Ludwig Tieck's drama Puss in Boots (Der gestiefelte Kater) was written in 1797 and first published that year in the first volume of Tieck's three-volume collection Volksmärchen herausgegeben von Peter Lebrecht (Folk-Tales Edited by Peter Lebrecht); it also appeared separately the same year. It was republished in 1816 in the collection Phantasus (Part II).
