and a DNBer! Nice[edit]

Gday, welcome to WS, and another person who likes to prod into DNB. We have the Wikisource:WikiProject DNB for those with a specific interest in the 63 volumes of the Dictionary. Feel free to peruse our page, look at the work we have in place, and what we have in store. It is an active project with a great group of people, and we welcome and support all people with that interest. :-) billinghurst sDrewth 13:11, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have worked over the pages you were working on - the diffs should give you some idea of the style. A few pointers are these: author initials at the end go in a template like {{DNB XYZ}} which does the format for you, and links to the author page; article initial names are a combination of standard upper case and things like {{sc|Sir}} for any small caps; we don't bother with indenting paras. Thanks for contributing. Charles Matthews (talk) 14:01, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, it starts making more sense now. Is there a version of {{Illegible}} that doesn't force a newline? The rest is pretty self-explanatory (once you get used to the local peculiarities of this project ;) ).
And thank you both for the welcome. MLauba (talk) 16:08, 8 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For anything you can't read: can just use ????? or <gap> or any other self-explanatory convention, I think. And keep at status pink. You can leave me a note and I'll trouble-shoot by looking up DNB text. (We are not that fussy about 100% proof-reading before article creation, as long as the matter is going to be looked into and cleaned up. Category:DNB Add text exists, but mainly for articles with whole chunks missing, though.) Charles Matthews (talk) 14:40, 9 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have edited Template:Illegible so that it is no longer {{illegible}} with carriage return.— billinghurst sDrewth 12:43, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

With regard to time, you would be better spending it at WS rather than at WP as you will get better value for time spent, and feel that you have done something beneficial. Instead of head butting the corners of brick walls. Come in, proofread a few pages of DNB or PotM or any of my other works (list available on application), and depart refreshed feeling positive. winkbillinghurst sDrewth 12:43, 6 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, just indicating appreciation of the work you are doing at Index:Dictionary of National Biography volume 01.djvu. Jan1naD (talkcontrib) 09:14, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you and allow me to express the same sentiments in return, it's nice to be able to turn all those red into greens. MLauba (talk) 09:43, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, glad to see another volunteer. I'm usually tucked over in the twenty's somewhere, the 'corporate knowledge' folks have already introduced themselves (I handle only easy questions :-). JamAKiska (talk) 20:28, 29 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
