Chap. LX.—An Act making appropriations to pay the expenses in holding certain Indian treaties.
Appropriations for holding Indian treaties.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums be appropriated, to be paid out of any money in the treasury, not otherwise appropriated, for the objects herein specified, viz:
Expenses of commissioners.For payment of the expenses incurred by the commissioners in preparing for and holding treaties with the Winnebago Indians, and also, with the Chippewas, Ottawas, and Pattawatamies, and the council held with the Sacs and Foxes, at Prairie du Chien, in July and August, one thousand eight hundred and twenty-nine, eight thousand nine hundred and ninety-four dollars and fourteen cents.
Reimbursement of compensation to commissioners.For reimbursing the “contingencies of the Indian department,” this amount paid from said contingencies to General McNeil and Mr. Atwater, on account of their compensation, two thousand three hundred and ninety-four dollars and sixty cents.
Compensation to commissioners.For payment of compensation yet due to one of the commissioners, seven hundred and fifty-three dollars and forty-three cents.
Compensation to secretary.For payment of the compensation and all other services of the secretary of the commission, four hundred and thirty dollars.
Presents.For payment of a draft drawn by the commissioners on the Secretary of War, on account of presents to the Sacs and Foxes, eight hundred and fifty dollars.
Services of, &c.For paying Doctor Alexander Walcott, General H. Dodge, John H. Kenzie, and Henry Gratiot, for services rendered by them in negotiating the said treaties, six hundred dollars.
