The Laws of Betrothing and Marrying on Hol Hamoed |
דיני ארוסין ונשואין בחול המועד |

Paragraph 1 - We do not marry women on hol hamoed, neither virgins nor widows, nor do we perform levirate marriages. It is permitted to betroth, though one should not do festive engagement meals in the house of the betrothed at the time of betrothal. It is permitted to do dancing. It is permitted to have engagement meals with relatives not in the house of the engaged. It is permitted to have engagement meals in the house of the engaged at a time other than the time of betrothal. |
סעיף א - אין נושאין נשים במועד, לא בתולות ולא אלמנות, ולא מיבמין. ומותר לארס, ובלבד שלא יעשה סעודת אירוסין הארוס בבית ארוסתו בשעת אירוסין. ומותר לעשות ריקודין ומחולות. ולעשות סעודת הארוס עם מריעיו שלא בבית ארוסתו, וכן לסעוד הארוס בבית ארוסתו שלא בשעת אירוסין, מותר |

Paragraph 2 - It is permitted for one to return to his divorcee who he had previously married. |
סעיף ב - מותר להחזיר גרושתו מן הנשואין. |

Paragraph 3 - It is permitted to marry everybody – virgins and widows – on the eve of the holiday and to [then] do festive holiday meals. |
סעיף ג - הכל מותרים לישא בערב הרגל ולעשות סעודה ברגל, בין בתולות בין אלמנות.. |

Paragraph 4 - It is permitted to do festive meals for a circumcision or for the redemption of the firstborn son on the holiday. |
סעיף ד - מותר לעשות ברגל סעודת ברית מילה וכן סעודת פדיון הבן.. |

Paragraph 5 - A woman can apply makeup on the holiday. She may paint her eyelids, rouge ‘’(Meaning she parts her hair according to Rashi)’’, apply paint to her face, apply lime on the body, and similar things. These are permitted providing she will be able to remove it on the holiday. She may remove her armpit and pubic hair, both by hand and with a tool. She may use a razor on her forehead. |
סעיף ה - עושה אשה תכשיטיה במועד. כוחלת ופוקסת (פירוש, מחלקת שערה לכאן ולכאן, רש"י) ומעברת סרק על פניה וטופלת עצמה בסיד וכיוצא בו, והוא שתוכל לסלקו במועד. ומעברת שער מבית השחי ומבית הערוה, בין ביד בין בכלי, ומעברת סכין על פדחתה.
