Wikisource translations[edit]

Hello. Thanks very much for contributing here, but I have to draw your attention to WS:Translations#Wikisource original translations which states that only translations of texts whose scan supported original language version is present on the appropriate language wiki are allowed to be hosted here. This means that the work must have been published in the original language, which is Serbian in our case, this original work must not be copyrighted, the scans of this work must be uploaded to Commons and proofread at the Serbian Wikisource. Only then their translation can be hosted here.

Unfortunately, the work you are translating has two problems: The original Serbian text seems to be copyrighted, and it was not proofread at the Serbian Wikisource. I am very sorry, but this means that the work cannot be hosted here. However, I believe there are a lot of other, published translations of Serbian works into English which are in the public domain and which can be proofread here. For details see Help:Adding texts.

Thanks very much for understanding. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 23:36, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jan, what could you tell me about this text that I used to translate: Vladika Nikolaj Velimirovic: Indijska pisma (Beograd: Evro, 2000). Please, take atention that this edition's year is not the year of writting (the original was written in 1941/42). If this text is OK, could you please put it to the Serbian wikisource? Жабыш (talk) 08:17, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If after this you insist on completely deleting my translation, then please do not delete it, but move it to the internal space of my page as follows: User:Жабыш/India_letters
Hope for understanding. Жабыш (talk) 08:23, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, English Wikisource follows American copyright laws, according to which a work published outside the US gets into the public domain 96 years after its publication. So if the work was published in 1941/42, it will not be elligible to be hosted here until 2037/38. This applies to all Wikisource namespaces, and so moving the work to your user's namespace would not solve anything. If you want, you can save your work to your computer now, but it will have to be deleted from here. I am really very sorry about this, but there is nothing that could be done. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 22:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I temporarly moved the text of my translation to my User space. The procedure to move it to others storage spaces, I will make later. So, now you can already delete the main page with the translation if impossible to save it according to the rules :( Жабыш (talk) 08:36, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I have deleted the translation page now, but it cannot stay in the user space for long either. Please find some other place for it as soon as possible so that we can remove it from there too.
However, if you are interested in the work of Nikolaj Velimirović, there are some works by him that can be added here, such as The Soul of Serbia. If you want, I can help you to create an index page to proofread and transcribe the book here. For an example of such an index page see e. g. here. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 09:37, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry that currently I don't have enought time for the very interesting book you suggested. However, I have found the proofread text here, which you can take to the wikisource: The Golden Ship library. Жабыш (talk) 11:33, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, English Wikisource does not accept second-hand transcriptions anymore, we transcribe works directly from the originals. Maybe, if you have more time in the future, you can transcribe the book later. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 16:11, 28 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
