an ornament to young men; and grey hairs are the glory of old men.	βδέλυγμα κυρίω δίσσον στάθμιον και ζυγός δόλιος ου καλόν ενώπιον αυτού
24Bruises and contusions befall bad men; and plagues shall come in the inward parts of their belly.	παρά κυρίου ευθύνεται τα διαβήματα ανδρί θνητός δε πως αν νοήσαι τας οδούς αυτού
25	παγίς ανδρί ταχύ τι των ιδίων αγιάσαι μετά γαρ το εύξασθαι μετανοείν γίνεται
26	λικμήτωρ ασεβών βασιλεύς σοφός και επιβαλεί αυτοίς τροχόν
27	φως κυρίου πνοή ανθρώπων ος ερευνά ταμιεία κοιλίας
28	ελεημοσύνη και αλήθεια φυλακή βασιλεί και περικυκλώσουσιν εν δικαιοσύνη τον θρόνον αυτού
29	κόσμος νεανίαις σοφία δόξα δε πρεσβυτέρων πολιαί
30	υπώπια και συντρίμματα συναντά κακοίς πληγαί δε εις ταμιεία κοιλίας

Chapter 21

1As a rush of water, so is the king's heart in God's hand: he turns it whithersoever he may desire to point out.	ώσπερ ορμή ύδατος ούτως καρδία βασιλέως εν χειρί θεού ου εάν θέλων νεύση εκεί έκλινεν αυτήν
2Every man seems to himself righteous; but the Lord directs the hearts.	πας ανήρ φαίνεται εαυτώ δίκαιος κατευθύνει δε καρδίας κύριος
3To do justly and to speak truth, are more pleasing to God than the blood of sacrifices.	ποιείν δίκαια και αληθεύειν αρεστά παρά θεώ μάλλον η θυσιών αίμα
4A high-minded man is stout-hearted in his pride; and the lamp of the wicked is sin.	μεγαλόφρων εφ΄ ύβρει θρασυκάρδιος λαμπτήρ δε ασεβών αμαρτία
5He that gathers treasures with a lying tongue pursues vanity on to the snares of death.	διαλογισμοί ανδρείου εις πλησμονήν και πας ο σπεύδων εν ελάσσονι
6Destruction shall lodge with the ungodly; for they refuse to do justly.	ο ενεργών θησαυρίσματα γλώσση ψευδεί μάταια διώκει και έρχεται επί παγίδος θανάτου
7To the froward God sends froward ways; for his works are pure and right.	όλεθρος ασεβέσιν επιξενωθήσεται ου γαρ βούλονται πράσσειν τα δίκαια
8It is better to dwell in a corner on the house-top, than in plastered rooms with unrighteousness, and in an open house.	προς τους σκολιούς σκολιάς οδούς αποστέλλει ο θεός αγνά γαρ και ορθά τα έργα αυτού
9The soul of the ungodly shall not be pitied by any man.	κρείσσον οικείν επί γωνίας υπαίθρου η κεκονιαμένοις μετά αδικίας και εν οίκω κοινώ
10When an intemperate man is punished the simple becomes wiser: and a wise man understanding will receive knowledge.	ψυχή ασεβούς επιθυμεί κακών ουκ ελεηθήσεται υπ΄ ουδενός των ανθρώπων
11A righteous man understands the hearts of the ungodly: and despises the ungodly for their wickedness.	ζημιουμένου ακολάστου πανουργότερος γίνεται ο άκακος συνιών σοφός δέξεται γνώσιν
12He that stops his ears from hearing the poor, himself also shall cry, and there shall be none to hear him.	συνιεί δίκαιος καρδίας ασεβών και φαυλίζει ασεβείς εν κακοίς
13A secret gift calms anger: but he that forbears to give stirs up strong wrath.	ος φράσσει τα ώτα αυτού του μη ακούσαι ασθενούς και αυτός επικαλέσεται και ουκ έσται ο εισακούων
14It is the joy of the righteous to do judgment: but a holy man is abominable with evil-doers.	δόσις λάθριος ανατρέπει οργάς δώρων δε ο φειδόμενος θυμόν εγερεί ισχυρόν
15A man that wanders out of the way of righteousness, shall rest in the congregation of giants.	ευφροσύνη δικαίων ποιείν κρίμα όσιος δε ακάθαρτος παρά κακούργοις
16A poor man loves mirth, loving wine and oil in abundance;	ανήρ πλανώμενος εξ οδού δικαιοσύνης εν συναγωγή γιγάντων αναπαύσεται
17and a transgressor is the abomination of a righteous man.	ανήρ ενδεής αγαπά ευφροσύνην φιλών οίνον και έλαιον εις πλούτον
18It is better to dwell in a wilderness than with a quarrelsome and talkative and passionate woman.	περικάθαρμα δε δικαίου άνομος και αντί ευθέων παράνομος
19A desirable treasure will rest on the mouth of the wise; but foolish men will swallow it up.	κρείσσον οικείν εν τη ερήμω η μετά γυναικός μαχίμου και γλωσσώδους και οργίλου
20The way of righteousness and mercy will find life and glory.	θησαυρός επιθυμητός αναπαύσεται επί στόματος σοφού άφρονες δε άνδρες καταπίονται αυτόν
21A wise man assaults strong cities, and demolishes the fortress in which the ungodly trusted.	οδός δικαιοσύνης και ελεημοσύνης ευρήσει ζωήν και δόξαν
22He that keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from trouble.	πόλεις οχυράς επέβη σοφός και καθείλε το οχύρωμα εφ΄ ω επεποίθεισαν οι ασεβείς
23A bold and self-willed and insolent man is called a pest: and he that remembers injuries is a transgressor.	ος φυλάσσει το στόμα αυτού και την γλώσσαν διατηρεί εκ θλίψεως την ψυχήν αυτού
24Desires kill the sluggard; for his hands do not choose to do anything.	θρασύς και αυθάδης και αλαζών λοιμός καλείται ος δε μνησικακεί παράνομος
25An ungodly man entertains evil desires all the day: but the righteous is unsparingly merciful and compassionate.	επιθυμίαι οκνηρόν αποκτεινούσιν ου γαρ προαιρούνται αι χείρες αυτού ποιείν τι
26The sacrifices of the ungodly are abomination to the Lord, for they offer them wickedly.	ασεβής επιθυμεί όλην την ημέραν επιθυμίας κακάς ο δε δίκαιος ελεεί και οικτείρει αφειδώς
27A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man will speak cautiously.	θυσίαι ασεβών βδέλυγμα κυρίω και γαρ παρανόμως προσφέρουσιν αυτάς
28An ungodly man impudently withstands with his face; but the upright man himself understands his ways.	μάρτυς ψευδής απολείται ανήρ υπήκοος φυλασσόμενος λαλήσει
29There is no wisdom, there is no courage, there is no counsel against the ungodly.	ασεβής ανήρ αναιδώς υφίσταται προσώπω ο δε ευθύς αυτός συνιεί τας οδούς αυτού
30A horse is prepared for the day of battle; but help is of the Lord.	ουκ έστι σοφία ουκ έστιν ανδρεία ουκ έστι βουλή προς τον ασεβή
31	ίππος ετοιμάζεται εις ημέραν πολέμου παρά δε κυρίου η βοήθεια

