597:1[edit]One should eat, drink, rejoice, and not fast on Rosh Hashanah and on Shabbat Shuvah. However, one does not eat to full satiation lest their head gets unserious. The fear of God should be on one's face. |
סעיף א אוכלים ושותים ושמחים ואין מתענין בר"ה ולא בשבת שובה אמנם לא יאכלו כל שבעם למען לא יקלו ראשם ותהיה יראת ה' על פניהם: |
597:2[edit]There are places that have the received tradition regarding somebody who regularly fasts on Rosh Hashanah but changes his practice one year and does not fast that he will not live the whole year. Rem"a: One who does not fear for his soul does not need to fast his whole life (Kol Bo and Minhagim) but does need to be formally released, just as for any other vow (Kol Bo). |
סעיף ב יש מקומות שקבלה בידם שכל מי שרגיל להתענות בראש השנה ומשנה רגילתו ואינו מתענה אינו משלים שנתו: הגה ומי שאינו ירא לנפשו א"צ להתענות כל ימיו (כל בו ומנהגים) רק צריך התרה כמו שאר נדר. (כל בו): |
597:3[edit]If one fasted for a dream on Rosh Hashanah once, if it was on the first day, he must fast both days for the rest of his life. If it was on the second day, he only must fast the second day. Rem"a: He does not need to fast as compensation for his fast, as there is an opinion that it is a mitzvah to fast on Rosh Hashanah (Trumat Hadeshen 245). We do not say "Answer us" on Rosh Hashanah just like we do not say "Answer us" on Yom Kippur (Hagahot and Minhagim). |
