If you need help with Greek text...

I offer myself (for a trial period) for help where Greek texts are involved. Let me know where and what is needed and I will try to refrain from pressing any buttons before I know what I am doing. Hoverfish (talk) 13:54, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics

Greetings, Did you checked this question? You said here that you are considering to

...leaving this foundation entity to develop content at Wikicommons and WikiSource

. I sincerely hope that is not the case, although wikisource will greatly benefit here from an experienced contributor like you. Let me know if I can be of any help. Cheers. Solomon7968 (talk) 16:18, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

I actually said first said that months ago on the user talk page of another editor, Nishidani. I meant it then and mean it now. John Carter (talk) 16:20, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
Welcome to wikisource then smiley. In case you read my question on your wikipedia talk page, the preferred format used in wikisource is Djvu. If you need help for uploading the work please ask at the Scriptorium. Wikisource will greatly benefit from the Encyclopaedia of Religion and Ethics work as an addition. I've actually been getting together a list of all the older public domain reference works which were still significant enough for inclusion in an admittedly older (1986) Guide to Reference Books I have access to. I don't know which formats are available, however. I'm going to try to start on some of the pages that currently exist (that's a bit easier) on related matters. My own, admittedly probably dubious, opinion, which I first said I think to Nish months ago, is that this site would be one of the better sources for both establishing the notability of various topics, and that it would also be useful to the wikipedia for establishing material on the "History of Study of..." type articles or sections of articles which just about every religion covered at length in the more recent Lindsay Jones/Mircea Eliade Encyclopedia of Religion has. And some other reference sources, like Annals of the American Pulpit, probably contain some of the better reference material for other articles in that field. Also, honestly, despite having been more or less centered on religion there, I myself, like the now-vanished History2007, was and am more interested in basic "history" articles, but, unfortunately, found that the religious history articles were (and still are) at least among the worst and most contentious. Granted, to, um, certain editors who have been primarily interested in POV pushing there, like possibly BruceGrubb and Ignocrates, it is less the real academic view of history that that matters to them than using wikipedia as a soapbox for their own opinions, and I think both History and I started focusing on religion because of editors like that. But for a lot of the really underdeveloped content there, the material here can serve as a good basis for such development, at least in the early stages, and might be among the best ways to make development of content there easier. But, first, I guess I should make myself more familiar with the groundrules here, and I'll probably spend some time doing that first. When that gets done, though, I know the others rules will be probably really scared at the sheer number of sources, beyond the HERE, which I maybe hope to see added here. You might then want to start editing from the Proofread of the Month which is Stabilizing the Dollar for October. Glad to see an experienced contributor like you here. Happy editing. Solomon7968 (talk) 16:59, 24 October 2013 (UTC)