Chapter 22

1A fair name is better than much wealth, and good favour is above silver and gold.	αιρετώτερον όνομα καλόν η πλούτος πολύς υπέρ δε αργύριον και χρυσίον χάρις αγαθή
2The rich and the poor meet together; but the Lord made them both.	πλούσιος και πτωχός συνήντησαν αλλήλοις αμφοτέρους δε ο κύριος εποίησε
3An intelligent man seeing a bad man severely punished is himself instructed, but fools pass by and are punished.	πανούργος ιδών πονηρόν τιμωρούμενον κραταιώς αυτός παιδεύεται οι δε άφρονες παρελθόντες εζημιώθησαν
4The fear of the Lord is the offspring of wisdom, and wealth, and glory, and life.	γενεά σοφίας φόβος κυρίου και πλούτος και δόξα και ζωή
5Thistles and snares are in perverse ways; but he that keeps his soul will refrain from them.	τρίβολοι και παγίδες εν οδοίς σκολιαίς ο δε φυλάσσων την εαυτού ψυχήν αφέξεται αυτών
6The rich will rule over the poor, and servants will lend to their own masters.	εγκαίνισον το παιδίον κατά την οδόν αυτού και γε εάν γηράση ουκ αποστήσεται απ΄ αυτής
7He that sows wickedness shall reap troubles; and shall fully receive the punishment of his deeds. God loves a cheerful and liberal man; but a man shall fully prove the folly of his works.	πλούσιοι πτωχών άρξουσι και οικέται ιδίοις δεσπόταις δανιούσιν
8He that has pity on the poor shall himself be maintained; for he has given of his own bread to the poor. He that gives liberally secures victory an honour; but he takes away the life of them that posses them.	ο σπείρων φαύλα θερίσει κακά πληγήν δε έργων αυτού συντελέσει άνδρα ιλαρόν και δότην αγαπά ο θεός ματαιότητα δε έργων αυτού συντελέσει
9Cast out a pestilent person from the council, and strife shall go out with him; for when he sits in the council he dishonours all.	ο ελεών πτωχόν αυτός διατραφήσεται των γαρ εαυτού άρτων δέδωκε τω πτωχώ νίκην και τιμήν περιποιείται ο δώρα δους την μέντοι ψυχήν αφαιρείται των κεκτημένων
10The Lord loves holy hearts, and all blameless persons are acceptable with him: a king rules with his lips.	έκβαλε εκ συνεδρίου λοιμόν και συνεξελεύσεται αυτώ νείκος όταν γαρ καθίση εν συνεδρίω πάντας ατιμάζει
11But the eyes of the Lord preserve discretion; but the transgressor despises wise words.	αγαπά κύριος οσίας καρδίας δεκτοί δε αυτώ πάντες άμωμοι εν ταις οδοίς αυτών χείλεσι ποιμαίνει βασιλεύς
12The sluggard makes excuses, and says, There is a lion in the ways, and murderers in the streets.	οι δε οφθαλμοί κυρίου διατηρούσιν αίσθησιν φαυλίζει δε λόγους παράνομος
13The mouth of a transgressor is a deep pit; and he that is hated of the Lord shall fall into it. Evil ways are before a man, and he does not like to turn away from them; but it is needful to turn aside from a perverse and bad way.	προφασίζεται και λέγει οκνηρός λέων εν ταις οδοίς εν δε ταις πλατείαις φονευταί
14Folly is attached to the heart of a child, but the rod and instruction are then far from him.	βόθρος βαθύς στόμα παρανόμου ο δε μισηθείς υπό κυρίου εμπεσείται εις αυτόν
15He that oppresses the poor, increases his own substance, yet gives to the rich so as to make it less.	άνοια εξήπται καρδίας νέου ράβδος δε και παιδεία μακράν απ΄ αυτού
16Incline thine ear to the words of wise men: hear also my word, and apply thine heart,	ο συκοφαντών πένητα πολλά ποιεί τα εαυτού κακά δίδωσι δε πλουσίω επ΄ ελάσσονι
17that thou mayest know that they are good: and if thou lay them to heart, they shall also gladden thee on thy lips.	λόγοις σοφών παράβαλλε το ους σου και άκουε εμών λόγων την δε σην καρδίαν επίστησον ίνα γνως
18That thy hope may be in the Lord, and he may make thy way known to thee.	ότι καλοί εισι και εάν εμβάλης αυτούς εις την καρδίαν σου ευφρανούσί σε άμα επί σοις χείλεσιν
19And do thou too repeatedly record them for thyself on the table of thine heart, for counsel and knowledge.	ίνα σου γένηται επί κύριον η ελπίς και γνωρίση σοι την οδόν αυτού
20I therefore teach thee truth, and knowledge good to hear; that thou mayest answer words of truth to them that question thee.	και συ δε απόγραψαι αυτά σεαυτώ τρισσώς εις βουλήν και γνώσιν
21Do no violence to the poor, for he is needy: neither dishonour the helpless man in the gates.	διδάσκω ουν σε αληθή λόγον και γνώσιν αγαθήν υπακούειν του αποκρίνεσθαί σε λόγους αληθείας τοις προβαλλομένοις σοι
22For the Lord will plead his cause, and thou shalt deliver thy soul in safety.	μη αποβιάζου πένητα πτωχός γαρ εστι και μη ατιμάσης ασθενή εν πύλαις
23Be not companion to a furious man; neither lodge with a passionate man:	ο γαρ κύριος κρινεί αυτού την δίκην και ρύση σην άσυλον ψυχήν
24lest thou learn of his ways, and get snares to thy soul.	μη ίσθι εταίρος ανδρί θυμώδει φίλω δε οργίλω μη συναυλίζου
25Become not surety from respect of a man's person.	μήποτε μάθης των οδών αυτού και λάβης βρόχους τη ση ψυχή
26For if those have not whence to give compensation, they will take the bed that is under thee.	μη δίδου σεαυτόν εις εγγυήν αισχυνόμενος πρόσωπον
27Remove not the old landmarks, which thy fathers placed.	εάν γαρ μη έχης πόθεν αποτίσης λήψονται το στρώμα το υπό τας πλευράς σου
28It is fit that an observant man and one diligent in his business should attend on kings, and not attend on slothful men.	μη μέταιρε όρια αιώνια α έστησαν οι πατέρες σου
29	ορατικόν άνδρα και οξύν εν τοις έργοις αυτού βασιλεύσι δει παρεστάναι και μη παρεστάναι ανδράσι νωθροίς

Chapter 23

1If thou sit to sup at the table of a prince, consider attentively the things set before thee:	εάν καθίσης δειπνήσαι επί τραπέζης δυνάστου νοητώς νόει τα παρατιθέμενά σοι
2and apply thine hand, knowing that it behoves thee to prepare such meats: but if thou art very insatiable,	και επίβαλλε την χείρά σου ειδώς ότι τοιαύτά σε δει παρασκευάσαι ει δε απληστότερος ει
3desire not his provisions; for these belong to a false life.	μη επιθύμει των εδεσμάτων αυτού ταύτα γαρ έχεται ζωής ψευδούς
4If thou art poor, measure not thyself with a rich man; but refrain thyself in thy wisdom.	μη παρεκτείνου πένης ων πλουσίω τη δε ση έννοια απόσχου
5If thou shouldest fix thine eye upon him, he will disappear; for wings like an eagle's are prepared for him, and he returns to the house of his master.	εάν επιστήσης το σον όμμα προς αυτόν ουδαμού φανείται κατεσκεύασται γαρ αυτώ πτέρυγες ώσπερ αετού και υποστρέφει εις τον οίκον του προεστηκότος αυτού
6Sup not with an envious man, neither desire thou his meats:	μη συνδείπνει ανδρί βασκάνω μηδέ επιθύμει των βρωμάτων αυτού
7so he eats and drinks as if any one should swallow a hair, and do not bring him in to thyself, nor eat thy morsel with him:	ον τρόπον γαρ ει καταπίοι τρίχα ούτως εσθίει και πίνει μηδέ προς σε εισαγάγης αυτόν και φάγης τον ψωμόν σου μετ΄ αυτού
8for he will vomit it up, and spoil thy fair words.	εξεμέσει γαρ αυτόν και λυμανείται τους λόγους σου τους καλούς
9Say nothing in the ears of a fool, lest at any time he sneer at thy wise words.	εις ώτα άφρονος μηδέν λέγε μή μυκτηρίση τους συνετούς σου λόγους
10Remove not the ancient landmarks; and enter not upon the possession of the fatherless:	μη μεταθής όρια αιώνια εις δε κτήμα ορφανών μη εισέλθης
11for the Lord is their redeemer; he is mighty, and will plead their cause with thee.	ο γαρ λυτρούμενος αυτούς κύριος κραταιός εστι και κρινεί την κρίσιν αυτών μετά σου
12Apply thine heart to instruction, and prepare thine ears for words of discretion.	δος εις παιδείαν την καρδίαν σου τα δε ωτά σου ετοίμασον λόγοις αισθήσεως
13Refrain not from chastening a child; for if thou beat him with the rod, he shall not die.	μη απόσχη νήπιον παιδεύειν ότι εάν πατάξης αυτόν ράβδω ου αποθάνη
14For thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from death.	συ μεν γαρ πατάξεις αυτόν ράβδω την δε ψυχήν αυτού εκ θανάτου ρύση
15Son, if thy heart be wise, thou shalt also gladden my heart;	υιέ εάν σοφή γένηταί σου η καρδία ευφρανείς και την εμήν καρδίαν
16and thy lips shall converse with my lips, if they be right.	και ενδιατρίψει λόγοις τα σα χείλη προς τα εμά χείλη εάν ορθά ώσι
17Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the Lord all the day.	μη ζηλούτω η καρδία σου αμαρτωλούς αλλά εν φόβω κυρίου ίσθι όλην την ημέραν
18For if thou shouldest keep these things, thou shalt have posterity; and thine hope shall not be removed.	εάν γαρ τηρήσης αυτά έσται σοι έκγονα η δε ελπίς σου ουκ αποστήσεται
19Hear, my son, and be wise, and rightly direct the thoughts of thine heart.	άκουε υιέ και σοφός γίνου και κατεύθυνε εννοίας σης καρδίας
20Be not a wine-bibber, neither continue long at feasts, and purchases of flesh:	μη ίσθι οινοπότης μηδέ εκτείνου συμβολαίς κρεών τε αγορασμοίς
21for every drunkard and whoremonger shall be poor; and every sluggard shall clothe himself with tatters and ragged garments.	πας γαρ μέθυσος και πορνοκόπος πτωχεύσει και ενδύσεται διερρηγμένα και ρακώδη πας υπνώδης
22Hearken, my son, to thy father which begot thee, and despise not thy mother because she is grown old.	άκουε υιέ πατρός του γεννήσαντός σε και μη καταφρόνει ότι γεγήρακέ σου η μήτηρ
23A righteous father brings up his children well; and his soul rejoices over a wise son.	αλήθειαν κτήσαι και μη απώση σοφίαν και παιδείαν και σύνεσιν
24Let thy father and thy mother rejoice over thee, and let her that bore thee be glad.	καλώς εκτρέφει πατήρ δίκαιος επί δε υιώ σοφώ ευφραίνεται η ψυχή αυτού
25My son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.	ευφραινέσθω ο πατήρ και η μήτηρ επί σοι και χαιρέτω η τεκούσά σε
26For a strange house is a vessel full of holes; and a strange well is narrow.	δος μοι υιέ σην καρδίαν οι δε σοι οφθαλμοί εμάς οδούς τηρείτωσαν
27For such a one shall perish suddenly; and every transgressor shall be cut off.	πίθος γαρ τετριμένος εστίν αλλότριος οίκος και φρεάρ στενόν αλλότριον
28Who has woe? who trouble? who has quarrels? and who vexations and disputes? who has bruises without a cause? whose eyes are livid?	ούτος γαρ συντόμως απολείται και πας παράνομος αναλωθήσεται
29Are not those of them that stay long at wine? are not those of them that haunt the places where banquets are? Be not drunk with wine; but converse with just men, and converse with them openly.	τίνι ουαί τίνι θόρυβος τίνι κρίσεις τίνι αηδίαι και λέσχαι τίνι συντρίμματα διακενής τίνος πελιδνοί οι οφθαλμοί
30For if thou shouldest set thine eyes on bowls and cups, thou shalt afterwards go more naked than a pestle.	ου των εγχρονιζόντων εν οίνοις ου των ιχνευόντων που πότοι γίνονται μη μεθύσκεσθε οίνω αλλά ομιλείτε ανθρώποις δικαίοις και ομιλείτε εν περιπάτοις
31But at last such a one stretches himself out as one smitten by a serpent, and venom is diffused through him as by a horned serpent.	εάν γαρ εις τας φιάλας και τα ποτήρια δως τους οφθαλμούς σου ύστερον περιπατήσεις γυμνότερος υπέρου
32Whenever thine eyes shall behold a strange woman, then thy mouth shall speak perverse things.	το δε έσχατον ώσπερ υπό όφεως πεπληγώς εκτείνεται και ώσπερ υπό κεράστου διαχείται αυτού ο ιός
33And thou shalt lie as in the midst of the sea, and as a pilot in a great storm.	οι οφθαλμοί σου όταν ίδωσιν αλλοτρίαν το στόμα σου τότε λαλήσει σκολιά
34And thou shalt say, They smote me, and I was not pained; and they mocked me, and I knew it not: when will it be morning, that I may go and seek those with whom I may go in company?	και κατακείση ώσπερ εν καρδία θαλάσσης και ώσπερ κυβερνήτης εν πολλώ κλύδωνι
35	ερείς δε έτυπτόν με και ουκ επόνεσα και ενέπαιξάν μοι εγώ δε ουκ ήδειν πότε όρθρος έσται ίνα ελθών ζητήσω μεθ΄ ων συνελεύσομαι

