The Chance for Peace[edit]

If you want to add a different transcription from a different source, you can do that, but it must be under a new title. The existing copy is a valid edition sourced from a presidential library. Wikisource is not limited to a single edition of a work, and frequently hosts multiple editions sourced from different originals. But it would be improper to replace one sourced copy with a copy from a different source. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:06, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

@EncycloPetey: The evidence from the tape shows that the version presented by the Eisenhower library is a cleaned up version of what was actually said. This type of clean up is of no value as far as I can see. Therefore I just made the changes and added my source. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:16, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
I understand, but that's not how Wikisource works. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:31, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EncycloPetey: Can we add some kind of note to the top of the article letting readers get some kind of clue that we know that this transcription is actually horse shit? --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:33, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
There were some big differences near the end that I just didn't get into. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:34, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
We don't editorialize. We can present each edition, and identify the source for each. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:35, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EncycloPetey: I believe that this is the heart of the problem: we are not presenting the source of the text. The reason I felt so free to correct the speech is because the page presents itself as the words Eisenhower said, rather than as the bullshit transcription that it is. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:39, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
Sources are usually either scans or a website. When the source is a scan, there will be a tab linking to the source file. When the source is a website, the source information is typically given on the Talk page. --EncycloPetey (talk) 00:40, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EncycloPetey: Thank you for your time. I am making a complaint about this mistaken policy to the Scriptorium. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:46, 11 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
