Copyright rules for Wikisource[edit]

I've added Sonnet of the Garland of Roses to Wikisource:Possible_copyright_violations#Translation:Sonnet_of_the_Garland_of_Roses. Wikisource follows US law; all works published before 1923 are in the public domain (95 years of copyright from publication, but with an works published before 1923 didn't have their copyrights restored.) There's a lot of exceptions; works whose work was in the public domain in their home nation in 1996 might be out of copyright, if they didn't specifically apply and maintain US copyright, but the US does not, besides that exception, follow the rule of the shorter term. Some Wikisource contributors maintain Wikilivres, a Wikisource-like site (that's not part of the Wikimedia foundation) that follows Canadian law, life+50, that might be more amenable to translations of work not old enough to be PD in the US.--Prosfilaes (talk) 21:31, 9 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

OK, copied to wikilivres:Sonnet of the Garland of Roses. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:20, 10 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