Chapter 24

1My son, envy not bad men, nor desire to be with them.	υιέ μη ζηλώσης κακούς άνδρας μηδέ επιθυμήσης είναι μετ΄ αυτών
2For their heart meditates falsehoods, and their lips speak mischiefs.	ψευδή γαρ μελετά η καρδία αυτών και πόνους τα χείλη αυτών λαλεί
3A house is built by wisdom, and is set up by understanding.	μετά σοφίας οικοδομείται οίκος και μετά συνέσεως ανορθούται
4By discretion the chambers are filled with all precious and excellent wealth.	μετά αισθήσεως εμπίμπλανται τα ταμιεία παντός πλούτου τιμίου και καλού
5A wise man is better than a strong man; and a man who has prudence than a large estate.	κρείσσων σοφός ισχυρού και ανήρ φρόνησιν έχων γεωργίου μεγάλου
6War is carried on with generalship, and aid is supplied to the heart of a counsellor.	μετά κυβερνήσεως γίνεται πόλεμος βοήθεια δε μετά καρδίας βουλευτικής
7Wisdom and good understanding are in the gates of the wise: the wise turn not aside from the mouth of the Lord,	σοφία και έννοια αγαθή εν πύλαις σοφών σοφοί ουκ εκκλίνουσιν εκ νόμου κυρίου αλλά λογίζονται εν συνεδρίοις απαιδεύτοις συναντά θάνατος
8but deliberate in council. Death befalls uninstructed men.	αποθνήσκει δε άφρων εν αμαρτίαις ακαθαρσία ανδρί λοιμώ
9The fools also dies in sins; and uncleanness attaches to a pestilent man.	εμμολυνθήσεται εν ημέρα κακή και εν ημέρα θλίψεως έως αν εκλείπη
10He shall be defiled in the evil day, and in the day of affliction, until he be utterly consumed.	ρύσαι αγομένους εις θάνατον και εκπρίου κτεινομένους μη φείση
11Deliver them that are led away to death, and redeem them that are appointed to be slain; spare not thy help.	εάν δε είπης ουκ οίδα τούτον γίνωσκε ότι κύριος καρδίας πάντων γινώσκει και ο πλάσας πνοήν πάσιν αυτός οίδε πάντα ος αποδίδωσιν εκάστω κατά τα έργα αυτού
12But if thou shouldest say, I know not this man; know that the Lord knows the hearts of all; and he that formed breath for all, he knows all things, who renders to every man according to his works.	φάγε μέλι υιέ αγαθόν γαρ κηρίον ίνα γλυκανθή σου ο φάρυγξ
13My son, eat honey, for the honeycomb is good, that thy throat may be sweetened.	ούτως γαρ αισθήση σοφίαν τη ση ψυχή εάν γαρ εύρης έσται καλή η τελευτή σου και ελπίς σε ουκ καταλείψει
14Thus shalt thou perceive wisdom in thy soul: for if thou find it, thine end shall be good, and hope shall not fail thee.	μη προσαγάγης ασεβή νομή δικαίων μηδέ απατηθής χορτασία κοιλίας
15Bring not an ungodly man into the dwelling of the righteous: neither be deceived by the feeding of the belly.	επτάκις γαρ πεσείται ο δίκαιος και αναστήσεται οι δε ασεβείς ασθενήσουσιν εν κακοίς
16For a righteous man will fall seven times, and rise again: but the ungodly shall be without strength in troubles.	εάν πέση ο εχθρός σου μη επιχαρής αυτώ εν δε τω υποσκελίσματι αυτού μη επαίρου
17If thine enemy should fall, rejoice not over him, neither be elated at his overthrow.	ότι όψεται κύριος και ουκ αρέσει αυτώ και αποστρέψει τον θυμόν αυτού απ αυτού
18For the Lord will see it, and it will not please him, and he will turn away his wrath from him.	μη χαίρε επί κακοποιοίς μηδέ ζήλου αμαρτωλούς
19Rejoice not in evil-doers, neither be envious of sinners.	ου γαρ μη γένηται έκγονα πονηρών λαμπτήρ δε ασεβών σβεσθήσεται
20For the evil man shall have no posterity: and the light of the wicked shall be put out.	φοβού τον θεόν υιέ και βασιλέα και μηθ αυτών απειθήσης
21My son, fear God and the king; and do not disobey either of them.	εξαίφνης γαρ τίσονται τους ασεβείς τας δε τιμωρίας αμφοτέρων τις γνώσεται
22For they will suddenly punish the ungodly, and who can know the vengeance inflicted by both? [A son that keeps the commandment shall escape destruction; for such an one has fully received it. Let no falsehood be spoken by the king from the tongue; yea, let no falsehood proceed from his tongue. The king's tongue is a sword, and not one of flesh; and whosoever shall be given up to it shall be destroyed: for if his wrath should be provoked, he destroys men with cords, and devours men's bones, and burns them up as a flame, so that they are not even fit to be eaten by the young eagles. My son, reverence my words, and receive them, and repent.]	ταύτα δε λέγω υμίν τοις σοφοίς επιγινώσκειν αιδείσθαι πρόσωπον εν κρίσει ου καλόν
23And this thing I say to you that are wise for you to learn: It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.	ο ειπών τον ασεβή δίκαιός εστιν επικατάρατος λαοίς έσται και μισητός εις έθνη
24He that says of the ungodly, He is righteous, shall be cursed by peoples, and hateful among the nations.	οι δε ελέγχοντες βελτίους φανούνται επ΄ αυτούς δε ήξει ευλογία αγαθή
25But they that reprove him shall appear more excellent, and blessing shall come upon them;	χείλη δε φιλήσουσιν αποκρινόμενα λόγους αγαθούς
26and men will kiss lips that answer well.	ετοίμαζε εις την έξοδον τα έργα σου και παρασκευάζου εις τον αγρόν και πορεύου κατόπισθέν μου και ανοικοδομήσεις τον οίκόν σου
27Prepare thy works for thy going forth, and prepare thyself for the field; and come after me, and thou shalt rebuild thine house.	μη ίσθι ψευδής μάρτυς επί σον πολίτην μηδέ πλατύνου σοις χείλεσι
28Be not a false witness against thy fellow citizen, neither exaggerate with thy lips.	μη είπης ον τρόπον εχρήσατό μοι χρήσομαι αυτώ τίσομαι δε αυτόν α με ηδίκησεν
29Say not, As he has treated me, so will I treat him, and I will avenge myself on him for that wherein he has injured me.	ώσπερ γεώργιον ανήρ άφρων και ώσπερ αμπελών άνθρωπος ενδεής φρενών
30A foolish man is like a farm, and a senseless man is like a vineyard.	εάν αφής αυτόν χερσωθήσεται και χορτομανήσει όλος και γίνεται εκλελειμμένος οι δε φραγμοί των λίθων αυτού κατασκάπτονται
31If thou let him alone, he will altogether remain barren and covered with weeds; and he becomes destitute, and his stone walls are broken down.	ύστερον εγώ μετενόησα επεβλέψα του εκλέξασθαι παιδείαν
32Afterwards I reflected, I looked that I might receive instruction.	ολίγον νυστάζω ολίγον δε καθυπνώ ολίγον δε εναγκαλίζομαι χερσί στήθη
33The sluggard says, I slumber a little, and I sleep a little, and for a little while I fold my arms across my breast.	εάν δε τούτο ποιής ήξει προπορευομένη η πενία σου και η ένδεια ώσπερ αγαθός δρομεύς
34But if thou do this, thy poverty will come speedily; and thy want like a swift courier.

