"Tam Lin", (Child #39) also spelled "Tamlane", "Tamlin", "Tam-a-Line", "Tam Lyn", "Tam Lane", and other similar variants, is a traditional Scottish folk tale originating in ballads from the Scottish Borders. The oldest extant version, "The Tayl of the Ȝong Tamlene", is found in The Complaynt of Scotland (1529).
