related author usage

- billinghurst: I was using {{illustrator}} in "notes=", for the illustrator, but this seemed much better since there are occasionally other things for "notes". Is this a problem?--RaboKarbakian (talk) 01:39, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- @RaboKarbakian: Well, yes. It is not obvious why you added it as you have removed the context, plus we set up {{illustrator}} to be a standard, and you are going away from the standard that we have been using. Also, using the illustrator template allows us to backlink and assess based on its usage. <shrug> We arrived at our standards by conversation and consensus, they just don't pop out of the air, so please give the community the courtesy of the conversation. — billinghurst sDrewth 02:43, 10 January 2023 (UTC)

- billinghurst I have seen that template almost 100% of the time used by Akme. One day pretty soon, the header will probably pull everything in from wd. Is the reason you put the #if logic into the template related to the reason you did not put that same logic into the header instead? I also think the illustrator is more of a "related author" than a "notes".--RaboKarbakian (talk) 17:00, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- If Akme is doing the same wrong thing, then that will be seen and corrected; and you should be calling it out not copying it when it is contrary to the style guide.
If you want to look at the history of what and why we do things with Template:Illustrator, then please go and look it up, and take a conversation from there. At this point in time the related_author is not being used for illustrator as it was more looking to identify the subjects of the page, and your use does not give that context to what it means. If you think that the consensus of the community needs to be updated, then have that conversation with the community. — billinghurst sDrewth 21:40, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- I am very confused. On texts, I have never seen anything that needs "calling out". To be clear about that, with no confusion. Right now, I have no idea what it is that you want done. Use the illustrator template or not use the illustrator template. Sometimes I have red links there because I need to make the author page and that red link is helpful. If the request is that I use the illustrator template, have you seen that I have been using notes for "listen:" sometimes also? Which leads me to a question. Have you seen something like Index:File Name-blah.ogg or Index:File Name-blah.flac in your wanderings? Also, I have a question about one of the authors in this issue.