Chapter 25

1These are the miscellaneous instructions of Solomon, which the friends of Ezekias king of Judea copied out.	αύται αι παροιμίαι Σολομώντος αι αδιάκριτοι ας εξεγράψαντο οι φίλοι Εζεκίου του βασιλέως της Ιουδαίας
2The glory of God conceals a matter: but the glory of a king honours business.	δόξα θεού κρύπτει λόγον δόξα δε βασιλέως τιμά πράγματα
3Heaven is high, and earth is deep, and a king's heart is unsearchable.	ουρανός υψηλός γη δε βαθεία καρδία δε βασιλέως ανεξέλεγκτος
4Beat the drossy silver, and it shall be made entirely pure.	τυπτε αδόκιμον αργύριον και καθαρίσθήσεται καθαρόν άπαν
5Slay the ungodly from before the king, and his throne shall prosper in righteousness.	κτείνε ασεβείς εκ προσώπου βασιλέως και κατορθώσει εν δικαιοσύνη ο θρόνος αυτού
6Be not boastful in the presence of the king, and remain not in the places of princes;	μη αλαζονεύου ενώπιον βασιλέως μηδέ εν τόποις δυναστών υφίστασο
7for it is better for thee that it should be said, Come up to me, than that one should humble thee in the presence of the prince; speak of that which thine eyes have seen.	κρείσσον γαρ το ρηθήναί σοι ανάβαινε προς με η ταπεινώσαί σε εν προσώπω δυνάστου α είδον οι οφθαλμοί σου λέγε
8Get not suddenly into a quarrel, lest thou repent at last.	μη πρόσπιπτε εις μάχην ταχέως ίνα μη μεταμεληθής επ΄ εσχάτων ηνίκα αν σε ονειδίση ο φίλος
9Whenever thy friend shall reproach thee, retreat backward, despise him not;	αναχώρει εις τα οπίσω μη καταφρόνει
10lest thy friend continue to reproach thee, so thy quarrel and enmity shall not depart, but shall be to thee like death. Favour and friendship set a man free, which do thou keep for thyself, lest thou be made liable to reproach; but take heed to thy ways peaceably.	μη σε ονειδίση μεν ο φίλος η δε μάχη σου και η έχθρα ουκ απέσται αλλά έσται σοι ίση θανάτου χάρις και φιλία ελευθεροί ας τήρησον σεαυτώ ίνα μη επονείδιστος γένη αλλά φύλαξον τας οδούς σου ευσαναλλάκτως
11As a golden apple in a necklace of sardius, so is it to speak a wise word.	μήλον χρυσούν εν ορμίσκω σαρδίου ούτως ειπείν λόγον
12In an ear-ring of gold a precious sardius is also set; so is a wise word to an obedient ear.	εις ενώτιον χρυσούν σάρδιον πολυτελές δέδεται λόγος σοφός εις ευήκοον ους
13As a fall of snow in the time of harvest is good against heat, so a faithful messenger refreshes those that send him; for he helps the souls of his employers.	ώσπερ έξοδος χιόνος εν αμήτω κατά καύμα ωφελεί ούτως άγγελος πιστός τους αποστείλαντας αυτόν ψυχάς γαρ των αυτώ χρωμένων ωφελεί
14As winds and clouds and rains are most evident objects, so is he that boasts of a false gift.	ώσπερ άνεμοι και νέφη και υετοί επιφανέστατοι ούτως οι καυχώμενοι επί δόσει ψευδεί
15In long-suffering is prosperity to kings, and a soft tongue breaks the bones.	εν μακροθυμία ευοδία βασιλεύσι γλώσσα δε μαλακή συντρίβει οστά
16Having found honey, eat only what is enough, lest haply thou be filled, and vomit it up.	μέλι ευρών φάγε το ικανόν μή πλησθείς εξεμέσης
17Enter sparingly into thy friend's house, lest he be satiated with thy company, and hate thee.	σπάνιον είσαγε σον πόδα προς σεαυτού φίλον μή πλησθείς σου μισήση σε
18As a club, and a dagger, and a pointed arrow, so also is a man who bears false witness against his friend.	ρόπαλον και μάχαιρα και τόξευμα ακιδωτόν ούτως και ανήρ ο καταμαρτυρών του φίλου αυτού μαρτυρίαν ψευδή
19The way of the wicked and the foot of the transgressor shall perish in an evil day.	οδός κακού και πους παρανόμου ολείται εν ημέρα κακή
20As vinegar is bad for a sore, so trouble befalling the body afflicts the heart. As a moth in a garment, and a worm in wood, so the grief of a man hurts the heart.	ώσπερ όξος έλκει ασύμφορον ούτως προσπεσόν πάθος εν σώματι καρδίαν λυπεί ώσπερ σης ιματίω και σκώληξ ξύλω ούτως λύπη ανδρός βλάπτει καρδίαν
21If thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink;	εάν πεινά ο εχθρός σου τρέφε αυτόν εάν διψά πότιζε αυτόν
22for so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the Lord shall reward thee with good.	τούτο γαρ ποιών άνθρακας πυρός σωρεύσεις επί της κεφαλής αυτού ο δε κύριος ανταποδώσει σοι αγαθά
23The north wind raises clouds; so an impudent face provokes the tongue.	άνεμος βορέας εξεγείρει νέφη πρόσωπον δε αναιδές γλώσσαν ερεθίζει
24It is better to dwell on a corner of the roof, than with a railing woman in an open house.	κρείσσον οικείν επί γωνίας δώματος η μετά γυναικός λοιδόρου εν οικία κοινή
25As cold water is agreeable to a thirsting soul, so is a good message from a land far off.	ώσπερ ύδωρ ψυχρόν ψυχή διψώση προσηνές ούτως αγγελία αγαθή εκ γης μακρόθεν
26As if one should stop a well, and corrupt a spring of water, so is it unseemly for a righteous man to fall before an ungodly man.	ώσπερ ει πηγήν φράσσοι και ύδατος έξοδον λυμαίνοιτο ούτως άκοσμον δίκαιον πεπτωκέναι ενώπιον ασεβούς
27It is not good to eat much honey; but it is right to honour venerable sayings.	εσθίειν μέλι πολύ ου καλόν τιμάν δε χρη λόγους ενδόξους
28As a city whose walls are broken down, and which is unfortified, so is a man who does anything without counsel.	ώσπερ πόλις τα τείχη καταβεβλημένη και ατείχιστος ούτως ανήρ ος ου μετά βουλής τι πράσσει

