Beginners queries[edit]

@David Nind: Kia ora David, thanks for reviewing my first proof reads on Wikisource :). Some minor issues that I am unclear about that you can hopefully clear up for me:

  • when the original has a full stop after headings, is it normal Wikisource pratice to retain that ?
  • I have got a bit confused in the review of the pages so far, concerning the coding for headings. For example, when the page just has CHARLESTON at the top, I am unclear about whether to leave the default running header code in the Header box, or to delete it and substitute code for the centred CHARLESTON in the body box. Can you clarify ?

Many thanks --Marshelec (talk) 23:41, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Marshelec
  • I would normally leave the full stops in for headings
  • For the running headings, these normally go in the header area - I've been following the guidelines in the book discussion are (from the index page), basically use {{c|CHARLESTON}} without any extra codes for putting in spaces, etc. I'm not sure if I've answered your question or not for this one...
If in doubt, I just follow what's been done to date for the book so that it is consistent, or post a message on the book discussion (talk) page. Great work so far! Feel free to setup an online meeting if you would prefer to discuss that way.

Hi. I have noticed you are discussing the headers in the page namespace. It is true that the header area is not that important, so you needn’t worry about it too much.
As for the work discussed, the headers were already preformatted by somebody on the index page as follows: {{c|{{fine|{{sp| {{#ifexpr: {{{PAGENUM}}} mod 2 | SECTION | CHARLESTON}} }}}}}}. This code only looks dreadful, but in fact it makes adding headers quite easy. You may notice that whenever you start a new page of the book, a similar code as above appears in the header area, only {{{PAGENUM}}} is replaced by a page number. The only thing needed to be done is replacing "SECTION" by the name of the chapter. As a result, name of the chapter will be displayed in the headers of even pages and the word "CHARLESTON" in the headers of odd pages. Only when proofreading a page which does not have any header, delete the code from the header area completely. Thus the whole book will have all the headers consistent.
However, as I said in the beginning, it is not a crucial thing and if you do it otherwise, nothing serious happens. And thanks very much for all the work done! --Jan Kameníček (talk) 21:25, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicated page[edit]

{{helpme}} I have come across a duplicated page, and am not sure how to resolve this. See: Page talk:Charleston • Irwin Faris • (1941).pdf/157. What do I do next ? Marshelec (talk) 06:54, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Done— I have removed the extra page from the source file and corrected the index page. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 08:01, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks so much. That's great.--Marshelec (talk) 08:06, 13 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
