Letters to friends/7.2[edit]

Thanks very much for contributing here. May I just ask about the source the text you added to Letters to friends/7.2? --Jan Kameníček (talk) 10:26, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No worries! It's a 1908-9 translation by Evelyn S. Shuckburgh, retrieved from Perseus Akoge Y (talk) 11:01, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. I could not find it there because in Wikisource it is marked by roman number CXXVII, while in the given source it is marked CLXXXI. What is more, in WS it is preceded by To M. Marius at Cumae, while in the given source it is preceded by TO APPIUS CLAUDIUS PULCHER (IN CILICIA). I guess there will be more discrepancies between the WS version and the source. :-( --Jan Kameníček (talk) 11:35, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, yeah the different numbering conventions are a pain with the letters. I *think* the CLXXXI is how the letter is numbered in the particular source used by Perseus while the 7.2 is used more widely. I was just testing out the page creation and didn't check what source WS might've been using for the other letters, my bad! Akoge Y (talk) 11:47, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It would probably be better to upload original scans of the translation, e.g. from https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/001220798 , and transcribe the work through the ProofreadPage extension. An example of such proofreading can be seen e.g. at Index:Seven Years in South Africa v1.djvu. Would you like to try it? I can help you anytime you will need it. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 12:03, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to give it a go sometime! Thanks! Akoge Y (talk) 12:15, 23 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