Chapter 26

1As dew in harvest, and as rain in summer, so honour is not seemly for a fool.	ώσπερ δρόσος εν αμητώ και ώσπερ υετός εν θέρει ούτως ουκ έστιν άφρονι τιμή
2As birds and sparrows fly, so a curse shall not come upon any one without a cause.	ώσπερ όρνεα πέταται και στρουθοί ούτως αρά ματαία ουκ επελεύσεται ουδενί
3As a whip for a horse, and a goad for an ass, so is a rod for a simple nation.	ώσπερ μάστιξ ίππω και κέντρον όνω ούτως ράβδος έθνει παρανόμω
4Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou become like him.	μη αποκρίνου άφρονι κατά την εκείνου αφροσύνην ίνα μη όμοιος γένη αυτώ
5Yet answer a fool according to his folly, lest he seem wise in his own conceit.	αλλά αποκρίνου άφρονι προς την εκείνου αφροσύνην ίνα μη φαίνηται σοφός παρ΄ εαυτώ
6He that sends a message by a foolish messenger procures for himself a reproach from his own ways.	εκ των οδών εαυτού όνειδος ποιείται ο αποστείλας δι΄ αγγέλου άφρονος λόγον
7As well take away the motion of the legs, as transgression from the mouth of fools.	αφελού πορείαν σκελών και παροιμίας εκ στόματος αφρόνων
8He that binds up a stone in a sling, is like one that gives glory to a fool.	ος αποδεσμεύει λίθον εν σφενδόνη όμοιός εστι τω διδόντι άφρονι δόξαν
9Thorns grow in the hand of a drunkard, and servitude in the hand of fools.	άκανθαι φύονται εν χειρί του μεθύσου δουλεία δε εν χειρί των αφρόνων
10 All the flesh of fools endures much hardship; for their fury is brought to nought.	πολλά χειμάζεται πάσα σαρξ αφρόνων συντρίβεται γαρ η έκστασις αυτών
11As when a dog goes to his own vomit, and becomes abominable, so is fool who returns in his wickedness to his own sin. [There is a shame that brings sin: and there is a shame that is glory and grace.]	ώσπερ κύων όταν επέλθη επί τον εαυτού έμετον και μισητός γένηται ούτως άφρων τη εαυτού κακία αναστρέψας επί την εαυτού αμαρτίαν
12I have seen a man who seemed to himself to be wise; but a fool had more hope than he.	είδον άνδρα δόξαντα παρ΄ εαυτώ σοφόν είναι ελπίδα μέντοι έσχε μάλλον άφρων αυτού
13A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the ways, and there are murderers in the streets.	λέγει οκνηρός αποστελλόμενος εις οδόν λέων εν ταις οδοίς εν δε ταις πλατείαις φονευταί
14As a door turns on the hinge, so does a sluggard on his bed.	ώσπερ θύρα στρέφεται επί του στρόφιγγος ούτως οκνηρός επί της κλίνης αυτού
15A sluggard having hid his hand in his bosom, will not be able to bring it up to his mouth.	κρύψας οκνηρός την χείρα εν τω κόλπω αυτού ου δύναται επενεγκείν επί το στόμα
16A sluggard seems to himself wiser than one who most satisfactorily brings back a message.	σοφώτερος εαυτώ οκνηρός φαίνεται του εν πλησμονή αποκομίζοντος αγγελίαν
17As he that lays hold of a dog's tail, so is he that makes himself the champion of another's cause.	ώσπερ ο κρατών κέρκου κυνός ούτως ο προεστώς αλλοτρίας κρίσεως
18As those who need correction put forth fair words to men, and he that first falls in with the proposal will be overthrown;	ώσπερ οι ιώμενοι προβάλλουσι λόγους εις ανθρώπους ο δε απαντήσας τω λόγω πρώτος υποσκελισθήσεται
19so are all that lay wait for their own friends, and when they are discovered, say, I did it in jest.	ούτως πάντες οι ενεδρεύοντες τους εαυτών φίλους όταν δε φωραθώσι λέγουσιν ότι παίζων έπραξα
20With much wood fire increases; but where there is not a double-minded man, strife ceases.	εν πολλοίς ξύλοις θάλλει πυρ όπου δε ουκ έστι δίθυμος ησυχάζει μάχη
21A hearth for coals, and wood for fire; and railing man for the tumult of strife.	εσχάρα άνθραξι και ξύλα πυρί ανήρ δε λοίδορος εις ταραχήν μάχης
22The words of cunning knaves are soft; but they smite even to the inmost parts of the bowels.	λόγοι κερκώπων μαλακοί ούτοι δε τύπτουσιν εις ταμιεία σπλάγχνων
23Silver dishonestly given is to be considered as a potsherd: smooth lips cover a grievous heart.	αργύριον διδόμενον μετά δόλου ώσπερ όστρακον ηγητέον χείλη λεία καρδίαν καλύπτει λυπηράν
24A weeping enemy promises all things with his lips, but in his heart he contrives deceit.	χείλεσι πάντα επινεύει αποκλαιόμενος εχθρός εν δε τη καρδία τεκταίνεται δόλους
25Though thine enemy intreat thee with a loud voice, consent not: for there are seven abominations in his heart.	εάν σου δεήται ο εχθρός μεγάλη τη φωνή μη πεισθής αυτώ επτά γαρ εισι πονηρίαι εν τη καρδία αυτού
26He that hides enmity frames deceit: but being easily discerned, exposes his own sins in the public assemblies.	ο κρύπτων έχθραν συνίστησι δόλον εκκαλύπτει δε τας εαυτού αμαρτίας εύγνωστος εν συνεδρίω
27He that digs a pit for his neighbour shall fall into it: and he that rolls a stone, rolls it upon himself.	ο ορύσσων βόθρον τω πλησίον εμπεσείται εις αυτόν ο δε κυλίων λίθον εφ΄ εαυτόν κυλίει
28A lying tongue hates the truth; and an unguarded mouth causes tumults.	γλώσσα ψευδής μισεί αλήθειαν στόμα δε άστεγον ποιεί ακαταστασίαν

Chapter 27

1Boast not of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what the next day shall bring forth.	μη καυχώ τα εις αύριον ου γαρ γινώσκεις τι τέξεται η επιούσα
2Let thy neighbour, and not thine own mouth, praise thee; a stranger, and not thine own lips.	εγκωμιαζέτω σε ο πέλας και μη το σον στόμα αλλότριος και μη τα σα χείλη
3A stone is heavy, and sand cumbersome; but a fool's wrath is heavier than both.	βαρύ λίθος και δυσβάστακτον άμμος οργή δε άφρονος βαρυτέρα αμφοτέρων
4Wrath is merciless, and anger sharp: but envy can bear nothing.	ανελεήμων θυμός και οξεία οργή αλλ΄ ουδέν υφίσταται ζήλος
5Open reproofs are better than secret love.	κρείσσους έλεγχοι αποκαλυπτόμενοι κρυπτομένης φιλίας
6The wounds of a friend are more to be trusted than the spontaneous kisses of an enemy.	αξιοπιστότερα τραύματα φίλου η εκούσια φιλήματα εχθρού
7A full soul scorns honeycombs; but to a hungry soul even bitter things appear sweet.	ψυχή εν πλησμονή ούσα κηρίοις εμπαίζει ψυχή δε ενδεεί και τα πικρά γλυκέα φαίνεται
8As when a bird flies down from its own nest, so a man is brought into bondage whenever he estranges himself from his own place.	ώσπερ όρνεον όταν καταπετασθή εκ της ιδίας νοσσιάς ούτως άνθρωπος δουλούται όταν αποξενωθή εκ των ιδίων τόπων
9The heart delights in ointments and wines and perfumes: but the soul is broken by calamities.	μύροις και οίνοις και θυμιάμασι τέρπεται καρδία καταρρήγνυται δε υπό συμπτωμάτων ψυχή
10Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; and when thou art in distress go not into thy brother's house: better is a friend that is near than a brother living far off.	φίλον σον η φίλον πατρώον μη εγκαταλίπης εις δε τον οίκον του αδελφού σου μη εισέλθης ατυχών κρείσσων φίλος εγγύς η αδελφός μακράν οικών
11Son, be wise, that thy heart may rejoice; and remove thou from thyself reproachful words.	σοφός γίνου υιέ ίνα ευφραίνηταί μου η καρδία και απόστρεψον από σου επονειδίστους λόγους
12A wise man, when evils are approaching, hides himself; but fools pass on, and will be punished.	πανούργος κακών επερχομένων απεκρύβη άφρονες δε επελθόντες ζημίαν τίσουσιν
13Take away the man's garment, (for a scorner has passed by) whoever lays waste another's goods.	αφελού το ιμάτιον αυτού παρήλθε γαρ υβριστής όστις τα αλλότρια λυμαίνεται
14Whosoever shall bless a friend in the morning with a loud voice, shall seem to differ nothing from one who curses him.	ος αν ευλογεί φίλον τοπρωϊ μεγάλη τη φωνή καταρωμένου ουδέν διαφέρειν δόξει
15On a stormy day drops of rain drive a man out of his house; so also does a railing woman drive a man out of his own house.	σταγόνες εκβάλλουσιν άνθρωπον εν ημέρα χειμερινή εκ του οίκου αυτού ωσαύτως και γυνή λοίδορος εκ του ιδίου οίκου
16The north wind is sharp, but it is called by name propitious.	βορέας σκληρός άνεμος ονόματι δε επιδέξιος καλείται
17Iron sharpens iron; and a man sharpens his friend's countenance.	σίδηρος σίδηρον οξύνει ανήρ δε παροξύνει πρόσωπον εταίρου
18He that plants a fig-tree shall eat the fruits of it: so he that waits on his own master shall be honoured.	ος φυτεύει συκήν φάγεται τους καρπούς αυτής ος δε φυλάσσει τον εαυτού κύριον τιμηθήσεται
19As faces are not like other faces, so neither are the thoughts of men.	ώσπερ ουχ όμοια πρόσωπα προσώποις ούτως ουδέ αι καρδίαι των ανθρώπων όμοιαι
20Hell and destruction are not filled; so also are the eyes of men insatiable. He that fixes his eye is an abomination to the Lord; and the uninstructed do not restrain their tongue.	άδης και απώλεια ουκ εμπίμπλανται ωσαύτως και οι οφθαλμοί των ανθρώπων άπληστοι βδέλυγμα κυρίω στηρίζων οφθαλμόν και οι απαίδευτοι ακρατείς γλώσση
21Fire is the trial for silver and gold; and a man is tried by the mouth of them that praise him. The heart of the transgressor seeks after mischiefs; but an upright heart seeks knowledge.	δοκίμιον αργυρίω και χρυσίω πύρωσις ανήρ δε δοκιμάζεται διά στόματος εγκωμιαζόντων αυτόν
22Though thou scourge a fool, disgracing him in the midst of the council, thou wilt still in no wise remove his folly from him.	εάν μαστιγοίς άφρονα εν μέσω συνεδρίω ατιμάζων ου περιέλης την αφροσύνην αυτού
23Do thou thoroughly know the number of thy flock, and pay attention to thine herds.	γνωστώς επιγνώση ψυχάς ποιμνίου σου και επιστήσεις καρδίαν σου σαις αγέλαις
24For a man has not strength and power for ever; neither does he transmit it from generation to generation.	ότι ουκ εις τον αιώνα ανδρί κράτος και ισχύς ουδέ παραδίδωσιν εκ γενεάς εις γενεάν
25Take care of the herbage in the field, and thou shalt cut grass, and gather the mountain hay;	επιμελού των εν τω πεδίω χλωρών και κερείς πόαν και συνάγαγε χόρτον ορεινόν
26that thou mayest have wool of sheep for clothing: pay attention to the land, that thou mayest have lambs.	ίνα έχης πρόβατα εις ιματισμόν τίμα πεδίον ίνα ωσί σοι άρνες
27My son, thou hast from me words very useful for thy life, and for the life of thy servants.	υιέ παρ΄ εμού έχεις ρήσεις ισχυράς εις την ζωήν σου και εις την ζωήν σων θεραπόντων

