Not shechting into a pit

שלא לשחוט בתוך גומא

Contains two Seif

ובו שני סעיפים:

Seif 1

We do not shecht into a depression even indoors. If he doesn't want to soil his house with blood, he makes an ramp outside the pit and shechts there, so the blood flows down to the pit. But in the open market don't do this.

אין שוחטין לתוך הגומא אפילו בבית. ואם לא היה רוצה ללכלך ביתו בדם – עושה מקום מדרון חוץ לגומא, ושוחט שם, והדם שותת ויורד לגומא. ובשוק לא יעשה כן.

Seif 2

Some say if he shechted in a pit in the open market, it's forbiddened to eat from his shechita until they check him out lest he's an apikoros/ apostate (Rambam Hilkhot Shechita 2:6). And some say it's permitted after the fact and there's no need to check (Rashba T"H Shaar 3; Mordekhai in the name of R"AM)

Rema: Today, when idolatry isn't practiced that way, it's preferable to permit it after the fact. (Ohr Zarua; Shechitot HR"M of Medlingen)

יש אומרים שאם שחט בגומא בשוק – אסור לאכול משחיטתו עד שיבדקו אחריו שמא אפיקורס הוא ( רמב"ם פ"ב מהלכות שחיטה הלכה ו'. ובעל העיטור). ויש אומרים שמותר בדיעבד ואין צריך בדיקה (רשב"א בת"ה שער ג' ומרדכי בשם רא"מ).

הגה: ובזמן הזה דאין דרך עובדי כוכבים בכך – יש להתיר בדיעבד (אור זרוע, ובשחיטות הר"מ ממדלינגן).
