The obligation to read the Megilah |
דיני חיוב קריאת המגילה |
687:1[edit]One is obligated to read the megillah at night and return and repeat it during the day. And for the [reading] at night - its time is all night, and for the [reading] during the day - its time is all day, from sunrise until the end of the day; and if one read it from daybreak - they have fulfilled the obligation. |
סעיף א חייב אדם לקרות המגילה בלילה ולחזור ולשנותה ביום ושל לילה זמנה כל הלילה ושל יום זמנה כל היום מהנץ החמה עד סוף היום ואם קראה משעלה עמוד השחר יצא: |
687:2[edit]We cancel Torah learning to hear the megillah, all the more so for the rest of the mitzvot of the Torah, because all of them are pushed aside for the reading of the megillah; there isn't anything that supersedes megillah besides an unclaimed dead body that does not have anyone to bury it (completely), because the one who happens upon it must bury it first and later reads [the megillah]. Rem"a: And all of this is only dealing with [a situation] in which one is able to do both of them. But if it is impossible to do both of them, there is no Torah mitzvah that is superseded by megillah (Ran and Beit Yosef in the name of the Tosafot and Mehar"a Mizrachi). That which we said regarding the unclaimed dead body having first priority applies specifically when it will be possible to read later (Mehara Mizrachi). |
סעיף ב מבטלים תלמוד תורה לשמוע מקרא מגילה קל וחומר לשאר מצות של תורה שכלם נדחים מפני מקרא מגילה שאין לך דבר שנדחה מקרא מגילה מפניו חוץ ממת מצוה שאין לו קוברין [כדי צרכו] שהפוגע בו קוברו תחלה ואח"כ קורא: הגה וכל זה לא מיירי אלא בדאיכא שהות לעשות שתיהן אבל אם אי אפשר לעשות שתיהן אין שום מצוה דאורייתא נדחית מפני מקרא מגילה [ר"ן וב"י בשם תוס' ומהר"א מזרחי] והא דמת מצוה קודם היינו דוקא בדאפשר לו לקראה אח"כ [מהר"א מזרחי]: |