Chapter 28

1The ungodly man flees when no one pursues: but the righteous is confident as a lion.	φεύγει ασεβής μηδενός διώκοντος δίκαιος δε ώσπερ λέων πέποιθε
2By reason of the sins of ungodly men quarrels arise; but a wise man will quell them.	δι΄ αμαρτίας ασεβών κρίσεις εγείρονται ανήρ δε πανούργος κατασβέσει αυτάς
3A bold man oppresses the poor by ungodly deeds. As an impetuous and profitable rain,	ανδρείος εν ασεβείαις συκοφαντεί πτωχούς ώσπερ υετός λάβρος και ανωφωλής
4so they that forsake the law praise ungodliness; but they that love the law fortify themselves with a wall.	ούτως οι εγκαταλειπόντες τον νόμον εγκωμιάζουσιν ασέβειαν οι δε αγαπώντες τον νόμον περιβάλλουσιν εαυτοίς τείχος
5Evil men will not understand judgment: but they that seek the Lord will understand everything.	άνδρες κακοί ου νοήσουσι κρίμα οι δε ζητούντες τον κύριον συνήσουσιν εν παντί
6A poor man walking in truth is better than a rich liar.	κρείσσων πτωχός πορευόμενος εν αλήθεια πλουσίου ψευδούς
7A wise son keeps the law: but he that keeps up debauchery dishonours his father.	φυλάσσει νόμον υιός συνετός ος δε ποιμαίνει ασωτίαν ατιμάζει πατέρα αυτού
8He that increases his wealth by usuries and unjust gains, gathers it for him that pities the poor.	ο πληθύνων τον πλούτον αυτού μετά τόκων και πλεονασμών τω ελεούντι πτωχούς συνάγει αυτόν
9He that turns away his ear from hearing the law, even he has made his prayer abominable.	ο εκκλίνων το ους αυτού του μη ακούσαι νόμου και αυτός την προσευχήν αυτού εβδέλυκται
10He that causes upright men to err in an evil way, himself shall fall into destruction: transgressor also shall pass by prosperity, but shall not enter into it.	ος πλανά ευθείς εν οδώ κακή εις διαφθοράν αυτός εμπεσείται οι δε άνομοι διελεύσονται αγαθά και ουκ εισελεύσονται εις αυτά
11A rich man is wise in his own conceit; but an intelligent poor man will condemn him.	σοφός παρ΄ εαυτώ ανήρ πλούσιος πένης δε νοήμων καταγνώσεται αυτού
12By reason of the help of righteous men great glory arises: but in the places of the ungodly men are caught.	διά βοήθειαν δικαίων πολλή γίνεται δόξα εν δε τόποις ασεβών αλίσκονται άνθρωποι
13He that covers his own ungodliness shall not prosper: but he that blames himself shall be loved.	ο επικαλύπτων ασέβειαν αυτού ουκ ευοδωθήσεται ο δε εξηγούμενος και ελέγχων αγαπηθήσεται
14Blessed is the man who religiously fears always: but the hard of heart shall fall into mischiefs.	μακάριος ανήρ ος καταπτήσσει πάντα δι΄ ευλάβειαν ο δε σκληρός την καρδίαν εμπεσείται κακοίς
15A hungry lion and a thirsty wolf is he, who, being poor, rules over a poor nation.	λέων πεινών και λύκος διψών ος τυραννεί πτωχός ων έθνους πενιχρού
16A king in need of revenues is a great oppressor: but he that hates injustice shall live a long time.	βασιλεύς ενδεής προσόδων μέγας συκοφάντης ο δε μισών αδικίαν μακρόν χρόνον ζήσεται
17He that becomes surety for a man charged with murder shall be an exile, and not in safety. Chasten thy son, and he shall love thee, and give honour to thy soul: he shall not obey a sinful nation.	άνδρα τον εν αιτία φόνου ο εγγυώμενος φυγάς έσται και ουκ εν ασφαλεία
18He that walks justly is assisted: but he that walks in crooked ways shall be entangled therein.	ο πορευόμενος δικαιώς βεβοήθηται ο δε σκολιαίς οδοίς πορευόμενος εμπλακήσεται
19He that tills his own land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that follows idleness shall have plenty of poverty.	ο εργαζόμενος την εαυτού γην πλησθήσεται άρτων ο δε διώκων σχολήν πλησθήσεται πενίας
20A man worthy of credit shall be much blessed: but the wicked shall not be unpunished.	ανήρ αξιόπιστος πολλά ευλογηθήσεται ο δε κακός ουκ ατιμώρητος έσται
21He that reverences not the persons of the just is not good: such a one will sell a man for a morsel of bread.	ος ουκ αισχύνεται πρόσωπα δικαίων ουκ αγαθός ο τοιούτος ψωμού άρτου αποδώσεται άνδρα
22An envious man makes haste to be rich, and knows not that the merciful man will have the mastery over him.	σπεύδει πλουτείν ανήρ βάσκανος και ουκ οίδεν ότι ελεήμων κρατήσει αυτού
23He that reproves a man's ways shall have more favour than he that flatters with the tongue.	ο ελέγχων ανθρώπου οδούς χάριτας έξει μάλλον του γλωσσοχαριτούντος
24 He that casts off father or mother, and thinks he sins not; the same is partaker with an ungodly man.	ος αποβάλλεται πατέρα η μητέρα και δοκεί μη αμαρτάνειν ούτος κοινωνός εστιν ανδρός ασεβούς
25An unbelieving man judges rashly: but he that trusts in the Lord will act carefully.	άπληστος ανήρ κρινεί εική ος δε πέποιθεν επί κύριον εν επιμελεία έσται
26He that trusts to a bold heart, such an one is a fool: but he that walks in wisdom shall be safe.	ος πέποιθε θρασεία καρδία ο τοιούτος άφρων ος δε πορεύεται σοφία σωθήσεται
27He that gives to the poor shall not be in want: but he that turns away his eye from him shall be in great distress.	ος δίδωσι πτωχοίς ουκ ενδεηθήσεται ος δε αποστρέφει τον οφθαλμόν αυτού εν πολλή απορία έσται
28In the places of ungodly men the righteous mourn: but in their destruction the righteous shall be multiplied.	εν τόποις ασεβών στένουσι δίκαιοι εν δε τη εκείνων απωλεία πληθυνθήσονται δίκαιοι

