I'll note a couple of things before you expend any more effort on Austen's work. It is likely that the 'second-hand transcript' you are working on will eventually be replaced by one based on a scans of an original copy, eg. Love and Freindship and other early works. The bogus formatting, and any errors, can be fixed when it is. If you are interested in contributing to a verifiable transcript, I would be more than happy to set it up and help.
