A couple of comments on style in Cheeseman

[edit]

Hi, thank you for the work you've been doing on Cheeseman. It is much appreciated. I thought I'd drop you a couple of comments on style—so that we can be consistent in our approach.

  • Punctuation belongs inside the italics and bold markers for this work.
  • Ranges are indicated by using an en-dash (–) rather than a hyphen (-). For example, ¼–½ or December–January.
  • Wikisource policy is to remove spaces around em-dashes.

There are some other style decisions I made a while back on the Index talk:Manual of the New Zealand Flora.djvu, which you might not have seen. Some of these were made in consultation with a NZ plant taxonomist with the aim of making the book as useful as possible.

Thanks again for your contributions, Beeswaxcandle (talk) 19:55, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Beeswaxcandle: Hi! Sorry, I'm new - this is my new lockdown hobby - and I'm learning as I go. I fully take these comments on board and will work this way going forward. Please let me know if you see anything else I'm doing consistently wrong - I'd rather receive the feedback then keep making more work for others unknowingly. I'll be heading back over my 900's work to fix up things with what I've learned so far - I'll keep playing down there :). Katjnz

Botanical authorities

[edit]

Hi, for the botanical authorities that aren't yet listed on the Index talk: page, I mostly use w:List of botanists by author abbreviation (A), with occasional forays into the print resources in our personal library. Beeswaxcandle (talk) 22:47, 20 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

An afghan for you!

[edit]
(The afghan is the unofficial biscuit of Wikimedia Aotearoa.)

Kia ora Kat; it was great to see you at the Wikisource tutorial. Good to see Beeswaxcandle is helping you out. When you're getting started editing it really helps to have some mentoring, so I encourage you to check out the Wikimedia NZ Facebook group, join us for the monthly Aotearoa online meetup, leave a message on my Talk page, or just email me if you have a question. Ka kite ano. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 07:09, 23 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