Chapter 29

1A reprover is better than a stiff-necked man: for when the latter is suddenly set on fire, there shall be no remedy.	κρείσσων ανήρ ελέγχων ανδρός σκληροτραχήλου εξαπίνης γαρ φλεγομένου αυτού ουκ έστιν ίασις
2When the righteous are praised, the people will rejoice: but when the ungodly rule, men mourn.	εγκωμιαζομένων δικαίων ευφρανθήσονται λαοί αρχόντων δε ασεβών στένουσιν άνδρες
3When a man loves wisdom, his father rejoices: but he that keeps harlots will waste wealth.	ανδρός φιλούντος σοφίαν ευφραίνεται ο πατήρ αυτού ος δε ποιμαίνει πόρνας απολεί πλούτον
4A righteous king establishes a country: but a transgressor destroys it.	βασιλεύς δίκαιος ανίστησι χώραν ανήρ δε παράνομος κατασκάπτει
5He that prepares a net in the way of his own friend, entangles his own feet in it.	ος παρασκευάζεται επί πρόσωπον του εαυτού φίλου δίκτυον περιβαλλεί αυτό τοις εαυτού ποσίν
6A great snare is spread for a sinner: but the righteous shall be in joy and gladness.	αμαρτάνοντι ανδρί μεγάλη παγίς δίκαιος δε εν χαρά και εν ευφροσύνη έσται
7A righteous man knows how to judge for the poor: but the ungodly understands not knowledge; and the poor man has not an understanding mind.	επίσταται δίκαιος κρίνειν πενιχροίς ο δε ασεβής ου νοεί γνώσιν και πτωχώ ουχ υπάρχει νους επιγνώμων
8Lawless men burn down a city: but wise men turn away wrath.	άνδρες λοιμοί εξέκαυσαν πόλιν σοφοί δε απέστρεψαν οργήν
9A wise man shall judge nations: but a worthless man being angry laughs and fears not.	ανήρ σοφός κρινεί έθνη ανήρ δε φαύλος οργιζόμενος καταγελάται και ου καταπτήσσει
10Bloody men hate a holy person, but the upright will seek his soul.	άνδρες αιμάτων μέτοχοι μισήσουσιν όσιον οι δε ευθείς εκζητήσουσι ψυχήν αυτού
11A fool utters all is mind: but the wise reserves his in part.	όλον τον θυμόν αυτού εκφέρει ο άφρων σοφός δε ταμιεύεται κατά μέρος
12When a king hearkens to unjust language, all his subjects are transgressors.	βασιλέως υπακούοντος λόγον άδικον πάντες οι υπ΄ αυτόν παράνομοι
13When the creditor and debtor meet together, the Lord oversees them both.	δανειστού και χρεωφειλέτου αλλήλοις συνελθόντων επισκοπήν ποιείται αμφοτέρων ο κύριος
14When a king judges the poor in truth, his throne shall be established for a testimony.	βασιλέως εν αλήθεια κρίνοντος πτωχούς ο θρόνος αυτού εις μαρτύριον κατασταθήσεται
15Stripes and reproofs give wisdom: but an erring child disgraces his parents.	πληγαί και έλεγχοι διδόασι σοφίαν παις δε πλανώμενος αισχύνει γονείς αυτού
16When the ungodly abound, sins abound: but when they fall, the righteous are warned.	πολλών όντων ασεβών πολλαί γίνονται αμαρτίαι οι δε δίκαιοι εκείνων πιπτόντων κατάφοβοι γίνονται
17Chasten thy son, and he shall give thee rest; and he shall give honour to thy soul.	παίδευε υιόν σου και αναπαύσει σε και δώσει κόσμον τη ψυχή σου
18There shall be no interpreter to a sinful nation: but he that observes the law is blessed.	ου υπάρξη εξηγητής έθνει παρανόμω ο δε φυλάσσων τον νόμον μακάριστος
19A stubborn servant will not be reproved by words: for even if he understands, still he will not obey.	λόγοις ου παιδευθήσεται οικέτης σκληρός εάν γαρ και νοήση ουχ υπακούσεται
20If thou see a man hasty in his words, know that the fool has hope rather than he.	εάν ίδης άνδρα ταχύν εν λόγοις γίνωσκε ότι ελπίδα έχει μάλλον ο άφρων αυτού
21He that lives wantonly from a child, shall be a servant, and in the end shall grieve over himself.	ος κατασπαταλά εκ παιδός οικέτης έσται έσχατον δε οδυνηθήσεται εφ΄ εαυτώ
22A furious man stirs up strife, and a passionate man digs up sin.	ανήρ θυμώδης ορύσσει νείκος ανήρ δε οργίλος εξώρυξεν αμαρτίας
23Pride brings a man low, but the Lord upholds the humble-minded with honour.	ύβρις άνδρα ταπεινοί τους δε ταπεινόφρονας ερείδει δόξη κύριος
24He that shares with a thief, hates his own soul: and if any having heard an oath uttered tell not of it,	ος μερίζεται κλέπτη μισεί την εαυτού ψυχήν εάν δε όρκου προτεθέντος ακούσαντες μη αναγγείλωσι
25they fearing and reverencing men unreasonably have been overthrown, but he that trusts in the Lord shall rejoice. Ungodliness causes a man to stumble: but he that trusts in his master shall be safe.	φοβηθέντες και αισχυνθέντες ανθρώπους υπεσκελισθήσονται ο δε πεποιθώς επί κύριον ευφρανθήσεται ασέβεια ανδρί δίδωσι σφάλμα ο πεποιθώς επί τω δεσπότη σωθήσεται
26Many wait on the favour of rulers; but justice comes to a man from the Lord.	πολλοί θεραπεύουσι πρόσωπα ηγουμένων παρά δε κυρίου γίνεται το δίκαιον ανδρί
27A righteous man is an abomination to an unrighteous man, and the direct way is an abomination to the sinner.	βδέλυγμα δίκαιος ανήρ ανδρί αδίκω βδέλυγμα δε ανόμω κατευθύνουσα οδός

Chapter 30

1These things says the man to them that trust in God; and I cease.	τάδε λέγει ο ανήρ τοις πιστεύουσι θεώ και παύομαι
2For I am the most simple of all men, and there is not in me the wisdom of men.	αφρονέστατος γαρ ειμι απάντων ανθρώπων και φρόνησις ανθρώπου ουκ έστιν εν εμοί
3God has taught me wisdom, and I know the knowledge of the holy.	ο θεός δεδίδαχέ με σοφίαν και γνώσιν αγίων έγνωκα
4Who has gone up to heaven, and come down? who has gathered the winds in his bosom? who has wrapped up the waters in a garment? who has dominion of all the ends of the earth? what is his name? or what is the name of his children?	τις ανέβη εις τον ουρανόν και κατέβη τις συνήγαγεν ανέμους εν κόλπω τις συνέστρεψεν ύδωρ εν ιματίω τις εκράτησε πάντων των άκρων της γης τι όνομα αυτώ η τι όνομα τοις τέκνοις αυτού ίνα γνως
5For all the words of God are tried in the fire, and he defends those that reverence him.	πάντες γαρ λόγοι θεού πεπυρωμένοι υπερασπίζει δε αυτός των ευλαβουμένων αυτόν
6Add not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be made a liar.	μη προσθής τοις λόγοις αυτού ίνα μη ελέγξη σε και ψευδής γένη
7Two things I ask of thee; take not favour from me before I die.	δύο αιτούμαι παρά σου μη αφέλης μου χάριν προ του αποθανείν με
8Remove far from me vanity and falsehood: and give me not wealth or poverty; but appoint me what is needful and sufficient:	μάταιον λόγον και ψευδή μακράν μου ποίησον πλούτον δε και πενίαν μη μοι δως σύνταξον δε μοι τα δέοντα και τα αυτάρκη
9lest I be filled and become false, and say, Who sees me? or be poor and steal, and swear vainly by the name of God.	ίνα μη πλησθείς ψευδής γένωμαι και είπω τις με ορά η πενηθείς κλέψω και ομόσω το όνομα του θεού
10Deliver not a servant into the hands of his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be utterly destroyed.	μη παραδώς δούλον εις χείρας δεσπότου μή καταράσηταί σε και αφανισθής
11A wicked generation curse their father, and do not bless their mother.	έκγονον κακόν πατέρα καταράται της δε μητέρα ουκ ευλογεί
12A wicked generation judge themselves to be just, but do not cleanse their way.	έκγονον κακόν δίκαιον εαυτόν κρινεί την δε έξοδον αυτού ουκ απένιψεν
13A wicked generation have lofty eyes, and exalt themselves with their eyelids.	έκγονον κακόν υψηλούς οφθαλμούς έχει τοις δε βλεφάροις αυτού επαίρεται
14A wicked generation have swords for teeth and jaw-teeth as knives, so as to destroy and devour the lowly from the earth, and the poor of them from among men.	έκγονον κακόν μαχαίρας οδόντας έχει και τας μύλας τομίδας ώστε αναλίσκειν τους ασθενείς από της γης και τους πένητας αυτών εξ ανθρώπων
15The horse-leech had three dearly-beloved daughters: and these three did not satisfy her; and the fourth was not contented so as to say, Enough.	τη βδέλλη τρεις θυγατέρες ήσαν αγαπήσει αγαπώμεναι αι τρεις αύται ουκ ενεπίμπλασαν αυτήν και η τετάρτη ουκ ηρκέσθη ειπείν ικανόν
16The grave, and the love of a woman, and the earth not filled with water; water also and fire will not say, It is enough.	άδης και έρως γυναικός και γη ουκ εμπιπλαμένη ύδατος και ύδωρ και πυρ ου είπωσιν αρκεί
17The eye that laughs to scorn a father, and dishonours the old age of a mother, let the ravens of the valleys pick it out, and let the young eagles devour it.	οφθαλμόν καταγελώντα πατρός και ατιμάζοντα γήρας μητρός εκκόψαισαν αυτόν κόρακες εκ των φαράγγων και καταφάγοισαν αυτόν νεοσσοί αετών
18Moreover there are three things impossible for me to comprehend, and the fourth I know not:	τρία δε εστιν αδύνατά μοι νοήσαι και το τέταρτον ουκ επιγινώσκω
19the track of a flying eagle; and the ways of a serpent on a rock; and the paths of a ship passing through the sea; and the ways of a man in youth.	ίχνη αετού πετομένου και οδούς όφεως επί πέτρας και τρίβους νηός ποντοπορούσης και οδούς ανδρός εν νεότητι
20Such is the way of an adulterous woman, who having washed herself from what she has done, says she has done nothing amiss.	τοιαύτη οδός γυναικός μοιχαλίδος η όταν πράξη απονιψαμένη ουδέν φησι πεπραχέναι άτοπον
21By three thing the earth is troubled, and the fourth it cannot bear:	διά τριών σείεται η γη το δε τέταρτον ου δύναται φέρειν
22if a servant reign; or a fool be filled with food;	εάν οικέτης βασιλεύση και άφρων πλησθή σιτίων
23or if a maid-servant should cast out her own mistress; and if a hateful woman should marry a good man.	και οικέτις εάν εκβάλη την εαυτής κυρίαν και μισητή γυνή εάν τύχη ανδρός αγαθού
24And there are four very little things upon the earth, but these are wiser than the wise:	τέσσαρα δε εστιν ελάχιστα επί της γης ταύτα δε εστι σοφώτερα των σοφών
25the ants which are weak, and yet prepare their food in summer;	οι μύρμηκες οις μη εστιν ισχύς και ετοιμάζονται θέρους την τροφήν
26the rabbits also are a feeble race, who make their houses in the rocks.	και οι χοιρογρύλλιοι έθνος ουκ ισχυρόν οι εποιήσαντο εν πέτραις τους εαυτών οίκους
27The locusts have no king, and yet march orderly at one command.	αβασίλευτόν εστιν η ακρίς και εκστρατεύει αφ΄ ενός κελεύσματος ευτάκτως
28And the eft, which supports itself by its hands, and is easily taken, dwells in the fortresses of kings.	και καλαβώτης χερσίν ερειδόμενος και ευάλωτος ων κατοικεί εν οχυρώμασι βασιλέων
29And there are three things which go well, and a fourth which passes along finely.	τρία δε εστιν α ευόδως πορεύεται και το τέταρτον ο καλώς διαβαίνει
30A lion's whelp, stronger than all other beasts, which turns not away, nor fears any beast;	σκύμνος λέοντος ισχυρότερος κτηνών ος ουκ αποστρέφεται ουδέ καταπτήσσει κτήνος
31and a cock walking in boldly among the hens, and the goat leading the herd; and a king publicly speaking before a nation.	και αλέκτωρ εμπεριπατών εν θηλείαις ευψύχως και τράγος ηγούμενος αιπολίου και βασιλεύς δημηγορών εν έθνει
32If thou abandon thyself to mirth, and stretch forth thine hand in a quarrel, thou shalt be disgraced.	εάν πρόη σεαυτόν εις ευφροσύνη και εκτείνης την χείρά σου μετά μάχης ατιμασθήση
33Milk out milk, and there shall be butter, and if thou wing one's nostrils there shall come out blood: so if thou extort words, there will come forth quarrels and strifes.	άμελγε γάλα και έσται βούτυρον εάν δε εκπιέζης μυκτήρας εξελεύσεται αίμα εάν δε εξέλκης λόγους εξελεύσονται κρίσεις και μάχαι

