Documentation[edit]

This template simplifies formatting text in Small caps, where lowercase letters are replaced with smaller capital letters. This template should be substituted by using it as such: {{subst:small-caps|Text}}.unsigned comment by Pathoschild (talk) 22:44, 1 April 2006.

Discussions[edit]

Why should it be substituted (with subst:)? — Monedula 09:07, 22 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I dont see the benefit of subst'ing the template. John Vandenberg 16:39, 17 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Shall we remove that recommendation, then? Unless anyone's got a reason for using subst. Sam Wilson (Australia) contrib's | talk 02:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Using {{sc}} instead[edit]

Is {{sc}} considered an alias of this, or is it deprecated? It's just quicker to type. Sam Wilson (Australia) contrib's | talk 02:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's an alias (a 'redirect' in MediaWiki terminology). —{admin} Pathoschild 04:34:51, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
In that case, should we list the short version, instead of the long, on Wikisource:Style guide#Article formatting? —Sam Wilson (Australia) contrib's | talk 02:29, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so; the long version is more intuitive, particularly given the many different short template names (ccl, sc, pl, PD, ref, tl, -, {{!}}...). Article formatting templates should be as intuitive as possible, so new editors can easily guess what a template does and how to use it when they read the edit code. —{admin} Pathoschild 08:12:08, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
