Speedy request

[edit]

@Cygnis insignis, @Ratte: Regarding this revert. I have no particular opinion on the relative merits of the two indexes; but there's no provision in the deletion policy for speedily deleting this Index: page because the two scans are of different editions of the work. If you want this deleted you will have to take it to WS:PD for a regular deletion discussion.

I also suggested that you bring it to either WS:S or WS:S/H because this index is part of a full set with a consistent naming schema, and possibly also of a consistent set of editions (I haven't checked), which should be taken into account when deciding how to deal with it. Depending on how one weighs various factors one can land on different solutions here; anything from just switching to Index:Works of Thomas Carlyle - Volume 22 (US).djvu to renaming or overwriting to preserve the naming schema. These are not issues that can be handled as a speedy deletion, and is also beyond the scope of a normal deletion discussion. Even if we did have a provision for this situation in the criteria for speedy deletion I would be hesitant to apply them here without giving the original contributor a chance to participate in the discussion.

PS. The other issue you refer to in your edit summary is not relevant to dealing with these indexes, and it is not appropriate to make such comments about a named contributor in an edit summary (regardless of merit). Please bring it up properly at WS:S or WS:AN depending on what sort of issue you consider it to be. --Xover (talk) 12:09, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

How would we feel about proofreading a work and finding it was already done? CYGNIS INSIGNIS 12:15, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Cygnis insignis: I don't know who "we" is in this context, and I don't understand the relevance of the question. Xover (talk) 13:48, 30 July 2021 (UTC)Reply