Chapter 31

1My words have been spoken by God—the oracular answer of a king, whom his mother instructed.	οι εμοί λόγοι είρηνται υπό θεού βασιλέως χρηματισμός ον επαίδευσεν η μήτηρ αυτού
2What wilt thou keep, my son, what? the words of God. My firstborn son, I speak to thee: what? son of my womb? what? son of my vows?	τι τέκνον τηρήσεις τι ρήσεις θεού πρωτογενές σοι λεγω υιέ τι τέκνον εμής κοιλίας τι τέκνον εμών ευχών
3Give not thy wealth to women, nor thy mind and living to remorse. Do all things with counsel: drink wine with counsel.	μη δως γυναιξί σον πλούτον και τον σον νουν και βίον εις υστεροβουλίαν μετά βουλής πάντα ποίει μετά βουλής οινοπότει
4Princes are prone to anger: let them then not drink wine:	οι δυνάσται θυμώδεις εισίν οίνον μη πινέτωσαν
5lest they drink, and forget wisdom, and be not able to judge the poor rightly.	ίνα μη πίνοντες επιλάθωνται της σοφίας και ορθά κρινείν ου δύνωνται τους ασθενείς
6Give strong drink to those that are in sorrow, and the wine to drink to those in pain:	δίδοτε μέθην τοις εν λύπαις και οίνον πίνειν τοις εν οδύναις
7that they may forget their poverty, and may not remember their troubles any more.	ίνα επιλάθωνται της πενίας και των πόνων μη μνησθώσιν έτι
8Open thy mouth with the word of God, and judge all fairly.	υιέ άνοιγε σον στόμα λόγω θεού και κρίνε πάντας υγιώς
9Open thy mouth and judge justly, and plead the cause of the poor and weak.	άνοιγε σον στόμα και κρίνε δικαιώς διάκρινε δε πένητα και ασθενή
10Who shall find a virtuous woman? for such a one is more valuable than precious stones.	γυναίκα ανδρείαν τις ευρήσει τιμιωτέρα δε εστι λίθων πολυτελών η τοιαύτη
11The heart of her husband trusts in her: such a one shall stand in no need of fine spoils.	θαρσεί επ΄ αυτή η καρδία του ανδρός αυτής η τοιαύτη καλών σκύλων ουκ απορήσει
12For she employs all her living for her husband's good.	ενεργεί γαρ τω ανδρί αγαθόν και ου κακόν πάντα τον βίον
13Gathering wool and flax, she makes it serviceable with her hands.	μηρυομένη έρια και λίνον εποίησεν εύχρηστα ταις χερσίν αυτής
14She is like a ship trading from a distance: so she procures her livelihood.	εγένετο ωσεί ναυς εμπορευομένη μακρόθεν συνάγει αυτής τον πλούτον
15And she rises by night, and gives food to her household, and appointed tasks to her maidens.	και ανίσταται εκ νυκτών και έδωκε βρώματα τω οίκω και έργα ταις θεραπαίναις
16She views a farm, and buys it: and with the fruit of her hands she plants and a possession.	θεωρήσασα γεώργιον επρίατο από δε καρπών χειρών αυτής κατεφύτευσε κτήμα
17She strongly girds her loins, and strengthens her arms for work.	αναζωσαμένη ισχυρώς την οσφύν αυτής ήρεισε τους βραχίονας αυτής εις έργον
18And she finds by experience that working is good; and her candle goes not out all night.	εγεύσατο ότι καλόν εστι το εργάζεσθαι και ουκ αποσβέννυται ο λύχνος αυτής όλην την νύκτα
19She reaches forth her arms to needful works, and applies her hands to the spindle.	τους πήχεις αυτής εκτείνει επί τα συμφέροντα τας δε χείρας αυτής ερείδει εις άτρακτον
20And she opens her hands to the needy, and reaches out fruit to the poor.	χείρας δε αυτής διήνοιξε πένητι καρπόν εξέτεινε πτωχώ
21Her husband is not anxious about those at home when he tarries anywhere abroad: for all her household are clothed.	ου φροντίζει των εν οίκω ο ανήρ αυτής όταν που χρονίζη πάντες γαρ οι παρ΄ αυτής ενδεδυμένοι εισί
22She makes for her husband clothes of double texture, and garments for herself of fine linen and scarlet.	δισσάς χλαίνας εποίησε τω ανδρί αυτής εκ δε βύσσου και πορφύρας εαυτή ενδύματα
23And her husband becomes a distinguished person in the gates, when he sits in council with the old inhabitants of the land.	περίβλεπτος δε γίνεται ο ανήρ αυτής εν πύλαις ηνίκα αν καθίση εν συνεδρίω μετά των γερόντων της γης
24She makes fine linens, and sells girdles to the Chananites: she opens her mouth heedfully and with propriety, and controls her tongue.	σινδόνας εποίησε και απέδοτο περιζώματα τοις Χαναναίοις
25She puts on strength and honour; and rejoices in the last days.	ισχύν και ευπρέπειαν ενεδύσατο και ευφράνθη εν ημέραις εσχάταις
26But she opens her mouth wisely, and according to law.	στόμα δε αυτής ανοίγει σοφώς και νομοθέσμως η δε ελεημοσυνη αυτης εν τη γλωσση
27The ways of her household are careful, and she eats not the bread of idleness.	στεγναί διατριβαί οίκω αυτής σίτα δε οκνηρά ουκ έφαγε
28And her kindness to them sets up her children for them, and they grow rich, and her husband praises her.	ανέστησε τα τέκνα αυτής και επλούτησαν και ο ανήρ αυτής ήνεσεν αυτήν
29Many daughters have obtained wealth, many have wrought valiantly; but thou hast exceeded, thou hast surpassed all.	πολλαί θυγατέρες εκτήσαντο πλούτον πολλαί εποίησαν δύναμιν συ δε υπέρκεισαι υπερήρας πάσας
30Charms are false, and woman's beauty is vain: for it is a wise woman that is blessed, and let her praise the fear the Lord.	ψευδείς αρέσκειαι και μάταιον κάλλος ουκ έστιν εν σοι γυνή γαρ συνετή ευλογείται φόβον δε κυρίου αυτή αινείτω
31Give her of the fruit of her lips; and let her husband be praised in the gates.	δότε αυτή από καρπών χειρών αυτής και αινείσθω εν πύλαις ο ανήρ αυτής
