I was in this unit and it was friendly fire. There hurry to get back to the tanks they crossed each others line of fire. I can't remember the guy (he was in the HQ scout Platoon-I was in Alfa Company) that had his backside nearly shot off and half of one of his hands but he was able to evac wounded soldiers. Then call for help on the radio, then use a flare that takes two hands to use to guide medic track to his location. A the while under small arms fire.
