He stuck a knife in a wheel. May he shecht with it?
הקובע בגלגל, אם מותר לשחוט בו

A man may fix a knife in a wheel that is stone or wood, and turn the wheel manually or with his foot, and put the beast's or bird's neck till it shechts by the wheel's rotation.
And if water is what turns the wheel and he puts the neck against it when it turns and he shechts with it — behold it's forbidden (verbatim Rambam hilkhot shechita 2:13)
And if a man releases (PTR) the water, till it comes and turns the wheel, and he shechts by its rotation, behold this is kosher after the fact, because you see it's due to man's power. Under what conditions? With the first turn that is from man's power, but with second or later turns, his shechita is invalid, as you see it's not from the man's power but rather the power of the water running.
יכול אדם לקבוע סכין בגלגל של אבן או של עץ, ומסבב הגלגל בידו או ברגלו, ומשים שם צואר הבהמה או העוף עד שישחט בסביבת הגלגל.
ואם המים הם המסבבים את הגלגל ושם הצואר כנגדו בשעה שסבב ונשחט – הרי זו פסולה (לשון הרמב"ם פ"ב מהלכות שחיטה דין י"ג).
ואם פטר אדם את המים, עד שבאו וסיבבו את הגלגל, ושחט בסיבובו – הרי זה כשר בדיעבד, שהרי מכח אדם בא. במה דברים אמורים: בסיבוב ראשון שהוא מכח אדם, אבל מסיבוב שני ואילך – השחיטה פסולה, שהרי אינה מכח האדם אלא מכח האדם אלא מכח המים בהילוכן.
